Looks like they finally took WDW's idea of value resorts with families in mind. This will be a huge benefit to USF. It will be tough for alot to choose now.Always WDW for us though.

so is this the clearing that has been under discussion previously - or another site?

It's interesting they are adding family suites... the hip vintage sounds pretty bold and potentially risky. Should be very interesting to see how they price it and what it turns out as.

I'm waiting for someone with much more talent than I to post a map with an outline of where this will be located.

I like the theme idea... I'm wondering if it won't be a little too "old" for the crowd that frequents those parks though. ?? Like, I wonder if the majority will be able to identify with it.

Eh. It's a hotel. I don't think the theme is really the deciding factor on things like this. More the price points, room types, and being on property.

it will be on the large parcal of land off Turkey Lake Rd and Hollywood Way, where they stored the larger set pieces for WWOHP during construction. Rumor has it that this won't be the only announcement this week either sounds like they are ready to talk about the Soundstage 44 plot.

I cant its more of a geography thing than an age thang.

You think? I'm not so sure. It was a HUGE thing here on this side of the pond to take cross country vacations in the family truxter in the 50's and 60's... Less so in the 70's and early 80's... And now it doesn't seem like many at all do it anymore. It feels much more generational to me than a "USA" thing. If you're under 40 here in the states, I'd venture to say it's more likely that you have NOT taken a cross country trip in the family mobile than if you have.

Universal really needed this. It will enable more people to stay on site, which as Disney learned in the 90s means more cash. This is a very important step in the reinvention of Universal Orlando Resort. They're getting ready to make a splash. ;)

Even if you haven't experienced anything like that, I don't think it matters. I think the idea of the whole 50's time period appeals to a lot of people. Even so, like GLaDOS said, it's an on-property hotel. I can't imagine the theme turning people off enough to where they would rather stay off-property.

Good for Universal! However, Universal should take a kinder eye to their existing hotels before building more. Our last visit Memorial Day Weekend showed the Portofino lacking love. The facade was cracked, peeling paint, nail pops showing and faux boats sinking. We stayed at the Hard Rock which was nice but could use an uplift and their club room needs a major refurb and to be made larger. We toured Royal Pacific and decided it looked the best of all three.
