Trip Report Mad dash for Lunch with my Valentine

My first pre-trip report. Previously I wondered what would happen if my trip report turned out dull? I could just skip posting it altogether - but not if I've already announced it with a pre-trip report.

And who wants read a pre-trip report that basically says the same things as the actual trip report, sans details?

Let's stick to the entire pre-trip era LOL.

The set-up: this will be our last planned WDW trip until at least December 2016/more likely January 2017. Caveat: Our Tables in Wonderland card is good through the fall, so we may make a non-park trip, or do a holiday party, or a combo Uni-Dis trip for a few days in 2016.

Our annual passes expire on the 13th of this month, and from the two phone calls I've had with WDW cast members, that means we can go to the parks on the 13th.

We were torn between doing a little extra since we won't be back so soon vs. saving money because...bills and stuff.

We also wanted it to be unrushed, easy, stay at one hotel the whole time, and maybe get an extra night out of the deal.

Almost booked CBR. Almost booked offsite. Almost booked offsite first night or two and then CBR for a couple of nights. Compromise: we booked Pop Century for the first time, for three nights.

Originally this was to be Sunday night through Thursday, but Brian has to be home for work Thursday morning. so we switched it to Sunday day through Wednesday.

We've lately been driving up from Fort Lauderdale late on Sunday nights after Brian works an 18 hour day at a Dolphin's Game. I work Sundays, too, but I don't come close to that level of exhaustion. So I get to drive the whole 3 or so hours myself at night, while he sleeps.

I was hoping for more of a - let's both take Sunday off, wake up when we wake up, try to get out the door by 9 or 10AM, but 11 is fine, and take turns driving without rushing. (And I can work a little when he drives.)

Our AP's are weekday only anyway, so when we get there, we can explore Pop and AoA, and we can go to Disney Springs, but no parks. I kind of liked that idea - again, less rushed, relax a bit, get to really explore Disney Springs with all the new stuff without feeling like I'm missing something at MK. A leisurely pace of strolling, shopping, eating...maybe the hot air balloon thingy?? I've had my eye on that for a few years.

We booked Morimoto for our first dinner. Likely will have lunch at the resort.

Who knows if that will work out to have us waking up early and making our first rope drop? One can hope.

Day one - relaxing day.

Which leaves us scrambling today and yesterday and the day before...

So you know that whole Christmas thing just happened, and we typically take our tree down on Jan 2. Jan 2 was a Saturday, we both worked a lot, and didn't get around to it. In the middle of the night, the tree grew impatient and took itself down.

Now, this is one of those 4 foot trees up on a table. The dog didn't do it. It may have had something to do with the fact that we pretty much put all of the ornaments on the front half LOL - it had been leaning a bit forward, I thought.

This tree has a lot of ornaments we've purchased from Disney trips, other trips, special moments, etc. Not necessarily traditional Christmas ornaments - but for example a Sorcerer Mickey light-up key-chain, a soft Haunted Mansion hitchhiking ghost key-chain (I think), a rainbow Mickey head keychain, a pin from the resort, etc. You get the idea. $5 stuff. It's the memories that count, right? So on our last trip up in early December, I decided in advance I was going to buy a "real Christmas ornament" since it was officially our "real Chrismas Disney trip" and it would be something that would just catch my eye that I thought was great and if it was $20 to $30, so be it. OK, $20 to $22. LOL.

I'm sure I posted a pic of this on my last trip report - it was basically a Santa Mickey hat, covered in red glitter, and with a space to insert one of the tree lights inside. It was like $21.95, less our AP discount, loved the bargain, thought it was cool.

Precisely three ornaments perished in the early morning hours of Jan 3: The Hallmark keepsake "Our First Christmas" Tree ornament with trinkets and lights from 2006 :jawdrop: plus the Chip-N-Dale in Tuxedos ornament that represented our wedding vow renewals just about one year ago (this coming Tuesday)

and of course, the brand new Santa Mickey hat. :arghh:

I thought about glue. I found lots of little puzzle pieces on the floor. I may have been able to reassemble them.

Then I went on ebay. I found the 2006 Hallmark Tree that probably cost me $20 or so back then for $5. I found the Chip-N-Dale that I had gotten on the disneystore site for $5.99 was sold out on disneystore, and $16.99 on ebay. Two down. Could not find the Santa Mickey hat listed anywhere.

Hey, that's OK! We weren't really attached yet! Maybe that was the one that took down the tree LOL.

Seriously, we'll keep an eye out for it on this upcoming trip, but if we don't find it, we'll pick something else, no biggie.

I am a huge sap, however, and saved the broken pieces of those three ornaments. Replacing your first 2006 ornament is one thing, but throwing away the original - too soon!

Anyway, Brian has been marathon working, and I've been slightly less than marathon working, so I managed to set aside a few hours yesterday and today to take everything down, box it up, get it up into the attic, put normal stuff back, clean, etc. We are leaving Kylie (dog) home with the sitter and I don't want my house to look like the back of Sears warehouse.

Natch, Brian checks in with me yesterday and asks, "What time did you want to leave on Sunday?" This was his way of prepping me for the fact that he might have to work Sunday morning if he can't get all his work done on Saturday.

Initially trying to roll with it, I realized that would seriously damage the whole laid back vibe for Sunday. He wouldn't get great sleep Saturday night, he'd be up and out early working, and he'd be even more exhausted than when I usually drive up late Sunday nights. I would drive the whole way, talking to the radio, we'd be rushing again, and probably conking out shortly after dinner. Blah. I would have booked off-site for the first night in that case. Oh, well. My official response was, we'll do whatever we have to do (grumble.)

Found out about 4pm this afternoon, it's all good. He is working at his other job until at least 11pm, but will get a good night's sleep, can pack in the morning, and hopefully we get going at a reasonable hour.

Pre-missing the puppy already in this pre-trip report. Technically she is being left slightly more than usual. Although if we do our normal routine in the morning, she won't realize anything is out of the ordinary until nobody comes home around dinnertime. That's when Trysch the Puppysitter saves the day. Dinner, walk, cuddle. She'll stop back again later at night, then the next morning - it's a twice a day thing.

Now it's just how much do I push myself tonight vs. leave odds and ends for the morning. I have lists. I'd like to go buy powerball tickets LOL. Running out of time for that.

Really haven't planned out much for the trip - packing wayyy too much because of the potential varieties of temperatures. Wayyyy too much. Plus a bottle of Crown Royal. (Stepping up from the Jack last time.) So nice to not have to deal with an airport rules and what not.

Other than Morimoto, we were reading some of the crowd calendars and what not, and decided on HS for Monday, MK for Tuesday, EPCOT for Wednesday with some potential park hop to AK and possibly another EP or MK. (So decisive!)

HS is kind of an all day thing for Monday (probably with a nap in the afternoon) - lunch at Tune-In Lounge (yay!) and dinner for the first time at Sci Fi Dine-In, and I would like to see the Star Wars fireworks, so that will probably keep me there at night. Going to make it a full day park, dammit! LOL. I think I even FP'd the Toy Story thingie.

Tuesday I have nothing booked. Thinking about Flying Fish for dinner just because it's a fave, or the Jungle Navigation Canteen just because it's new (assuming not all booked up, which it may well be.)

Wingin it, Wingin it, Wingin it.

OK powerball ticket, a little packing, and early to bed without thinking too much!!

But trying to remember everything I might forget. (Last time I forgot my TiW card!!)

Got my poncho LOL.

Bummer about the ornaments, but good you were able to replace 2 of them. I love the Chip 'n' Dale ornament!

So jealous of your trip, as I had to postpone mine (long story). But, I'm hoping to go in either June or August, and take my daughter with me.

Please do post lots of pics of Morimoto, as that's definitely on my bucket list now! Flying Fish, too.

I also bought Powerball tix with a couple of co-workers. Here's hoping one of us wins!! :D

Will def take Morimoto pics for ya. FF is not booked yet but a very sentimental fave. Have to find out if our family friend is bartending – if so, may have to do the wine pairings. He goes off script and picks crazy stuff. Should try to get you, us, and buddy to do that one night. And tables in Wonderland covers up to 10 people LOL!

Have a wonderful trip! And I agree with Catmom46--I'd also love to see pix of the new Morimoto, if you get a chance, too. Lastly, I think it's more than fine to just wing it--just see what you want to see on the spur of the moment. That's how I usually go around WDW. P.S.: Love the picture of your dog--she's so cute! (Is she a Chow mix--I was looking at the color of her tongue and wondering. My dog has some Chow in him and he has a few of those tongue spots.)
