Episode 10 Project Veto Challenge
Liberty Lore

Contestants, welcome to your final project veto challenge!

libertysquare.jpg

For this challenge, our five remaining castaways must design a new attraction for Liberty Square. You must base your attraction off of a story or folktale that can be found deep throughout America's history. It can be anywhere in the area and can be anything that you desire! The rest is up to you!

Episode 10 Project Veto Challenge is due Friday, April 1st at 6:30 PM EST. You may use no more than 10 sentences and 1 picture. You will turn your concepts in to your designated Project Veto PM.

A Tangled Tale
This E-Ticket dark ride will fill a void in the park left by Snow White's Scary Adventures. Scenes 2-4 will all be absolutely massive, each being the size of the Neverland flyover from Peter Pan's Flight. It will be the main draw of the Adventureland expansion. Instead of waiting in line for this attraction, guests will be given a pager, which will allow them to explore Pascal's Park.

Scene 1
In the first scene you see a AA of Flynn Rider and his horse from the beginning of Tangled. Flynn says, "Come on, lets gooooo!" and then disappears behind some bushes. Your ride vehicle then takes a dip down into the next scene, now underground.

Scene 2
This is a very small scene, however, it is one of the most impressive in the attraction. Since there will be no tower outside, it will be in the attraction, to the same scale as the one in Fantasyland. You can here When Will My Life Begin coming from the windows as you circle the tower.

Screen-Shot-2013-03-09-at-2.43.47-PM.png

Scene 3
After bushes move aside for your car to go through, you enter the Snuggly Duckling. Here, the patrons sing I Have a Dream all day long. After a loop around the pub, you exit through the secret passage Rapunzel and Flynn used in the film. In the dark tunnel your car ascends upward, back to ground elevation

Scene 4
The final scene of the ride takes you to see the light. This scene is one of the most beautiful things ever made in a Disney Park. It has lanterns that appear to be floating over glistening water, and an enormous castle in the background. On a boat in the middle of the scene is Rapunzel and Flynn singing "I See the Light".

The Snuggly Duckling
This pub will be just like in the film, and will be one of the most highly themed restaurants in the world. Every detail will be an exact recreation from the film. It will be a table service restaurant that sells german food like Wiener Schnitzel and Bratwurst. For the kids there is Tangled themed American food, like Pascal's Mac and Cheese and Rapunzel's PB&J, but they can also get smaller portions of food from the regular menu.

Pascal's Park

Pascal's Park will have 2 interactive playgrounds, an chameleon exhibit, a restaurant, as well as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider meeting guests. One playground is themed to a castle, and even has a moat going around it. The other is like a forest, and near it is the chameleon exhibit, which will let you learn about chameleons, and see some too. Pascal's Palette will be a small food stand with food from The Snuggly Duckling. Rapunzel and Flynn will not have normal meet and greets, but will instead explore the park with the guests.

In this challenge, we were asked to design a new expansion for Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. Here is The Island of Legends

TSI Robinson Crusoe.jpg

This new island will be an expansion of a waterway (represented by the brown in the map) connecting the 7 Seas Lagoon to the bay. This new artificial island (represented by the orange in the map)will be accessible by boat (red and yellow), and will be themed to a island of literary characters.

treasure_island_book_cover_lois_rhead_frank_e_schoonover.jpg

The entire island is available to explore, but for a kid-friendly playground, Captain Silver's Trove (white) will be a children's play area themed around the site of burried gold from the classic Treasure Island novel. To the left is Jim's Ol' Shoppe and Seaside Cove (purple and black) will be a shop and sit in restaurant to top of the Treasure Island side of the island.

5617152124_52d7c4ae3c_z.jpg

On the right side of the island is the Robinson Crusoe side. The two attractions here are themed to the literary classic.The first of two attractions will be a new stunt show entitled Battle of the Island, which will see Robinson fight off vicious savages with the help of his friends to survive on the island and protect his home. The second attraction will be an absolutely humongous trackless ride using EMV vehicles themed to the untold story of Robinson's encounter with Long John Smith's band of pirates who are after after a secret treasure on the island.

Queue

The queue is themed to an underground cove, where a ship is docked. As guests enter the ship, they come across the point at which they enter the EMV vehicles, each themed to a lifeboat with makeshift wheels on the bottom.

Scene 1

As the vehicle leaves the boat onto the island, you follow Silver, Hawkins, and the pirate gang onto the island. As you enter the next scene, you see eyes in the bushes.

Scene 2

As you venture on with the pirates, Hawkins reports back to Silver claiming there is a hut down the beach. The purates continue down the beach.

Scene 3

The pirates approach the hut, but are stopped when Robinson Crusoe and his frineds begin to attack with guns. Crusoe has gone senile and thinks that you are there for him

Scene 4

As the battle continues, Crusoe is captured and brought into the jungle, where the mpa leads Silver

Scene 5

When the treasure is discovered, it is revealed that it was a trap set by the Spanish armada, as they also astart to attck. Crusoe and the pirates team up to defend themselves

Scene 6

Crusoe is given the chance to become a pirate, but refuses and stays on the island, which he calls his home.

This was a very fun challenge for me, and I hoped you all enjoyed!!!!!

TheOriginalTiki Presents:
Ratatopia: Bridging Together Disney's Animal Universe

For this project, I was forced by fellow Know-It-All @IDInstitute to design a mini-land based on the Disney/Pixar modern classic "Ratatouille". Normally this would be a fun prospect, but the big hitch is the fact that the land has to be within Adventureland. Obviously with Ratatouille being set in Paris, this presented some problems.

The saving grace of my brainstorming process was the recently released smash hit "Zootopia", which is bound to go down as another modern classic in the same vein as Frozen and Tangled. The unique thing about Zootopia is that it brings all of Disney's sensibilities about antrophamorphic animals together into one movie. This is where the inspiration for Ratatopia comes into play. Join me, shall you? As I present one of the most unique lands in Disney history that ties together Disney's entire Animal Kingdom!

Backstory:

Shipwrecked! Linguini and Collette have become world famous chefs after opening La Ratatouille and their hole in the wall cafe becoming the most well reviewed restaurant in all of Paris. On an excursion to New York City to participate in an international culinary festival, Linguini and Collette are stranded on the shores of an unknown jungle of Africa.

Joining the two on their trip is Remmy and his entire rat family. Also stowed away on board is Skinner who is plotting revenge. Anton Ego also joined the couple to participate as a head judge in the festival's main competition. All bets are off now as the characters all band together for survival.

What they find is a treehouse that seems to have been fashioned out of another shipwreck. This treehouse belonged to the parents of Tarzan, king of the jungle..Who may or may not be the brother of Ana and Elsa ;)

This is the basis for Ratatopia's overall story. Disney LOVES shared universes. They created the style with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there's a whole galaxy worth of crossover stories they could explore with the Star Wars saga. This land will be a stepping stone in joining together their current animated films into one cohesive shared world.

Disney parks have always been known for having small details that tie lands together. Ratatopia will be a shining example of this. Located in the depths of Adventureland's jungles will be a brand new mini-land brimming with imagination.

Have a dining adventure at Remmy and Linguini's new restaurant that blends the flavors of Paris and Africa. Climb through a rat's perspective of "Little Paris" in a play area that connects to Zootopia. Hold on tight on a rat trap themed spinning wild mouse designed by Skinner. Marvel at an E Ticket that ties Ratatouille, Zootopia, Robin Hood, The Lion King, and other famous Disney animals together in a trackless, three story dark ride that's one of the most ambitious in Imagineering history.

General Layout

Ratatopia is arranged like a courtyard. The waterways around the treehouse will be rerouted, and the E ticket dark ride will be constructed in a show building behind the birm. To tie the backstory together, the Swiss Family Treehouse will become Tarzan's Treehouse and will serve as a larger and more elaborate version of Disneyland's counterpoint. Several relics of Swiss Family will remain such as the functioning water well system and the Swiss Polka serving as part of the music loop.

The treehouse serves as an entry point to Ratatopia. Large palm and bamboo trees loom over us as we make our way into the courtyard. Our eyes are drawn to the Eiffel tower on the left, but as we get closer we can see it's a recreation made entirely out of toothpicks!

hqdefault.jpg

The double decker "Antropha-Merry-Go-Round" will be housed in a large bamboo structure in the center of the courtyard. Off to the right will be an African division of the Gusteau's franchise which is having its grand opening. Gusteau's serves as the entry point for the main dark ride.

Along the back corner of the courtyard will be Skinner's Rat Trap, a spinning wild mouse family coaster. On the left will be "Little France", a children's play area from a rat's point of view.

Near Little France is the area's main shopping and dining. La Ratatouille: A Taste of the Jungle offers a thrilling culinary blend. Colette's Boutique is the place to stock up on the latest fashions. Finally, a gift shop connected to Gusteau's offers all the items needed to stock the kitchen, along with a cavalcade of Ratatouille and Zootopia themed merchandise. Because Anyone Can Cook!

Ratatouille: Adventures Beyond the Kitchen

rat5.gif

The five star signature sign of Gusteau's shines brightly above the courtyard. Sharp eyed guests can also notice the famed chef giving winks and nods every so often as they pass by. This is the entrance to one of most exciting dark rides ever created. Guests pass outside in the gardens and fountains of the overflow queue before making their way inside.

The waiting room serves as the Fastpass transitioning point. The queue then winds through three main dining rooms before entering the kitchen. The kitchen features a large scale forced perspective trick that makes everything gradually get larger and larger as we reach the "sink" which actually serves as the main loading platform. By the time were there, blocks of knifes and stacks of vegetables are larger than life and we have truly transitioned to the perspective of a rat.

photo2copie.jpg~original

The trackless vehicles will be virtually identical to the ones used in the Ratatouille dark ride in Disneyland Paris.

Heading down the drain of the kitchen sink, we are immediately swept away into the sewer system where Crush tells us to "Grab Shell!" as we cascade down the waterways of Ratatopia and out into the surrounding jungles!

At this point it's worth noting that the attraction will use a combination of screens, projections, and physical sets/AAs.

We see Sabour the leopard spring down and attack us as Tarzan also swoops in and engages in a fight. Following a heard of migrating gorillas from Tarzan, we see the ruins of King Louie's Palace in the distance. Entering the ruins we are treated to a large show room where the vehicles come together and spin around a stage as a high tech AA of King Louie sings the classic "I Wanna Be Like You".

tumblr_nwldgvIABX1s589lho1_500.gif

We hear a loud bang in the distance, and suddenly the wildebeasts from The Lion King come stampeding through the temples as we are treated to a wild scene of all the monkeys and gorillas scurrying around.

The elephant brigade from Jungle Book meets up on the outskirts of Lion King's elephant graveyard with Pride Rock in the distance. A group of rats watches on as Simba consults the council over the different realms of the Disney animal kingdom coming together.

We hear horns off in the distance and transition into a medevil array of tents where the tournament from Robin Hood is taking place. Several famous Disney animals join in along with the familiar Robin Hood characters, including Baloo, Timon and Pumba, and the dancing hippo from Dance of the Hours.

The tournament is interrupted by another loud band as a large bird flies overhead and crashes to the ground (via a projection effect) Upon inspecting the scene we find ourselves within Little Paris which is the rat constructed city that exists as a suburb of Zootopia. The bird is actually Flick's bird from Bug's Life. Several ants come scurrying out.

It is here where we get the coolest perspective moment of the ride. The larger buildings of Zootopia loom overhead in the background, while the smaller buildings of Little Paris along with the toothpick Eiffel Tower are closer to our rat's eye perspective (which can shift from scene to scene depending on the practicality...)

Skinner shows up towering over the Little Paris building wielding an old fashion hunting rifle similar to the one wielded by the old woman at the start of the film. We see a whole colony of 6 inch tall ant AAs scurry away and dozens of rats panicking as Skinner looms overhead.

We hear the screech of an eagle as Marahute from Rescuers Down Under swoops down and grabs Skinner by the shoulders.

Rescuers-down-under-disneyscreencaps_com-735.jpg

"Noooo!!!", Skinner years as he is carried off. "The rats, they're getting away!"

A single feather falls down off the eagle as we come to the unload which is the back alley of Gusteau's. Scuttle from Little Mermaid and Orville the Albatross are cracking wise at us as we exit the ride and proceed into Gusteau's gift shop connected to the exit.

Adventures Beyond the Kitchen is certainly an ambitious project. I left the storyline purposefully vague and instead of concentrating on a large scale arc tying everything together I simply had fun with the idea of different Disney characters bouncing off of each other. Basically Skinner hunting down Remmy causes all the other animals to panic resulting in all the characters crossing paths with each other.

The attraction will be housed in a three story show building to save space. The opening descant down the drain will go under the rail road tracks and behind the berm. As mentioned, a combination of screens, projections, and AAs will make for a completely all encompassing experience. In spite of the ride vehicles being themed to mice, that doesn't completely limit the perspective.

One of the unique things about the Little Paris play area is the fact that it's recreated inside the E tciket attraction. I took this cue from Radiator Springs Racers which features a recreation of the main town. The toothpick Eifel Tower will serve as the main tower and centerpoint to the playground, with various articles of "garbage" acting as surrounding theme and play structures. Just beyond that lies Colette's Fashion Boutique and La Ratatouille.

La Ratatouille combines classic French cuisine with an African twist and flair. Think of the menu as Boma and the dining options in the France world showcase pavilion in a blender. While Gusteau's is themed as a tasteful continuation of the franchise and houses the e ticket, this real eatery is themed as a partnership between Linguini and Anton Ego. Guests can often get meet and greets and book signings with the renowned food critic and his head chef.

Skinner's Rat Trap is themed around a giant block of Swiss cheese with various different death traps waiting inside. The track is a fairly standard spinning wild mouse in the same vein as Primeval Whirl. Guests can smell the cheese as the whirl through the ride and avoid Skinner's obstacles such as nets, flying knifes, and springing mouse traps. This will make a generally off-the-shelf ride stand out a lot more.

Finally in the center of the courtyard is the double decker Antropha-Merry-Go-Round. This large scale carousel features a HUGE collection of different Disney animals. Some examples are...

-Bambi
-Dumbo
-Dancing Hippo
-Lucifer
-Tramp
-Pongo and Perdita
-Baloo
-Thomas O'Malley
-Scuttle
-Simba
-Chief Bogo
-Maximus
-Kenai
-Cyrill
-Louie the Gator
And many, MANY more!

As you walk around the cobblestone lined courtyard and take in the light Parisian music and the blend of cultures within the architecture, Ratatopia promises a very peaceful and serene land experience surrounding the excitement of the coaster and E tickets. It is the ultimate Imagineering project that blends together the entire Disney universe. Anyone can cook, indeed!

Challenge 10:

The year is 2018. Pandora is finally open in Animal Kingdom to rave reviews, as well as Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios. Star Wars land is set to open up in 2019 without a hitch, and Shanghai didn't end up being as big of a disaster as it could have been. With all of the other three parks getting new attractions since 2016, it is only right to give Magic Kingdom, the crown jewel of Walt Disney World, some new attractions as well.

The Legend of Tarzan, the WB movie that came out in 2016 is finally out of public view after flopping, and Disney has decided to put their feet in the water of this franchise. With the live action remake being released in 2020, and there being an open expansion plot in Adventureland, the scholars who work high up in Disney connected the dots and decided to add a Tarzan mini land to Adventureland. Synergy, right?

As you can tell from the attached map, this area will take up the plot behind Tarzan's Treehouse (more on that later) and Main Street USA. Also with this location, there will be no need to reroute Jungle Cruise, as everything will fit in the green plot.

Tarzan's Treehouse will be a re skin of The Swiss Family Treehouse, using Disneyland's version as a model to follow. The entrance and queue will be flipped to the other side of the river to fit in the new land, and the entrance right now will be remodel. This will also serve as an interactive play area, as there will be new elements added for all ages to interact with.

Tarzan's_Treehouse_Entrance_Sign.JPG

Tarzan: Pride of the Jungle is a state of the art inverted coaster/dark ride hybrid. There were rumors a long time ago about a potential Tarzan inverted coaster in AK, and whether that was ever close to fruition or not, it is too good of an idea not to implement in some way. And for reference, the AA's in the ride will be based on the iterations from the live action version that will be made.

This attraction will not be a "book report" of the movie, it will be a new adventure. The ride starts with a roller coaster section out of the gate, using mini dips in the track and minor EMV tech to simulate swinging on a vine like Tarzan himself! You will also go through dark ride scenes where you see favorite characters from the movie in a new adventure. There will be a climatic coaster section at the end where you escape a tiger that hasn't eaten for a couple days. This attraction will bring much needed thrill to Adventureland, and be the first inverted coaster in all of Walt Disney World.

Terk's Trinkets will be a gift shop located at the end of the ride that features many different Tarzan branded items as well as traditional African gifts.

Lastly, Jane's Soup Kitchen will serve, wait for it, soup. This quick service restaurant will serve exclusive soups and sandwiches not found anywhere else on property, making this a must stop on your trip to Adventureland.

In 2021, when this new addition is open for guests, it will make Magic Kingdom perfect, giving it a large scale thrill that it has lacked since inception, a new play area, an eatery, a shop, and most importantly, A HIGHER CAPACITY!

@IDInstitute's Submission- Volcano Cove

This challenge required us to create an expansion to the Magic Kingdom's Adventureland. It is a classic, very nostalgic, and well themed land all around, however it is getting "old", if you will, and could seriously use a refresh with something new, imaginative, and overall exciting. Featuring one e-ticket, an interactive play area, and a restaurant and shop, Adventureland's new subland Volcano Cove will be a new immersive experience like no other, with the story being told throughout the land like no other, including with MM+ incorporation. But for you to truly feel the immersion and theme yourself, join me in skipping ahead 5 years to the 2021 opening, and use your adventurous and imaginative side to put yourself in the story...

~~~
Magic Kingdom Park, 9:05 AM
It's been nearly a decade since I've last been to Walt Disney World. And man, I remember how much I love it. I have always had such fond memories of walking through the parks, smelling the popcorn and sweets down Main Street, taking in the beautiful atmosphere created by the attractions and theme music, and even just appreciating the architecture all around- it all creates a special kind of experience that no one can replicate. Man, it's been too long. And boy am I loving every second of this vacation.
Right now my family members are all sleeping in back at the hotel, and later today they plan on joining me here in the Magic Kingdom for the day. But I just couldn't wait, I wanted to come early and reminisce. Honestly I don't even care to go on any rides or anything, just kinda wander around, explore, and see what's new and what's the same. The entrance to Adventureland is coming up on the left... I've always loved this land the most for its uniqueness and classic nostaligic flair it has, I'll go explore there!
Suddenly the your phone buzzes. You have gotten a notification from the newly and majorly enhanced MyDisneyExperience App, and you open it to see what's going on.
Ahoy matey! Welcome to Adventureland!
This territory you are about to enter has lots of secrets and wonders, so tread carefully
You may not quite yet know what you are getting into, but if you are daring enough, keep reading
This land has something new that none of us were reading for, but are now excited to learn more
By the bay of the volcano has something special and unexpected
Though access is dangerous, and if you can find the map by the rustic gates, you could be all set
Good luck my friend, and get ready for the adventure of your life!
Well that's kind of neat! It seems to be a whole new experience...almost like I'm living the adventure. I remember being a young child and having my own youthful imaginative stories created, but to actually be able to be in a "real life" adventure here is kind of cool. You know what, let's go on this adventure, let's see what's new! The adventure-themed scroll that just appeared on the map said to look for adventure and clues to treasure near the rustic gates...Could that mean over by the Pirates section of Adventureland?
As you reach the pirates region of Adventurland, near the entrance to the new subland Volcano Bay (which is located behind the Pirates area in the expansion pad with entry to the southwest of the current land), the app alerts you again. This time, rather than a new message, you are given a very treasuremap-looking map of the new experience. It is very artsy and depicts the huge Volcano facade, the shacks by the bay of the volcano, and the lava rocks and pits area.
Man, this is incredible. I didn't even freaking notice the huge volcano until passing through the gates, this grand reveal is amazing! And this new area, there's just so much to it as the map shows. There's the giant e-ticket, a play area, merch,...ok, forget just wanderng the park and chilling out, I gotta go explore this land and have an adventure! And there's still that enticing thing about the treasure to find in this complex area...I wonder what that could mean...
Magic Kingdom Park, 10:00
Ok, I just had the most incredible e-ticket ride experience. The Volcano Gems ride is truly unlike anything I've ever been on. The thrills were awesome, as it tells the gripping and intense story of venturing into an unstable volcano in search for treasure, but when one member of the expedition crew sneaks off the vehicle to disrupt the volcano in attempt to trap us in there, doomed to be melted inside the mountain so that only he could get the treasure, it is an intense escape with this sneaky man eventually getting destroyed by the overwhelming magic and spirits of the volcano. What I loved most about it is that it combined some really cool LED and screen lava effects with many practical effects and large show scenes/sets/ It reminded me of classic enjoyment. In addition, the ride vehicle tech was pretty sweet. It's like a mix of Big Thunder Mountain and the EMV tech I rode on DINOSAUR over at DAK the other day. It even featured a backwards section!
One of the most cool parts was how, despite such a long line for this popular attraction, it felt like nothing. The Lava Rocks interactive play area actually intertwines with the queue. This whole play area lets you jump from rock to rock and climb through different sets, nets, ropes, and other adventurous things. Of course, you didn't have to take this queue route, but it made it so much more fun and really set up the whole feeling of true adventure rather than just standing in line on my phone.
Magic Kingdom Park, 10:30
Text Conversation with Jess:
Hey, we're in the park. We're heading over to Tomorrowland.
The kids wanna go on space mountain really badly, so let's do it
Meet us over here soon, it's the best ride in the park I hear
Later we can grab some food at the new Galactic Blast Cafe
Hey!
I'm over in Adventureland now actually
Yeah I've heard spacemt is great, but trust me that's not
the best this park has to offer anymore
Adventureland is new and there's so much going on
I've spent my whole morning here, I'm just so immersed and
invested in the story and attractions, it's amazing
I already ate btw at Lost Delights here, they have some of the
best pastries in the whole park.
Plus I got the kids a great birthday gift souvenir at the adjacent
merch shop...It's a golden volcano with shining gems!
Alright, cool!
Honestly, this park is really magical for the 50th...
I'm excited to do it all!!!!
Home, 2 weeks later
So it's been a bit of time since I got home, and I've been going through some of the keepsakes I got just to enjoy some of the memories. It's sad we're gone, but the fun we had SO made up for it!!
And man, I did it all, and I can't stress enough how much Volcano Bay was the coolest part of the experience. I never did figure out what the whole treasure thing was about though...I guess I never found it.
Home, 1 more week later
I got this really cool thing in the mail today! After all Disney trips I hear they send some sort of piece of art as a free souvenir, but I got something special...It was a really cool thematic scroll that read...
Aye, matey!
Thanks for your help in exploring volcano bay with us! And guess what we found? The treasure!
Here's a picture of the riches:
We hope you enjoyed your adventure, we can't wait for you to come back!
The kids loved it, it was really something special. I can't wait to return!!!
