This seems to be a more recent change, nothing too big, but still neat. The tengu (creature from Japanese folklore) which was formerly part of "Spirited Beast" exhibit in the Bijutsu-kan gallery of the Japan pavilion was moved out of said gallery for the newest exhibit, "Kawaii", which debuted around late 2015.
The tengu now hides within the forest next to the Katsura Grill.
A friend and I were eating on the large wooden table right before the lower patio full of umbrella tables when the tengu took us by surprise. It's nice to see the tengu hidden away in the forest like that, it's a small surprise for people that aren't looking for it. It also fits thematically with the pavilion as tengu were said to reside within forests.
