Hey everyone!

So I originally had an idea to include a new section called "This week in wdwmagic imagineering history" in the weekly newsletters. But after talking with a few of the members on here, I think it would be fun for it to be its own thread, where we can relive and celebrate the anniversaries of past projects, threads, and so on, that have made this place memorable.

It also allows anyone else who wants to share the opportunity to do so. @RMichael21 already expressed interest in doing that, so next week he will post the weekly "Throwback Thursday" topic.

With that said, let's jump right into our first installment!:)

For the first installment of TAFI Throwback Thursdays, we are traveling back one year ago to October 27, 2014, to celebrate two great projects, but one project in particular that went above and beyond, in one of the best competitions the boards have seen.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Season 2 - International Edition
sas2logo-jpg.56909
The challenge pit the final four imagineers left in the competition against each other to create the next class of Disney Cruise Line ships
Challenge 11: The Final Four Disney Cruise Ships? I Think Not...
Four contestants remain. This time around you must compete to design a mode of international transportation; no, not planes, trains, or automobiles, but cruise ships! Each team is required to design the next class of Disney Cruise Line ships...take them to the next level. The class would hypothetically include two ships, but you only need to go into detail about one, because they would be exact replicas. You should bump it up a notch, knocking DCL into the international spotlight as the premiere cruising service, with the biggest, best ships. You should include write-ups for each major restaurant venue, merchandise location, or other recreation areas that at are at your discretion to include (theaters, pools, clubs, sports, etc.). Both teams should try and keep the style consistent with all current DCL ships, but I have a feeling we'll come out of this with two very different ocean liners.

This weeks Project Managers are;

Land
@Zweiland
Sea
@MonorailRed

There is no holder of the immunity idol this week.

This week, as usual, @LittleGiants16, @BryceM, @Matt7187 and @Sam4D23 will all be acting as advisers this week, like Trump's children and associates on the show.

Please provide at least 5 photos and at most 15, in order to display your new land. You are required to have a musical selection posted from YouTube to be played while reading your submission. Everyone may communicate amongst your teams in the PM that I will create and that I will watch over. Ask me any questions there. Due date is Saturday, October 18th, at 5 PM EST. Vacation Days may still be used (this is the last time you will be able to). After you post your ideas please do not get into personal conflicts with the other team about concepts, or actions of punishment will take place.

Good Luck! :)

On October 27, 2014 - Tea Sea ( @MonorailRed and @Voxel ) posted their proposal...

The Disney Wish and Disney Color Playlist

The Disney Wish and the Disney Color

The Disney Wish and the Disney Color are two new cruises that join the Disney Cruise Line Fleet in 2018. These cruises are the most sophisticated in design and spectacular in entertainment on the Disney Cruise Line to date!

Though sister ships, just like any sister ships on the Disney Cruise Fleets, the Disney Wish and Disney Color both share serious similarities and design differences that really bump the cruise line up to the next level.

The Disney Wish's main theme takes inspiration from the 1920's and 1930's. The main lobby features a bronze cast statue of the original, classic form Donald Duck. They also feature a few different clubs and restaurants, similar to the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

Heritage+Donald.jpg

The Disney Color, however, takes inspiration from the 1960's and 1970's. The main lobby is filled with bright colors and features a bronze cast statue of Kirk Douglas from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

20-000-Lieues-Sous-les-Mers-Image-5.jpg

Entertainment
Similar to Disney Cruise ships of Disney Cruise Line's past, the Disney Wish and the Disney Color feature holiday events and the Pirates in the Caribbean party.

However, The Disney Wish and Disney Color have elevated the expectations of nights on the high seas by including FantaSEA: On the Disney Wish and FantaSEA: on the Disney Color. These Projection Night Shows will appear in the lobby and the top of the cruise ship.

*** The difference from the Disney Wish and Disney Color's FantasSEA is the beginning. Disney Wish Features a Snow White/Princess beginning, while The Disney Color features Ludwig Von Drake singing "The Color Song" in the beginning, then transitioning to the Ariel scene. ****

Celebration Class

Disney-Cruise-Line-Logo.jpg

This challenge was very extensive in scope, so it was necessary to go into detail. Team Land created a website to showcase our new Disney Cruise Line ships: the Disney Celebration and the Disney Discovery, which belong to the Celebration Class. The website helps promote the new class, but also is informative and goes into detail about the specifications and offerings.

The site offers 18 custom Disney Cruise Radio announcements describing their respective decks, and a song to go along with each one.

Enjoy our submission!

CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE SITE.

While Team Sea put up an excellent project, they were up against some stiff competition. With one of the most elaborate and detailed website designs ever seen for a project on here (http://63.135.165.8/dcl/), Team Land won and advanced to the finals!

This was probably one of the best challenges quality wise I've seen on here. And it definitely should be celebrated for it's one-year anniversary this past Tuesday!

Feel free to comment and talk about it below, and tune in next week for another installment of TAFI Throwback Thursdays!

This week...we are going all the way back to 2001! For reference as to how long ago that was...here was a popular cell phone

2001_Cellphone.gif

We are traveling back to the beginning of November 2001...when Monsters Inc first came out in theaters. The armchair imagineers on wdwmagic started a thread discussing the possibility of a Monsters Inc Door Coaster...way back then.

The armchair imagineers were way ahead of their time as for the last decade, a door coaster has been rumors and desired by many Disney fans.

Here's a throwback look at the thread!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/monster-inc-roller-coaster.2521/

Thanks everyone. Hope you enjoy this blast from the past and see you again next week!

Happy Thursday! This week, we are traveling back to November 2012...for the first season (and first challenge) of the famous wdwmagic imagineering competition, Master of the Parks! The competition was hosted by TAFI Imagineering Hall of Fame member @BryceM and as we go through it you'll recognize a few other familiar faces as well!

(I also like and appreciated how I'm quoted in the logo:p:D)

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...hallenge-1-beauty-the-beast-dark-ride.855482/

The first challenge was to design a Beauty and the Beast dark ride for New Fantasyland. (this challenge coincided with the opening of New Fantasyland...wow that was 3 years ago:cyclops:)
Challenge 1: New Beauty and the Beast Ride.

With the opening of the new Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, a lot of fans feel like there could have been more added... That's where you come in handy. And the Beauty and the Beast section of Fantasyland is truly beautiful, but it would be even greater if a ride was added.

Plus, the characters and story of Beauty and the Beast has never been integrated into a ride before, and this is the perfect place to do it.

Location

It is required that this ride goes in the new Fantasyland area of Magic Kingdom, with the rest of the Beauty and the Beast restaurants and shops.

Requirements

- Facade
- Specific location
- Technology for the ride
- Queue
- Ride experience
- Gift shop

This is the first challenge and what all 11 competitors were sent. Here is where you will post your proposals and where the judging will take place.

Side note: It doesn't have to be a "dark-ride". I don't know why I even typed that in the title... Hahaha.

Competitors have until November 15th to post.

Among the contestants was newly inducted TAFI Imagineering Hall of Fame member @Matt7187 who was the first to submit, and as seen later on if you re-read the thread, got 4th place without ever seeing the film!

THE LEGEND OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Facade: the facade is beasts castle (which is where be our guest is located and the queue for this ride) Here is a picture of the facade:
299D1445-0607-491B-AC6E-B306BFB8CD74-2145-0000069A423BEE04_zpsace9c887.jpg

Specific location: In the blank area to the northwest of beasts castle. Here is a picture of the area:
49302003-3EB2-4A35-B0F6-5ECB336AD055-2181-0000069E0E7D7D01_zpsbc4314e2.jpg

Technology for the ride: Omnimover like the little mermaid and the haunted mansion.

Queue: You enter near the entrance of be our guest and turn into a dark tunnel where you walk through it and other secret areas of the castle until you get to the entrance of the "teacups" that you ride in.

Ride experience: You enter the ride through a set of doors that leads you to the scene where the "old lady" turns the prince into the beast. During the scene, a tornado of lights and stuff like that surrounds the prince and you exit into the next scene. There you enter a bustling village where in the center you see belle singing a song, and all around there are villagers and you see gaston surrounded by many beautiful women staring at belle thinking aloud about how much he loves her although she isnt interested. In the next scene, you see belle's horse telling her that maurice (her dad) has been kidnapped by the beast. The next scene shows Belle taking maurice's place as a hostage. Then the be our guest scene happens, and it is very similar to the under the sea scene from the little mermaid. The next scene shows belle looking at the rose and the beast finding her and kicking her out. Then the beast rescuse her from the wolves in the forest. Then, the dance scene is shown. Then you see that belle and maurice escape the woods. Then in the next scene you see gaston in the tavern arousing the townsfolk that they should go kill the beast. Then you see the epic battle that occurs at the castle and the beast get stabbed. Then in the next scene, you see belle tell the beast that she loves him, and then the tornado surrounds the beast again while you see the rose with one pedal left about to fall off. Then, in the finale, you see belle and beast with their arms around each other and all of the other servents in human form, and they say goodbye to you personally using next gen tech. Then you get off the ride.

Gift shop: the ride leads into Belle's Enchanted Gifts, which sells everything beauty and the beast.

PS: all of the characters are in AA form
Here is my idea and cant wait to see everyone elses! Good luck!

In 3rd place was @ctxak98 (a Hall of Fame nominee) and in 2nd place was @jdmdisney99 (Hall of Fame Class of 2014)

Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Enchanted Journey
The ride will be placed where the current Bathrooms in Belle's village is. The queue will start out in the village bookstore and wind yourself all the way through numerous shops in the village(not used already in the village)

This ride will be a dark ride that Takes place of "Enchanted Tales with Belle" but does not replace it. Enchanted tales with belle will strictly become a Meet and Greet with Belle and the Maurice! The ride will include a story like theme , hence taking away story time with Belle

The ride system will be the same system used in Pooh Honey Hunt in Disneyland Tokyo.

QUEUE: The line goes through the book store, and the bakery and wind out into the woods. The line also has a new sightline of the far off Beasts castle from the back. As you approach the castle the woods get a little denser and little more foreboding. You soon come to a cave that enters the castle. This castle leads you to the ride loading area. the load area is inside the castle dungeon where Lumiere and Cogsworth are waiting for you.

The ride: The ride vehicle is an assortment of different inventions made by Maurice. The ride starts out in the dungeon but takes you through to the library where Cogsworth and Lumiere are waiting to tell you a story. What starts out as a simple story in the Library turns into a magical journey through belle's adventure. Cogsworth is ofcourse against the idea but Lumiere insists and the blinds close in the library leaving only his candlelight and then he blows out his candles and you are zoomed through the darkness till you find yourself in the middle of Belles village passing every which way.You never know where your going to go as every ride is a different experience. The next scene is going through the dark forest with the wolves, bats and thunderstorms. Once you reach the castle your find your way through the dark Hallways as the enchanted pictures tell you the story of the Enchanted Rose and how the Beast became the Beast. The next scene is Belle and Beast together on the Balcony and showing maurice sick. The next scene shows gaston and his recruits fighting the enchanted objects. (this would be a crazy scene as there are MANY different things going on. The last scene includes the fall of Gaston and the transformation of the castle before your eyes. And the ending is the look into the ballroom with belle and beast dancing and you fade away from that and end up back in the library with Lumiere and Cogsworth.

I didnt want the ride to Be an exact copy of the movie and I know some people will find it weird that we enter the village and the castle when there already is a village and castle but this time Its a story representation with AA figures and special effects to make you enter the story. Much like RSR does when you enter the town of radiator springs.

Well I hope you like my Idea and when I get the chance later I will send in my concept drawing of queue and ride layout

Tale As Old As Time: Belle's Journey
Specific Location:
This ride, such as others, is located where the bathrooms are (see below). However, the bathrooms will not be removed. You will go under another arch that leads the the forest outside of the village.

Facade: The facade of "Belle's Journey" will be similar to the beginning of the movie:

At a certain angle, with Beast's castle looming in the distance on top of Be Our Guest, you could find the same view as the one in the beginning. It would be a continuation of the mountains of Be Our Guest, travelling behind the village. A trickling waterfall would cascade down the mountainside in a thickly wooded area.
Technology
"Tale As Old As Time" would use the same LPS dark ride guide system as Pooh's Hunny Hunt. Guests would ride in "roses" (see pictures below) along a trackless landscape.
Queue
You would enter the queue through an entrance cavern in the fantastic rockwork. Above the entrance would be a whimsical scroll (see top picture) with the name of the attraction, and the Beast's coat of arms. Noiw inside, the queue would swerve through the dark, deep caves all while playing games with small, abandoned enchanted objects. Eventually, the line would come to the load area (see below), where 5 glass mosaics would be fitted into the stone behind the "track".

Ride Experience
After boarding your "rose", you seem to exit out of the same cave you came in through. You continue back into the village as the citizens start to sing. You pass by when everyone is in their prime during "Belle" and Gaston is wooing the women. You go under an archway and find yourself in the forest, outside Belle's cottage. Belle is trying to translate Phillipe's grumbling's, "Father...a castle, you say...the dungeon?" The night falls as you travel deeper into a layer of trees and go through the gate of the Beast's castle. You will then find yourself in the dungeon with Belle on the floor, begging and pleading to Beast while Maurice groans from his cell. After exiting the dungeon by "stairwell", you find yourself in the Armory Hall, lined with enchanted, possibly animatronic suits of armor. At the end of the hall, you go through a wooden door into a dining room. This is where the possibilities of your "track" direction are absolutely different every time you ride. This will be the "Be Our Guest" scene, where you are surrounded by silverware and food seen in the movie, some larger than life and some regular-sized (see below):

After exiting the dining hall, the riders will enter the West Wing. Paintings, curtains, other art and royal outfits ly damaged around the room. Belle is seen staring at the enchanted rose by a window, all while the "roses" are weaving in and out of each other. At the exit, on a wall, Beast's angry shadow sits ready to erupt. After this scene the "roses" come together into one confined area again, though still a trackless system. After the West Wing, you enter the forest and find Belle and Phillipe sprinting away from wolves with the Beast close behind. You continue on through the woods until you reach another castle doorway. After entering, you'll find you have entered the castle ballroom, where Belle and Beast are dancing like this:

Once again at this area the "roses" can be random as they spin around in the waltz with Belle and the Beast. After you waltz around the room, you go out onto the "terrace" and around the corner, in the next scene, you find Belle looking into the magical mirror and seeing her father in danger. You can tell she is shaken. As you go deeper into the woods, you find Maurice's cottage near the village, where Belle stands on the porch, holding up the mirror to show the towspeople the Beast. Gaston is rallying everyone to kill the creature and they are getting ready for a mob. You go past the cottage and travel deeper into the woods, all along the way "The Mob Song" is heard. Soon you come upon the gates of the castle which are now dented and damaged by a battering ram. You enter and find the finale battle at the castle going on, with the enchanted objects vs. village folk. After exiting through another door, your "rose" comes to the view of Gaston stabbing Beast on a ledge above you. The next scene shows Belle weeping over the Beast's body as the enchanted rose has one pedal left in a winfow behind them. Meanwhile, you enter a dark corridor with fog and strobe lights and the music representing Beast's transformation into Adam. After this mysterious transition, you find Adam rejoicing with Belle on the ledge. The last scene is Adam, Belle, and all of the other enchanted objects in human form standing in front of the castle, waving goodbye to you.
Exit Experience
You exit your "roses" into another cavern. You exit the cavern into a new gift shop, The Enchantress's Cove, because Bonjour! Village Gifts is quite small.

That is my ride! Hope you like it!:D

The winner of the challenge was @WED99, a Hall of Fame honorable inductee, with a fantastic proposal (part 1 seen below)!
Belle and Beast: A Tale of True Love

Belle and Beast: A Tale of True Love is a dark ride utilising brand new ride technology to deliver an emotional story. The ride focusses mainly on the connection between Belle and Beast, but still includes sequences from the movie. It is a very large ride, a definite E-Ticket, but that's what the fans deserve!

Specific Location
A Tale of True Love is located North-East of the Be Our Guest restaurant. It replaces the current restrooms in Belle's Village. New Restrooms will be constructed to the left of Gaston's Tavern. The show building will overtake a current backstage road, requiring a de-tour to be built.

beastmap.png

Facade
I struggled quite a bit with this section. The most obvious choice (The Castle) was already taken, so what could it be? I then realised the best place for the guests to start their journey is where the audience start their's in the film!

beastfacade.jpg

Guests will walk into the forrest (No Castle in Background) and past a waterfall. They will follow the path around a bend and find on the opposite side of the Waterfall a cave entrance. The arrows on the picture indicate the path.

Queue
Once guests enter the cave, they turn a bend and quickly find themselves inside the halls of Beast's Castle. On the walls are stain glass windows telling the story of how the Prince was transformed into the Beast. A narrator tells the story over speakers to ensure everyone gets the full story.

After the final stain glass windows, guests enter the West Wing of the Castle. Here a newly transformed Beast demolishes everything. Lighting effects such as strobe lights allow quick flashes of Beast causing destruction. In the middle of the West Wing is the rose. Every petal intact. Guests then head into the load zone, the next scene in our story. They will find themselves in the middle of the spooky forrest Maurice was lost in. Wind, light and sound effects recreate a powerful storm! Now it's time for the guest's to begin their journey, but on what?

Ride Technology
The Float Fit System. A brand new ride system I designed myself. A unique way to transport guests through dark rides. If your sitting on a wheely chair right now, start sliding yourself side ways. Now imagine scenes of your favourite stories being re-created in front of you. Now imagine your feet floating off the floor. That's right. The Float Fit System is like a chair attached to the wall that moves sideways. There's only one way to easily show you how it works...

wod-7-web.jpg

The system is useful for large scale rides such as this because it defeats the need to create a 360 degree environment, only half is necessary. I drew up a plan of how it works below...

FloatFitSystem.png

The vehicle for this ride in particular will look as if it's straight from Maurice's workshop, wooden stain and all!

Concept continued in next post...

For more challenges and info on Master of the Parks Season 1, there are several past threads dedicated to it, with ideas and concepts galore (and it will probably show up on here again sometime!)

Overall, this competition was one of the spark-plugs that provided the genesis for armchair imagineers to design and create on here. Many contestants in Master of the Parks are armchair imagineers who are still around on the forum producing great content today!

Thanks for taking this journey with me back in time and tune in next week for an all new edition of TAFI Throwback Thursdays!

(P.S. I made a little logo for this thread...bonus points for anyone who can say where the blue paper background comes from...*hint* think retro Disney...that's your tip for today;))

Happy Thursday! A little later today, mostly because I had a thread planned, but then I realized it was active on November 29, 2014...not November 19th like I thought I read, so I had to change it up (next week I'll use that one;)). Nevertheless, we are back for another week of Throwback Thursdays.

With the ICS Tournament II only 12 days away, this week will be dedicated to an opinion thread last November. A thread that got everyone very excited for the inaugural ICS Tournament competition last December, and added more of an "event" vibe to the year-end competition.

The thread was called Bracketology: Imagineering Edition

Initiated by forum member @LittleGiants16, this thread was designed much like the NCAA Basketball March Madness Tournament Brackets, where fans fill out their predictions to win.

Last year, the Elite Eight bracket looked like this:

#1 @jdmdisney99 vs. #8 @tcool
#2 @RMichael21 vs. #7 @Matt7187
#3 @englanddg vs. #6 @IDInstitute
#4 @Voxel vs. #5 @MonorailRed

After a lengthy analysis of the match-ups, LG posted his predictions for the first round and overall power rankings for the tournament. All the first round predictions turned out to be accurate, as @jdmdisney99, @englanddg, @MonorailRed, and @RMichael21 advanced to the final four.

As we approach the ICS Tournament II, the final standings will be released after the end of The Choice on Wednesday, November 25. Then we will see the match-ups and perhaps make some bracketology predictions of our own for this year!

Should be some fun times coming up over the next few weeks! Thanks and see you again next Thursday for another edition of TAFI Throwback Thursdays.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! On this special Thursday we will travel back one year to 2014 to look back at a concept that was not only strong in its own rank, but was actually one of the inspirations for the return of ICS Weekends this year!

The thread was called The Think Tank, started by @IDInstitute. It was essentially a brainstorming thread designed to simulate a realistic spin on the process of designing attractions as WDW Imagineers. Over the span of a few months, several pages of ideas and concepts were proposed, which is the kind of thing that I hope is utilized more often going forward on the forums.

While competitions are very fun to participate in, sometimes it's fun to just throw around ideas about stuff we are passionate about. Makes for a very lively discussion!

Well, this one will be a little shorter this week, as I have to get back to helping with the Turkey!:hungry:
After all the tryptophan has run its course and you've eaten all you can, tune in next week for another edition of TAFI Throwback Thursdays, but until then...have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Thursday! This week, we are again going back to 2014...but not to celebrate a thread, or a project, or anything like that. We are going back to one of the largest influxes of talent the forums have ever seen.

Around late November, early December of last year, the So, You Want To Be An Imagineer (SYWTBAI) community merged with the wdwmagic.com imagineering forum, increasing the size of the boards (as well as the talent). In fact, many of the active members you see today were once a part of the SYWTBAI community.

TheOriginalTiki
Host of the official wdwmagic competition podcasts on YouTube as well as an Elite Eight contestant and host of 1984

JokersWild
An Elite Eight contestant as well as a fellow podcast host on the YouTube channel.

DisneyManOne
Host of League of Dreamers as well as his famous "Whole New World" refurb series

Brer Panther
4th place in The Choice as well as a contestant in The Final Festivus

MANEATINGWREATH
Known for prominent brainstorming threads like the current Nintendo Revolution thread.

Basketbuddy101
Winner of the 1984 competition and great imagineer as a whole.

Twilight_Roxas
Avid imagineer brainstormer who's always putting out interesting ideas.

ScorpionX
Known for his Project Gemini series as well as a frequent competitor in wdwmagic competitions, making it to the final 8 in The Choice

InfiniteRightEar97
Competed and did well in The Sole Imagineer as well as The Creator Games

and many more!

For further information, you can check out the SYWTBAI New Member Introduction thread here:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/sywtbai-new-member-introductions.893688/

That'll do it for this edition of TAFI Throwback Thursdays. A happy birthday to the merge of the SYWTBAI community and many more to come! Thanks and see you next week.

Happy Thursday! Today, we're going to take a different spin on Throwback Thursdays and look at not just one thread, but a concept that I thought you'd all find interesting.

Back in 2001 when the Imagineering forum began, there were members much like ourselves who posted their ideas in threads and brainstorming sessions. We've even looked at one of the armchair-imagineering concepts before (The Monsters Inc Door Coaster) that was ahead of its time.

In searching through the variety of threads, I noticed something called SOJI. I started reading further, and realized that it seemed like this might be an imagineering group that pre-dated TAFI?! And indeed it was.

SOJI stands for the Society of Junior Imagineers, and they even have their own website, much like us....http://soji0.tripod.com/SOJI/

Some of the original members of SOJI were:
- Chad (the founder)
- DisJosh
- disney2b
- Monorail Black (Gosh, "Monorail" usernames must just love imagineering;))
- WDW-Imagineer
- WeirdOne

You can find more info here: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/calling-all-imagineers.2383/

What this told me, and what it made me realize is that there will always be an evolution of armchair imagineers on these boards. Members eventually will fade off into history, but what this should do is inspire "us" to leave our mark here. We should try and set an example and do new, innovative things with our time here, while keeping in the back of our minds that one day... years from now...new armchair-imagineers might look back on our time and be inspired by us. :)

Overall, I thought this was a neat look at the evolution of the forum. With that, tune in next week for another edition of Throwback Thursdays!

Happy Thursday! And Happy Christmas Eve as well. This week, we are going to look back at something that I can't believe started one year ago...feels like it was just yesterday.

In anticipation for the 2nd Season...which is sure to be a smash hit full of twists and turns...today will will look back at

8036977_orig_zps3ebc2bce.png~original

Link to The Sole Imagineer Competition Thread

The Sole Imagineer was an imagineering competition hosted by @RMichael21 based on the CBS reality show Survivor

Just like in the show, contestants are placed into "tribes" and must form alliances in order to stay alive in the game. Throughout the reward and immunity challenges, the tribes face off in imagineering challenges.

Due to its success, The Sole Imagineer is returning in just one week! Look for an announcement sometime tomorrow from RMichael about the game. If you're unfamiliar with the show Survivor...don't worry...because I haven't seen it either:p There were plenty of people who never watched the show last year and ended up having a blast because like all of these competitions...the main goal is the imagineering. The theme just adds a layer of excitement to it, and you pick it up quickly.

For more info check out the link above to the competition thread where you can see all of the challenges and concepts from last year!

Thanks and see you next time on TAFI Throwback Thursdays!

Happy New Year's Eve and welcome to the final TAFI Throwback Thursday of 2015!

With the final throwback, to round out the year, we are going to take a look back at some of the best and brightest of 2015 as part of our annual WDWMAGIC New Years Imagineering Celebration!

Given that so much happened this year that it's hard to put into one post, we will cover more in detail on the Top 10 events of 2015 podcast hosted by the So, You Want To Be An Imagineer YouTube channel. For now, we will use this as an opportunity to say thanks to all the people behind the scenes that made this competition season -- I'll say it -- the best ever!

Imagineering Hosts/Hostesses

To @RMichael21 (The Sole Imagineer) - a thanks for designing a competition that made me intrigued enough to get back into imagineering in the first place. And building up a competition that people are now excited for going into Season 2

To @IDInstitute (The Creator Games) - a thanks for "creating" the competition the inspired so many new contestants to come into the imagineering community and completely a totally unique competition idea that everyone is amped to see again.

To @jdmdisney99 (The Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 3) - a thanks for hosting yet again one of the earliest imagineering competition ideas and the longest running competition the boards have seen.

To @TheOriginalTiki (1984 and The Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 3) - a thanks for hosting 2 competitions this year - like The Creator Games, 1984 brought about so many new faces to the community and you deserve a thanks for all you have done throughout the year.

To @Vipraa (The Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 3) - a thanks for truly holding down the fort during jdm's absence for SA. You handled the transition very well and if the time comes again next year for you to host, I can't wait to see what you have in store.

To @Matt7187 (The Choice) - a thanks for coming up with some of the most interesting imagineering concepts to date. I think your ingenuity will really shape how future competition prompts are designed going forward - and that deserves recognition.

To @Zweiland (2015 ICS Elite Eight) - a thanks for continuing for a second season for the annual year-end comp. It was great once again and we all look forward to next year because of it!

To @MonorailRed (Final Festivus) - a personal thanks for really helping pull this idea together. It was completely spur of the moment, and I have to give a lot of credit because it wouldn't have gotten done without you. Hopefully next year we will have a bit more time:p

And a special thanks to all the judges throughout the year @MAScreamin' @Sam4D23 @Voxel --- many thanks for all your efforts.

We still have many more events to celebrate and appreciate, though we will save that for the podcast!

And while 2015 comes to a close, 2016 is just on the horizon -- a big thanks to everyone, far and wide, who contributed to the imagineering forum in all forms, brainstorming, competitions, individually, for being so awesome this year! Congrats!

Thanks and see you next year:)

Welcome back to TAFI Throwback Thursdays! This week's edition we will take a look back at a concept created by @Vipraa last January 2015.

The concept was called Wish Upon a Star Nighttime Spectacular.
The dazzling video he made got rave reviews from wdwmagic members and was one of the best projects of last year! You can see the full thread on the link above.

Here's the Fireworks show for all to see. Once again fantastic job by Vipraa! Looking back to find something for this week, I was really impressed by this project. Hopefully you continue to pump out concepts like this going forward because it's a real treat on the boards and should be recognized as such.

Thanks and tune in next week for the latest edition of TAFI Throwback Thursdays:)

Welcome back to TAFI Throwback Thursdays! This week's edition we will travel way back in time to 2008. On the So, You Want to be an Imagineer? Season 13 Announcement Thread, we were graced with the return of one of the most prolific armchair imagineerings the site has seen in @KingMickey

I had something planned for today, but after looking at some of his work, I was so impressed and amazed that this week will be dedicated to one of his old threads from 2008 called The Ultimate Disney Resort

I'd definitely recommend checking the thread out with the link above, as the concepts designed are innovative, imaginative, and just plain cool. For anyone who likes good imagineering, this is the place to go, and I hope to see @KingMickey around the forums and be able to work with him someday too!

Cheers and see you all next week!:)

I'm just seeing this last post now.

I'M BLUSHING.

Thanks for the mention @spacemt354 and I really appreciate being a part of one of your Throwback Thursdays! I think this is a great thread that really reflects on many cool and notable projects from the awesome people within the Imagineering community.

That thread was really one of the first projects I ever started prior to any competitions and (while re-reading it makes me question some of my Imagineering decisions way back when, lol), I loved my time on the Imagineering boards!

Hopefully, I'll have more fun on them in the future!

Welcome back to TAFI Throwback Thursday!

We have reached the Episode 7 Immunity Challenge in The Sole Imagineer Season 2: Redemption Island, and to celebrate the episode, we are going to take a look back to this time one year ago, as we saw one of the most bizarre and memorable presentations of Season 1 given by @TheOriginalTiki

During the Episode 7 Reward Challenge, another fellow competitor @Zweiland won the reward of tasking another competitor in the Episode 7 Immunity Challenge, with having to replace Autopia at Disneyland with an IP of the winner's choice.

The IP chosen was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. :hilarious:

In a drastic turn of events, Tiki turned a negative into a positive and created a memoriable project, now celebrating its 1-year anniversary this upcoming week.

Below is the post in all it's glory...and here's a link to last year's Episode 7 Immunity Challenge

Beverly Hills Chihuahua: War of the Woof!

"My name is Papi. I am a descendant from an ancient line of proud warriors. My ancestors went into battle alongside Aztec soldiers. Today we move within the inner circles of the wealthiest and most powerful people on the planet. Who am I? The question is...what am I?"

05340262_.jpg

I am a Chihuahua!

The turn of the decade was a strange time at Disney. The sure-fire Disneyland E-Ticket hit that was Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage had opened to a summer which saw a huge draw of crowds...but word of mouth and reviews of the attraction that were less than ideal. Meanwhile, the sure-fire stinker that was "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" turned into a surprise family hit that went on to spawn a trilogy. As Nemo's reputation dwindled and Disneyland fans wondered if something could to ultize that giant footprint that was the Sub Lagoon and Autopia, the Imagineers had an idea. An absurd, goofy, somewhat brilliant idea.

One of the biggest criticisms against Nemo was the fact that all around the attraction was predictable. From the lazy retread of the original film's storyline to the non-original IP that replaced one of Disneyland's most beloved unique attractions, the Nemo ride turned out to be a bore to all but its grade-school demographic.

The new attraction which will replace both the Submarines and the long-dated Autopia will be anything but predictable. Beverly Hills Chihuahua might seem like a head-scratcher of an IP to put into Tomorrowland, but the series outlandish tone and goofy concept made the property malleable to be turned into a loving homage of silly science fiction. With that in mind, the Imagineers have come up with a brand new E-Ticket adventure which pits the pampered pups against a slew of invading aliens. This is Beverly Hills Chihuahua: War of the Woof!

Changes to the Surrounding Area

War of the Woof will be a mostly outdoors attraction taking advantage of the large wooded area on the far side of Tomorrowland that used to be the footprint for Autopia. The submarine lagoon will be turned into a tropical lagoon. On top of the waterfalls will be a giant Aztec pyramid as seen in the film's trailer, which will become another iconic fixture in Disneyland's skyline.

The building that used to house the Autopia queue will be re-used. The area next to the previous Autopia as well as the Disneyland Railroad station will be made to look like modern day Beverly Hills, with glitzy houses and palm trees lining the area.

Attraction Storyline

The attraction will take place entirely in the year 2020, naturally setting it in the "Tomorrow" time line. Chihuahua fashionista Vivian Ashe (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) is now in the business of designing all kinds of different technology exclusively for doggy use. One such example is a remote controlled Doggy floating device. You can see a variety of different dogs lounging in the waters of the old sub lagoon in their floaties. These are free-moving and floating advance AA creations.

Heading into the queue which serves as Vivian's giant fashion boutique (still a major part of her business) Inside we see various dogs from the film getting pampered and prepped, including trying on different outfits, getting their hair groomed and curled, and even applying "fur-die" a new color-changing invention by Ashe.

Vivian's niece Rachel is seen in the pre-show video from her trip to Mexico reporting to Aunt Viv that aliens have invaded. Vivian, concerned for Rachel's safety hatches up a plan using the recreational "Doggy Mobiles" which are electrically powered go-kart type mobiles which serve as more high tech and efficient versions of the Autopia vehicles.

The vehicles are actually driven on their own, but the illusion is that in the "front seat" (while you and four other people can sit in the two back passenger rows) is an AA talking dog. The following film characters will get their own vehicle. Depending on which vehicle you get, it changes up the story and the experience. Each vehicle comes complete with their own animal as well as an on board video screen so you can communicate with all the other characters. Each ride is a different experience!

The following characters will be represented with a Doggy Mobile.

-Papi

Papi is the hero of the story, and as such while you're riding in his vehicle you get to experience all the bold action. It's worth noting that all the vehicles will be trackless and there will be multiple different routes along the road which you can go down.

Papi's adventure starts by pulling into the woods of the Hollywood hills. Already the alien invaders have reached North America as we see War of the World style pods hovering over us. "Aie Chihuahua!" Papi exclaims. "We gonna be in some deep doggy dooty!"

The pods fire at us and we go down into a drop where we see on a video screen that Papi's girlfriend Chloe...Vivian's prized white Chihuahua, has been captured by the alien scum. Heading down into the back area of the woods where the "car park" used to be, Papi drives right into the "mother ship" of the invading aliens which has a classic "flying saucer" look and shape to it. We go through the ship avoiding AA aliens and rescue Chloe.

We then make a dramatic drop right into the sub lagoon where we see that the Doggy Mobiles are also able to float.

tumblr_m9f0ls7LDv1r1hbp3o1_500.gif

We zoom through the lagoon and into one of the caverns, which we see is contained within a deep catacomb of the Aztec pyramid at the top of the waterfall. The finale of the attraction is the army of Aztec chihuahuas as seen in the original film's trailer performing a sort of in unison "twilight bark" on the back side of the pyramid which appears to be working to draw away the aliens. Who would have known that the key to defeating the alien scum would be dog barking!

Continuing down the woods back towards the loading area, we see Papi retreat from our car and then see him and Chloe embracing on a rock right before pulling into the unload.

Chloe:

While Papi's ride is heroic, Chloe's will be a more "damsel in distress" point of view. Instead of heading up the Hollywood hills and meeting with the War of the Worlds style pods, guests in Chloe's doggie mobile drive through a forest and come face to face with an AA alien, and are then led directly to the mothership only to be "rescued" by Papi. The rest of the attraction plays out the same way.

Delgado

Char_63501.jpg

The German shepherd voiced by Andy Garcia was Chloe's main companion during the original film. His sequences (before all the attraction's vehicles meet back up for the mother ship scene ) will take place in Mexico around a series of Aztec temples. We get a few glimpses of the finale but not enough to fully give it away. We get an upclose encounter with another Pod type creature before Papi informs us that Chloe has been captured and we head straight for the mother ship.

El Diablo

65192_bd.jpg

Voiced by Edward James Olmos, El Diablo is the main villain of the film. His sequences will be chasing around the Delgado vehicle, so we'll be experiencing much of the same scenes except in pursuit of the other vehicle. Throughout the ride Papi and Delgado come on the TV and say that El Diablo will never get away with his plot.

Naturally, when we get to the mothersip sequence where everything meets up, we can see that El Diablo has teamed up with the aliens to try to claim Chloe as himself.

Chico and Manuel

3805-beverly-hills-chihuahua-tippetts-chattering-class-pooches.jpg

Chico and Manuel are the film's comic relief henchmen, a duo consisting of an iguana and a rat. Chico and Manuel were sent out by El Diablo to try to round up the aliens, but as we see in their pre-mothership sequence they're failing horribly. The first couple scenes with these two go awry because of the controls of the vehicle being meant for a dog and not an amphibian or rodent. We continually feel like the vehicle is about to spin out as the duo carelessly steers. Reaching the mothership, we see Chico and Manuel betray El Diablo and join forces with Papi for the twilight bark finale.

There will be 15 ride vehicles total, three of each of Papi, Chloe, Delgado, El Diablo, and Chio/Manuel. Five cars will be launched at a time while the others get boarded, making for an efficient loading system. With the goofy 1950s science fiction tropes as well as the lovable characters from the film and the re-ride factor from the different vehicles, "War of the Woof" promises to be a howling good time for all ages!

Thanks for tuning into this week's TAFI Throwback Thursday! And tune in tomorrow for TSI Season 2's Episode 7 Immunity Challenge...maybe the Chihuahuas will strike again!:D:p
