Selfie sticks - is this a thing at WDW yet? Disney clarifies policy

I'd like for Odyssey to be repurposed into a selfie stick joust hall. They can serve 80's food in there and have the Kitchen Kabaret Krackpots perform during intermissions.

They should also flag your MM+ account if your asked more than once to stow a narsisstick. That way when you get to a ride the CM's would know you are a stick user and can proactively remind you. Of course, this would only work if your band was scanned.

You know, maybe those ridiculous bracelets have a use after all!

Tagging guests for poor behavior, maybe a points system - repeated bad behavior, your band will cease to allow you park entrance.

I'm willing to bet at some part of development of them there was some type of discussion about physical feedback (vibration, etc.) but it was deemed impossible due to power issues - if only they could figure out a way to deliver an electric shock to them, things could get real interesting.

Nah. Just have CM's walk around the park and when they get near a "treasured guest" they tap them with a cattle prod. Or at least smack them with the small flexible end of a fishing pole on their neck.

Or have the most awesome childhood ever. :D

LOL, I would have possibly thought that until half-way through, and then when the kids get upset (and the other kid goes in to make the first kid even more upset) and the dad jumping in to "reset" his display to play again...yeah, I see the future there and it ain't pretty LOL.

I guess I am old and out of touch but I never understood selfies. When I go somewhere I use a real camera and take pictures of the things I want to remember or that caught my eye at the time. If I wanted to see my face there is always a mirror in the bathroom. The only selfies needed are the passport and drivers license photos and obligatory profile pic if you must. I do not need me in front of castle, me in front of giant golf ball, me in front of big blue hat, me eating the grey stuff...........................

Funny you should mention dinging guests MDE accounts...

While riding to Animal Kingdom yesterday in my Disney provided limo (it was just me and the bus driver, so he said I was getting a limo ride), the bus driver relayed a story regarding some guests when he was working grounds at EPCOT. Apparently some guests got really drunk (yeah, I know) and got into a fight and ended up being escorted from the park (polite way of saying they threw the bums out). By the time the guest arrived back at their resort (they were staying on property), their resort reservation had been cancelled, their bags were waiting at bell hop and they were banned from ever visiting a Disney park again - can't purchase tickets, can't stay in a Disney resort - he said Disney will flag your account. What was interesting is that Disney called a bus to come get the offensive guests, rather than letting the Orange County Sheriff's office take care of the idiots. After all, public intoxication and fighting will get your arrested.

I noticed a No Use of Selfie Stick emblem on the entrance to the Thunder Mountain Building - it was the international symbol for No - the red circle with a selfie stick symbol and the slash through the circle. Was the only ride I noticed that on. However, I noticed more selfie sticks this trip than our trip in March. And yes, some jerk was using his during the SW fireworks. Fortunately for him, he wasn't blocking my view (just the view of the people to the right of me), because if he had, I would have beat him senseless with the damn thing. My daughter was tempted to snatch the cell phone off of one as she walked by. "Oh, sorry, is this yours? It was just hanging out there in space so I thought it was up for grabs."

I'm inclined to agree with the ban. If you're already on a ride, and want a quick photo before it starts, you don't need the selfie stick to do it. Hold the phone in your hand and take the photo....then put it away. If anything, selfie sticks just add to an existing and long-standing problem of park guests stopping where-ever they see fit - even if it inconveniences scores of people around them - for a stupid selfie.

It would be nice if Disney made a point of actively reviewing video blogs that highlight Disney parks, and if the vlogger promotes using a selfie stick on a Disney ride through such use, then cancel their passes and had the video removed. (Most of these vlogger folk seem to have APs)

We need time for things to happen.
I just got back from the World and I have to say that I was pretty surprised to only see about 3 to 4 of these god forsaken narssisticks, and we were there a couple "10 crowd level" days.
