RnR a bad idea for my first "real" coaster?

I read through some of the "RnR or EE" post, but I have a different twist on the question? I'm not a big coaster fan, but I want to show my daughter (12) that's it's possible to overcome your fears. She loves Thunder Mountain, and I've ridden it with her and I don't enjoy it. I do enjoy Splash Mountain, mostly because the big drop is thrilling and it's over in a second or two. We both rode Space Mountain last month...she enjoyed it and I enjoyed it a little bit, but I was quite anxious in the queue. We're both too scared (so far) to try Everest.

Neither of us has ever been upside down on a coaster...that scares me a lot. It's what scares me about RnR. It's scared me every since I wimped out on the Super Loop at the county fair back in middle school. We've stood under The Hulk at Universal and we can't believe people ride that kind of thing. :)

How does RnR compare to The Hulk? I've been told RnR has zero drops, but the thrill is in the speed and the two loops and the barrell roll (two of those too?)? Is it as tall/high as the Hulk?

Am I asking for trouble if I ride RnR as my first "real" coaster?

The launch sounds and looks awesome! We walked through the single rider queue with her friend so she could ride it, and we watched several launches. And you launch right into the first loop, right? Sounds so cool and thrilling but also very scary...I just threw up a little bit. :)

Thanks!

I love roller coasters but The Hulk was a bit much for me. To me, RnR is nothing like The Hulk. Sure, there are a couple of loops in RnR but nothing like The Hulk....NOTHING. The launch in RnR is amazing even if you don't appreciate roller coasters. RnR has speed and, since the coaster is in the dark, you don't get the full effect of the loops and it is not as high as The Hulk. Definitely try RnR at least once. You may decide it isn't for you but I don't think you'll regret it and I have a feeling your daughter will LOVE it! Besides, the music is awesome and makes the ride go by quite quickly. FYI - Everest is (in my opinion) nothing to fear if you don't mind the coaster going in reverse for a portion of the ride.

We need time for things to happen.
This a tough one. I think it may just be preference and it's hard for me to give you a good opinion...I'll try:

My kids are big coaster fans and will do just about any coaster (including things like the Hulk).
I'm a coaster fan, but I can't do loops etc because too much upside down or spinning and I'm p*king (no Hulk for me).
My wife is NOT a coaster fan at all ( but she LOVES BTMR).

We ALL LOVE the RNR.

It's not a fear thing as far as heights etc. with me.
It's about the fear of losing my lunch. Especially with food prices at WDW.

So with all that being said...It's all about what scares you and what you actually enjoy.

You don't enjoy BTMR and that's pretty tame in comparison to most rollercoasters....BUT it sounds like the speed of the launch at RNR excites you! It should - IT'S AWESOME teeth gritting Cheeks pinned back 70 MPH awesomeness!

Also I'm not hundred percent sure but I think RNR is considered 3 corkscrews..but I could be wrong...it's in the dark I'm rocking to Aerosmith and in the moment and loving it so who knows....

I'm looking back at this post...I thought I was giving you some info..but guess I've told you nothing....Sorry. (bad 800th post ;) )

I don't think RnRC is a good first 'real' coaster. Not that it is intense because it really isn't. And the launch is one of the most exhilerating feelings you'll get at WDW. But the coaster has aged poorly and is rough as hell now. I rode it this spring and my head got banged around quite a bit.

The Hulk is a great coaster, but also was a bit rough on my last trip. It is certainly more intense than RnRC, which is almost over as soon as it starts.

FWIW, my first inverted coaster that I rode (at 30 as I was a ridiculous wimpy Spirit before and thought that people aren't supposed to go upside down -- I was wrong!) was Dueling Dragons at IOA and that is one smooth coaster and probably the best 'real' coaster in O-Town to be a first.

I absolutely love RnR (I love roller coasters in general and will go on any and all kinds, no matter how crazy they look...I have, as my mother tells me whenever I go on roller coasters, an "iron stomach" :)) and the launch is really fun. I don't think you'd be asking for trouble. It's not rough or not near as rough as Hulk anyways. You don't really "see" the coaster since it's all in neon and you don't see it before actually going on the ride so at least you wouldn't be watching it over and over and working yourself up. It is definitely not as big as Hulk either (3 whole stories shorter, actually). It is also SHORT (it's about 1 minute and 20 seconds) so at least if you don't like it, you will not be on it long. I think you'd be ok.

You might honestly want to consider trying Everest first. As far as roller coasters go, it too is pretty tame and relatively smooth. Is it the loops, ect that scare you the most or the "climb" and drop? Everest doesn't actually have a drop really after that climb up the big hill even though it looks like it. And the big "drop" that you see is towards the end and takes about as much time as that drop on Splash.

We'll have to do this for "Take a Spirit to Lunch" day.

I'd have to say Dragons is my favorite coaster in O-Town, but I haven't been on Manta yet.

You should be ok on RnRC , the start is amazing and as soon as you get your breath back you are out of the first 2 loops anyway, it's that fast and over with that quick it won't be a problem. In my opinion all the coaster in Orlando are nothing to the mighty kumba in Tampa.

Go for it! Rockin' Rollercoaster is one of my favourites, and I think its one of the best first rollercoasters you could ride. The launch is a little scary, which actually might help take some of the fear away from the corkscrews etc. Plus the music is so immersive that you'll be totally swept away and it will be over before you know it (and I'm sure you'll consider that to be a bad thing eventually!). I think Everest is a little more extreme, just because of the height and steep vertical drop, but shouldn't be too much of a problem once you've conquered RnR. I actually did Dueling Dragons and The Hulk years before any Disney rollercoasters, which made them a lot less scary in comparison...

My wife is a big coaster fan. I told her I would ride any coaster with her as long as it didn't put me upside down. Long story short, we go on RnRC not knowing (she says) that it had loops and corkscrews. When it was over I had to ask her if we went upside down. The plus is that my wife hates elevators but she felt she owed me and she did ToT with me. I love RnRC and she loves ToT now.

My daughter is 6 and her first one was Space mountain... I was 3 when i did it for my first time... RnR is fast but smooth. Its not bumby at all witch makes it much more enjoyable the space mountain. Hope this helps

I think RnR would be the way to go. Not a bad first "real" coaster. I agree with another poster. You're going to get immersed in the music, plus it's a fairly short coaster. So if it's too scary. Then at least you won't be scared for too long. :). If you've handled SM then you'll be fine on RnR despite the loops

I hate coasters and I love RnRC - it's smooth, fast, and most importantly as other posters have said, over quickly. Also, since there are no lift hills you just decrease speed as the ride goes on. My fear with coasters is I always feel like I am going to fall out (at the start of the big drops) - RnRC makes you feel like you are getting pushed down into the car. One recommendation - DON'T close your eyes on the launch. I did and when I opened them I couldn't figure out if I were upside down or right side up. You also look like a sissy in the ride photo! ;)

You could just skip roller coasters all together and still have a fantastic time. Due to multiple back surgeries, I have not been on a coaster in years, yet still visit at least once, sometimes twice, a year. There is so much more to all the theme parks then thrill rides. If you don't like broccoli don't eat broccoli. I think a better lesson for your daughter than overcoming fears is not giving in to peer pressure. I know my situation is different in that it is physical, but I enjoy watching my wife ride what she wants to and she understands when I don't ride something for whatever reason. Have fun no matter what you decide. Oh, my wife recommends Hulk, I'll stick with Soarin'.

Manta....best coaster "ride" in Florida.

As for RnR being a first real coaster....go for it.
Going upside down really isn't scary once you've done it, and it hasn't gotten so rough as to be unenjoyable. But I would request a seat in the first 8 rows or so...

Forget Hulk, it is one of the biggest letdown coasters that the east coast has. B&M NEVER should have attempted to play with their tolerances to accomodate a third party part launch system. Completely screwed up what could have been a great ride. Thank the heavens Dragon Challenge still exists there.

I agree with @Lee . Manta is going to be the smoothest coaster ride.... I mean ride in Central Florida. B&M built it to be graceful with mild but noticeable forces and boy they got graceful. Very rideable for a first timer or young person with a great style that goes upside down but not truly.

Actually, it sounds like you might be in Florida? Do not rule out Cheetah Hunt at BGT. It is beyond smooth with a qick rather zeroG roll. Inversion goes by rather fast and so smooth you shave while riding.

I like the upside down loops. Just keep you head back against the headrest and it's really smooth...to me, it doesn't feel like you are going upside down at all, because you can't really see it happening in the dark (unlike say, the Hulk coaster or any looping outdoor coaster.)
I think it's a great first "Real Coaster" experience.
