Ride Stoppage/Breakdown Stories

COP - It just stopped rotating - we had to sit through the final scene about four times before people got up and started to leave. There weren't ant cast member announcements or anything.

TT - We've suffered delays while the cars temporarily stop running, but never been stuck

SSE - We've suffered delays here as well when the cars grind to a halt (usually while they load / unload disabled guests).

My daughter and I got stuck on Primeval Whirl recently. I really don't like the ride but went on it because my 12 year old didn't want to ride by herself. For me it turned out to be and win/win situation. I only had to ride half the ride, and, when they removed us, we got a free fastpass on any ride. We proceeded to Dinosaur and rode quickly.

My daughter (then 10) and son (then 12) were with me riding Tower of Terror 6 years ago when the breakdown happened to us. Now you have to understand, my daughter was terrified of ToT and this was the first year I was able to convince her to ride it. I swore to her that it wasn't scary and that it's quite fun. So we boarded the elevator, the doors close and we start the initial lift and that's when everything stopped and went black inside the elevator. Not only was it to dark to see anything in front of your face, but what I considered even worse was that the air stopped moving in the elevator. So here we were, stuck in the dark, the air as hot, thick and sticky as any Florida day, and my daughter asking me, "is this part of the ride daddy?" I explained to her that it wasn't but we should be moving any second. Well any second became any minute, and then any minute became a total of 12 minutes before the lights and air came back on. The lowered us back to where we boarded and were able to get off. For our troubles they gave us 2 fastpasses for any rides in any parks that we wanted but unfortunately I never got my daughter back on the ride for that vacation trip we were on.

PoTC: Stopped right before the ladies chase the pirates. Brazilian tour group in front of us, chanting something in very loud Portuguese, Brazilian tour group BEHIND us, responding to their chants with something similarly horrifying. All the while, a man in the front row of our boat is turned around, shooting flash pictures back at his children in the row behind him. It was my own personal hell. It was only 22 minutes, but it felt like 5 hours.

I've endured many stops over the years. My last trip was summer of 2014, and it was a combined honeymoon/familymoon(me, my wife, and her son who was almost 9 at the time). On the Haunted Mansion, it stopped for a few minutes at the party scene, and I think it also stopped while going backwards out of the attic. I always want it to stop there so I can lay back and relax, hehe. This trip marked the first time in my memory of going to Disney World of having to be evacuated from a ride, and it was on Splash Mountain. It was our last night, and we were going to ride that once more and then head to PoTC. We had just loaded and gone around the first bend, and as soon as we started going up the ramp, the ride stopped. We were stuck for about 30 minutes. I remember it was so loud because of the falling water all around us. They made announcements about CMs coming to evacuate the ride, and I guess they must have started from the top down, because I think we were one of the last ones to be evacuated, even though we were right at the bottom. It was very annoying, particularly because I never did get to ride PoTM. We did get fast passes for it, which did us no good, since we were leaving the next day. Luckily, we were able to get on Thunder Mountain one last time, on the last train for the night. It was a neat experience, and if it had been earlier in the trip, it wouldn't have been so aggravating.

IASW: My mom despises this ride, and calls it "the nap ride". We always convince her to ride once with us, because it's a classic, etc...

So-we're in the grand finale room, right before the 'goodbye' mural- boats bumper to bumper, my mom positively deploring everything that's happening around her-and our boat stopped. And we started moving backwards, through the room we were almost out of.

We probably got an extra 5-10 minutes-but like others have said, time really has a different meaning on IASW-it could have been a week, who really knows.

My mom still brings this up. Her rage was hilarious.

We were also once escorted off of Big Thunder, and walked underneath the mountain and saw all its mechanisms. That was really fun and memorable, but in an entirely different way.

In April 2014, Space Mountain stopped about half way through. We were zipping along when all of a sudden the car came to a fast stop on a flat section of track. All the lights came up. Here is a pic I snapped of what it looks like with the lights on:

They immediately made an announcement that the ride was down and that a cast member would be by shortly to escort us off the ride. There was a catwalk landing right next to our car and the cast members helped each of us out and then escorted us to an elevator. You can see the elevator shaft with stairs next to it in the picture.

The cast members told us that one of the ride operators heard a large metallic clank that they had never heard before so they stopped the ride out of an abundance of caution. Never did find out what the clank was, but the ride was running again later that day.

On a side note, we had used FastPass to ride. Once we got out, I checked MDE app on my phone and saw that we already had new FastPasses good for anytime that day.

If I understand correctly, are you saying they automatically gave you a new FastPass on MDE for a return ride to Space? If so, that is pretty slick.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I thought it was pretty slick, too. Impressed the heck out of me. Although MyMagic+ certainly has its share of glitches, when it works properly, it's a good thing.

Stuck on the skyride once for over an hour, dangling above the speedway with a thunderstorm coming in. Not fun.

HM: stuck plenty of times. I like getting stuck with Leota in the ball or the banquet hall.

POTC: first evac this past January, something about Pirates cooking and eating tourists.

Spaceship Earth: quick starts and stops.

Splash Mountain, extremely rainy day very little crowd took advantage of no lines in Adventure Land doing pretty good first 4 rides we get to Splash Mountain and it stops half way through. they kept us on the ride for 45 minutes!!! we are all getting restless and they kept announcing the ride would continue shortly. everyone was so ed we lost so much time sitting there vs taking advantage of no lines to enjoy the later part of the day relaxed. Walked out the back side of Splash Mountain around the work areas before re-entering the park. The rest of the day was no different than if we arrived at 1pm with the crowds.

I've had a fair amount of stoppages - the usual occasional ones in all the Omnimover rides (Spaceship Earth, Haunted Mansion, Horizons when it was there etc). Had a brief stoppage on POTC once as well.

I've only ever been evacuated from a ride once. It was Universe of Energy - just after the preshow when we went into the main room. One kid decided he didn't want to stay and got up, despite repeated calls from the Cast Members to keep the kid seated otherwise they'd have to stop the ride and evacuate everyone (which apparently consists of about 1000 people). Unfortunately, the kid didn't listen, the CMs stopped the ride and we all had to get off.

Yesterday I was riding the TTA/People Mover when it stopped inside the Space Mountain tunnel. I was directly under the lift hill for Space Mountain and the lights came on inside the tunnel. The train up ahead of me had some very loud people on it but it was still kind of dark in that area so I couldn't see to well, but I noticed guests were getting out of their train and standing on the sides of the track. A few moments later and they all started chanting and jumping up and down. This is when I realized it was more pesky South American tourists :banghead:. The CM came over the PA system and asked them to get back into their vehicles but they didn't listen. About 5 minutes pass and several CMs came running by my toward the guests up ahead. They were ushered from the ride, the lights went off, then the ride started to move again.

Gotta say, I love the Jurassic Park reference there.

We've been stuck on many, the worst in november 2013 on the TTA. It stopped five times and the ride lasted forever!!
The weirdest one was being asked to leave the Indy Jones show in HS because the computer went down what synchronised the stunts at the beginning:(

One time we got on Space Mt at 1 am (Closing) and then it broke down for about a half an hour, but they still let us on at the end. We were the last group out of the park! (We were next in line when it broke down, and only 1 more rocket after us) Also, I always get stuck at Madame Leota on HM.
