We've been poking around at the following for our trip which will be 23 Jan - 30. I have AAA and would like to suggest a few options for them to look into.

I'm looking for some current advice (i.e., considering construction at Poly, etc, weather in Jan) on where to stay. I went in a low crowd week Nov 2012 with 2 adults and a 2yo and 6m old and stayed at Carribbean Beach (Trinidad North). What I liked about that was the location to food, the first floor entrance and overall feeling. What I didn't like was the infrequency of buses, the lack of space to add a 3rd adult.

We'd like to stay in the park but don't have many requirements other than a good value and sleeps 3 adults and 2 kids (4 and 2). We don't plan to spend a lot of time in the rooms (we're getting a park hopper) and don't plan to cook a lot, but are thinking the family suites are intriguing. We will likely do Magic Kingdom twice but will go to other parks. I am not so concerned with making the resort entertaining to kids, they are 4 and 2 and will be entertained out of their minds enough (i.e., as fun as the AoA rooms sound, I'm not too worried that we need the themed stuff at these ages).

In order of how we're leaning based on price and amenities.

1. Family suite at All Star Music
Q - Can my husband and I possibly be comfortable in the fold out bed for 6 nights?
Q - Is it really as far away from stuff as it seems?

2. Standard room at Poly (prcies are reasonable, assuming due to massive construction). I saw they had been giving passes to Blizzard Beach to Poly folks, but Blizzard Beach is closed in Jan. Also, not sure how much we'll be doing the water parks in Jan.
Q - Is the construction going to sour our trip? No main pool
Q - Will we survive in a standard room? i.e., it would be nice to have a real second bed, but is it worth the reduction in living space?

3. one bedroom villa at Old Key West - pricier, kitchen overkill, but space is nice.
Q - Looks beautiful but will we be able to stay on the fold out couch for 6 nights?

4. Contemporary - I think the price would be higher and we'd be more cramped, but we'd be closer to the action

5. FW cabins - Kitchen not really needed

Others?

Thanks!

In January Wilderness Lodge is my favorite and I have been there with the same mix of kids and adults. It is a boat ride from magic kingdom and much cheaper than the other deluxes. We were mom dad grandma and 2 kids. The two kids shared a bed with grandma which was fine for us as the beds are big but that might not work for you. Also as an other point as a 6 year old my two favorite places were the contemporary and polynesian and I think many people over emphasize the value of the cartoon themeing vs the topical themeing of the resorts like the poly, wilderness lodge and contemporary. As a kid I thought the monorail going through the contemporary was amazing and the polynesian seemed so exotic to a new england kid.
