Renting DVC POINTS

I'm a little skeptical about renting DVC points- I have looked at Dave's DVC and it's almost too good to be true. The difference per night vs a reservation direct from Disney is over $200 for a 1 BR at the Boardwalk!:jawdrop: Something seems off . If you rent DVC points are you not getting services like mousekeeping daily???

We just finalized paperwork this week renting thru Dave for our Spring Break trip 2014. The process was so easy! We gave him our 3 choices none of those were available but he responded with about 8 options that were! Staying 8 nights at AKL Studio for less than it would have cost us rack rate for French Quarter. Mouse keeping only comes on the 4th day, but that's fine with us. Oh, and you have to pay up front and there's a no cancelation policy but they did provide us with a link to get a quote for trip insurance. They were GREAT about answering any questions we had. I did my homework and Dave's service gets rave reviews. We may never do Disney the same again!

When you rent you are losing daily Mousekeeping as you are treated like a regular DVC guest. Mousekeeping is only for paid reservations directly through Disney. Mousekeeping only comes every 4 days. On the 4th day they take out trash and provide more toiletries and towels etc. On the 8th day they do a full clean, and so on every 4 days the same cycle above is repeated. If you want daily Mousekeeping you have to pay a pretty hefty fee. $30+ dollars and up per day depending on what size of room your in. So if you care about daily Mousekeeping you have to pay daily or just book direct with a discount if you can get one with Disney. Usually you can get a 35% -40% discount if you do a room only discount that's offered. That's what we always did before we became DVC members this year we booked direct with whatever discount was offered at the time. Also with Disney you won't have to deal with a no cancelation policy like when you rent points. We always preferred booking direct. :)

Ive never used them prior, but we are booked through daves for next may. You cant beat the price. What I heard is daves pays the DVC owner half for booking, then half after the renter (me or you) checks in. I hear there are hardly any problems with the process even among private contracts between owner and renter. Dave is a little more than private owners I found, but Im experimenting with daves company first.

Print all your paperwork and transactions just in case. Worst case scenario, pay with a credit card and if there is no reservation when you get there ask the desk to put it in writing for you and dispute it on your credit card and stay somewhere else for cheaper (off site or value).

We already have our reservation and wife is always checking stuff on the account so I assume we would know quickly if it got cancelled somehow.

Good Luck.

Nothing to be skeptical about. DVC rack rates are inflated to make DVC owners think they are getting a better value for their money, just like how some food items have been inflated to make DDP look like a better deal. Owners have to pay about $5-6 per point in maintenance fees each year, and they also are responsible for whatever portion of any loan those points cost in one year. So a point could cost a DVC owner about $10 per year until any financing is paid off. So rental agents pay the owner about $11 per point, and basically the owner breaks even for the year. It works real well if an owner cannot travel in a given year, and allows them to not end up "throwing" away the value of the points.
Compare the cost of renting, the cost of the accommodations you would use otherwise. Usually a moderate or deluxe comes out ahead, if you normally stay at a value, point rental often costs more.

I've rented points four times before but directly from DVC members. Takes some hunting on your part to find a renter with the right amount points you need but you can usually save $2-3/point over a broker site like Dave's.

But the savings over rack rates in ridiculous.
