Rain options?

So we are leaving tomorrow morning for Disney world. The forecast all week for next week has been 80-90% change of rain and thunderstorms the whole time we are there. I'm slightly freaking out since its out first trip and I want it to be perfect. In case it does end up raining the whole time what are some not to miss things that can be enjoyed in the rain?

Well, the first bit of advice is to realize that your trip will probably not be "perfect". Things are going to happen that you probably don't expect, especially since it is your first time going. Just go with the flow.

Now that we are into June, you should be expecting rain everyday. It's just the way it is.

There are many, many attractions to do when it is raining. Plenty of dark rides & shows to keep you occupied. We have never let the rain stop us. Just poncho up and keep going.

Looking at your avatar, I'm thinking you may have a stroller with you. I'd bring something to cover your stroller when you go in somewhere so you don't come out to a soaking wet stroller.

Don't freak out. Many rainshowers are brief and actually a relief from the heat (and makes the crowds go away!) But they are common, and in our experiences, usually pop up in the afternoon. So just be flexible and be willing to pop into shows on a whim, and take advantage of the good weather to do the outdoorsy rides. One time, it poured cats and dogs when we were on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (aka "Blue Ride") and though it goes in and outdoors, it's completely covered and we had a great time zooming around while we watched it pour and watched people run around in the rain.

You are vacationing in a tropical climate during the start of storm season. Most showers hit in the mid to late afternoons and are often violent but brief.

Yeah, if you're concerned about missing Splash Mountain, hit it in the morning. Depending on the weather, it might be a walk on regardless of crowd levels.

Generally Florida in June goes like this each day...

It starts off hot, as the day goes on it gets hotter and the humidity increases, you have a brief downpour of heavy rain possibly Thunder, the rain clears and it is slightly cooler for an hour and then the evening kind of comes out sunny and the heat returns.

It is basically the same most days, it is just a question of being aware of the point at which the rain is going to start and work around it.

This won't ruin your trip. Have a great time.

I'm a big fan of the umbrellas instead of the ponchos. Both will keep you dry, but when you go inside to do an attraction, if you're wearing a poncho you have to either leave it on and feel kinda clammy or take it off. Then you have to put it back on as you go back outside. With an umbrella you just fold it and move on. And if you have deep pockets in your cargo shorts, it acts as kind of a holster for when the rain totally goes away.

Probably been said, but rain generally doesn't ever last "all day" and almost never rains at night. Thunderstorms are typically in the afternoon and clear out in a few hours.

Rain has a 0% impact on my vacation at Disney other than enjoying the parks with lighter crowds. Almost everything is indoors, so enjoy a few things inside while it's raining and go back out when it's done.

Having lived in Florida in my younger days, I can assure you that during the summer you will have lots of times with 80-90% chance of rain... But unless there is a hurricane or tropical depression moving over the odds are it will rain like crazy in small pockets at various times for a very short time, just enough to maintain that wonderful 90% humidity level.

I assume you are going in the summer so the best thing you can do is buy yourself a few cheap Dollar Tree ponchos and accept that at random times you will see rain. It wont ruin your trip just try to plan to hit the rides that get closed for rain and lightning at times when you don't anticipate rain... because once those rides get closed down they don't just instantly open once the rain stops they have to wait in some cases for lightning to pass the area.

But you trip wont be ruined unless your the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz... Just look at the rain as liquid sunshine.

That said, I once tried to watch IllumiNations during a flat out thunderstorm. I mean it was raining so hard that you couldn't even see the barges in the middle of the lagoon. So yeah, it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Right, anything can happen, but it's WAY more rare to rain at night than during the day. Also, 12 hour rain shows are exceedingly rare.

I think fireworks have been cancelled a grand total of once in 60 trips to Disney.

All of this is great advice but here's an alternative: keep pouring water on yourself the entire day. That way, you avoid overheating and when it starts raining, you're wet anyways, so who cares? :p obviously I'm (mostly) kidding, but for some real advice, avoid Epcot if there is any chance of a monsoon that day. Turns out, the Japan and Mexico pavilions were engineered to become swimming pools in the case of any heavy rain. No $10 poncho will save you from the misery that is soaked shoes/socks in WDW ;). But like others said, it will mostly rain briefly, albeit heavily, in the late afternoon and rarely into the night.

I am in the same boat with you. We will be going to Universal. Monday and Tuesday may be the most problematic, they're worried a tropical storm may form in the gulf, 50% chance as of now. Guaranteed rain either way though. I don't know if it would be all day or not, as everyone else said, that would be unusual.

I don't mind the rain and I always encourage everyone to get out there in the rain, there is always less people! The WDW ponchos work very well too, they are a good material and do not stick to you like a trash bag poncho.

Oh, and wear sandals!

Don't. You've just described typical Florida summer weather. Bring ponchos for your party and just keep an eye on the sky. If it begins to rain (no lightning), put on the poncho and keep touring. Waits will be less. Find things to do indoors if a thunderstorm crops up. It will pass over before you know it.

One more thing, many rides are indoors and have covered que areas (I think partly because FL gets so much rain). Stroller parking may be another issue, those stay outside. Don't sweat it, don't be scared of the rain. Have fun!

In the Parks
Yes
If it's just rain with no lightning, then really only Test Track gets shut down. If there is lightning in the area, however, most outdoors rides get shut down. Be wary that puddles can form in certain areas of the parks and totally soak your feet if you're not careful.

We were there two weeks ago and it called for thunderstorms most of the week. And IT did! We were completely soaked (I mean like we just jumped in a pool with our clothes on!) in Epcot. Got to see a flooding in England!

Fantastic was canceled because of rain. We only went to HS for a day so we missed the show :geek:

We got soaked again in the AK. Not as bad as we did in Epcot but still very wet. We ended up buying ponchos there. Everest was shut down and waited about an hour and gave up.

This is the first time we ever got this much rain at the world.

Weve had trips where the weather forecast was dismal and it turned out to be very very different. Theres hope that you wont have it as bad as its looking to be. But even on the chance that it does rain, dont go thinking the weather will ruin your trip, your frame of mind can make or break your trip. You can still go and have a great time, just work your plan around the weather. Do more indoor attractions, wander the shops and resorts more, spend time pin trading, talk with CM's, find out what entertainment the resorts are offering, find interesting things to do that you havent done before. Yeah it stinks when you are looking forward to a sun filled FL, but sometimes you have to roll with what comes. Heres hoping you have a great time. ;)

Take the forecasts with a grain of salt! On our last two visits, we had forecasts of rain nearly every day -- and never saw a drop of it! There were times when we'd walk out of an attraction exit to find that there'd been a brief shower while we were inside, but that was it.

Keep ponchos/mini-umbrellas with you in case you need them, and wear footwear that works well in wet conditions (e.g., yes to waterproof hiking sandals -- no to leather sandals, sneakers or Crocs, which become incredibly slippery when wet) but otherwise, just tour as you would otherwise and have a good time. A few of the outdoor attractions do close down when it's raining, so you might need to tinker with your plans a little, but it shouldn't have a huge impact on your day.
