For our honeymoon we were Bert & Mary Poppins. My wife felt out of place leaving the room (Wilderness lodge) to the boat since no one else was dressed but once we got in the park I rarely saw an adult not dressed up. Very fun and we got a lot of compliments. If I find a picture I will post soon.

My dh and myself were pirates last year. My mom was a cop and my dad was a baseball player! It's fun to see everyone dressed up!

I have gone many times in a group of adults- I have been everything from Woody to Prince Phillip. It's fun seeing all of the adults dressing up and having just as much fun as the kids!

Have gone as various pirates in the past... was thinking we might do ghosts from the haunted mansion this year just need to try and sort out the costumes and how to make them look right.

Having went twice, once with just hats and last year in full costumes, I can say it was way funner dressed up! Hate I am going before the parties start this year. Hope you have a great time!

I ordered these from Amazon to wear and we're just going to wear neon green and blue t-shirts. Nothing fancy!

So, does Disney relax the normal restrictions on being in costume for guests, or are their different rules entirely for these events?
They don't "relax" the restriction, it is completely allowed and encouraged during the party.

Yes, a lot of adults dress up. Cast members go out of their way to interact with everyone in costumes. It is pretty amazing. We even were asked to sign autograph books for several CMs, it was really so much fun!

My fiance and I went as Carl and Ellie last year! It was really, really fun - we got a lot of compliments, too! Most adults dress up!

I think they may have an issue with those that come too close to the Disney costume. I seem to remember someone talking about that once. Disney not wanting a non-CM greeting kids and such.
That said, the wife and I have gone as a doctor and a nurse before. We stopped by the shop in DTD to get name tags that read "Mal" for mine and "Practice" for hers.

Hi! It's super encouraged to dress up. And every other character who is doing an actual meet and greet is in some kind of Halloween attire as well.

Normally, yes. During parties, people are encouraged to be in costume. I saw photos of someone from last year as a ToT bellhop, nametags and all (I think he might actually be on the boards), and as far as I know there weren't any problems with that.
As for myself, I think I'll be going as Russell/a Wilderness Explorer, although I don't have my costume together yet!

Hm. Haven't heard that one, though I imagine that's a big part of the rationale in not allowing costumes during normal operating days.
I could imagine there being a restriction on dressing as an actual cast member, though I've seen a picture or two of people seeming to do just that.

I only have one thought on that... don't put it on until the sun goes down. I've worn costumes with hats or other things that go over your head and I wouldn't recommend them during the daylight hours the Florida sun will cook your brain. Made the ultimate mistake my first party by wearing a full pirate costume complete with hat and overcoat... Quickly realized I was going to die from a heat stroke if I didn't remove some of it.... Remember the time of year you are there and the fact that it is Florida.
