Premium Parking coming to Walt Disney World's parking lots?

OMG how did I miss this news? You know I always just always have a car, frequently because we drive in but even when we fly in I rent a car. And I'm notorious about not using the bus. It's this carry forward aversion from working the cage at a casino in the 80's and dealing with what we labeled bus people. I'm so bad about not riding the buses to the parks that for years every time we are getting ready to go to a park the two grands BEG to ride the bus.
But this last short trip a couple of weeks ago we flew in just the boyfriend and I and rode DME to the resort. So we were obliged for 5 days to use Disney Transportation. And we stayed at SSR so like that's pretty much the bus everywhere unless we were going to Disney Springs.
And it wasn't too bad. Although I did mention on Wednesday maybe we could rent a car for the last 2 days...which didn't happen.
Anyways so parking matters to me because I will skip that bus ride almost every time and drive myself to a park.
I don't like being parked in the south 40 either. I just can't see myself paying 15 bucks though to get up close. I mean I spend enough. And I don't want to start selling myself on the thought process that another $150 on what's an 8 grand trip is insignificant.
I dunno maybe I would spend the $15 occasionally. As long as I don't have to pre book it 60 days in advance

The Disabled Parking is closer than the premier. My mother also uses a scooter and has a disabled parking pass. I colored them in Green for you. :)

Thanks for the visuals. I don't mind the MK, AK, and Studios change so much... but bummed about the lot they picked for EPCOT. That was a short walk to the entrance and we've almost never taken the tram when we've visited there.

Depends on the time of year for sure. A weekday in April is easy; a Saturday in June I doubt they let anybody in without a reservation.

Also depends on the resort. Contemporary and Beach Club are always the toughest to park in, but resorts like Coronado Springs or Caribbean Beach are easy to get into even during peak season.

We visit resorts a lot....

Did you know that in the original planning of the Contemporary and Polynesian, Disney wanted to keep the show going and have no parking at the resorts, having people park instead at the TTC and take the monorail to the resorts. But hoteliers helping them eventually convinced them that people staying the night needed their cars nearby, that the hotel was different in that respect from the parks (among other things they soon learned about operating hotels... as well as the hoteliers' lessons learned about the difference between a resort hotel attached to a theme park as compared to a regular high end urban hotel. Both had learning curves.)

I read that in a book about the building of WDW. That is the best of my memory.

I wonder if they've tossed about "Moderate Parking". Regular parking is as far out as it goes. Moderate parking is that strip in the middle. Premium parking is somewhat up close.

I bet it's just a matter of time.

No, No, No. The existing 'Premium' parking will become 'Platinum' parking, The Middle 'Gold' parking and the remainder sliver will be 'Silver' parking Platinum will be a significant increase over current 'Premium', Gold will be what Premium used to be and the remainder will be the normal 20 buck/day parking

o_O

Is this preferred parking really that necessary?

I don't get it, but I always see some people taking parks up on it. They must be in that group that always says "yes" to everything (Jim Carrey's Yes Man reference).

Personally, I don't think walking a hundred more feet is really all that bad, especially when I'm saving $15.

Does this mean that there is no longer free parking at the Disney Water Parks?

They're not likely to put gates up for the water parks. Since they are only open from 10am to 5pm they will probably just have a CM out there directing people either to free parking or the pre-paid for preferred parking (which is probably only 50 feet closer in the small parking lots they have).
