Plus 1 on ressie

We will be leaving in 17 days :). We will also be traveling with my brother and sister -in-law and niece for their first time to The World. My sister-in-laws mother decided to join in on the fun and I just found out today. Anyhow when I called Disney Dining they stated they can only search for a table of 9, versus seeing if capacity can add 1 more. Needless to say there are no tables available to accommodate our party at any of our ressies.
What are the chances of adding 1 if we show up at the podium? Or is there another strategy I should try?
Thanks!!!

It may work. I am assuming you have 10 people but books for 9? I'm a bit confused by what you wrote since you don't list 10 people. But, most tables seat an even number of people, so if you are going from an odd number to even, they may be able to accommodate you.

Sorry for any confusion. We currently have all reservations for a party of 8. We will now need accommodate 9

Here's what I Think your options are:

1. Look for an ADR for 1 or 2 for the same time, then see if you can sit together, with the understanding that this might not be possible. (Might be nice to have an excuse to leave your kids with your sister and her mom!)

2. Make all new ADRs

3. Take your chances the day of and see if you can add 1 more at the podium. Maybe alternate who gets to explore the world by themselves, if they can't add another person.

I guess it depends on the restaurant capacity. We had a reservation at Teppan Edo and for 8 and my cousin's son decided to join us. They hadn't grouped us with a party of 2 so they were able to accommodate. If a restaurant is booked to capacity they may not be able to "pull over another chair".

Is there still a separate phone number for larger group dining? Or maybe call the restaurant directly? I'm not sure if either of there would work - just suggestions.

I had a similar situation a couple years ago. My father joined us last minute for a trip in May. We had about a 75% success rate on getting him added. Lunches and off peak meal times were obviously easier (We were successful at the extremely popular Le Celier, but it was an 11:30 am lunch reservation). More restrictive dining areas like Biergarten were the problem. Can't hurt to try, but I'd prepare 1 member of your party each reservation to have an alternate plan just in case.

Just had another thought... with the cancelation policy the way it is now, you'll need to be careful if you make additional ADRs, but then don't use them. You don't want to be charged for meals missed. (If you make ADRs for 1 or 2 at other places.)

That could be challenging. There are tables built for 8 that can't accommodate 9. In many cases, you would need a completely different table and 10-tops or 12-tops are pretty limited. Maybe they could separate you into two tables if they have space.

The problem you have is 8 becoming 9.
8 is two tables slotted together, 9 is a third table being utilised and if there's no availability the restaurant can't seat you (unless they can but a chair at one end which then cramps everyone).
Your best bet is to arrive on time and see what (if anything can be arranged - and this could mean you waiting for quite some time). Alternatively, somebody dines alone, elsewhere

I have a thought on this predicament, Disneymom201. Take your party of 9 to the appropriate restaurant, but walk in groups of two or three. Next, gently escort your sister-in-law's mother to the nearest vending cart on the main walkway. Buy her some popcorn, soda, hot dog, etc., and then seat her at the nearest bench while saying, "sit here while I get the rest of the gang together". Cautiously proceed to the restaurant and enjoy a lovely meal with everyone at your table for eight, and then casually stroll outside with your biggest party smile and say to your sister-in-law's mother, "Hey, good news, I found everyone. They're not hungry, so let's all go to the next attraction!", all the while remaining cheerful, yea, gleeful in your tone. Later, offer to treat her to a churro.

Your'e welcome.

Are there any in your party in a high chair? If so, I bet it won't be an issue because they don't really take up a seat anyway.

We have added a person to our reservation at the podium, but we were an odd number going to an even number (7 to 8) so it didn't make a difference. I think the jump from 8 to 9 will be an issue unless you have a baby as mentioned above.
