Wow just the other day I was wondering why a movie about Walt Disney's life hadn't been made yet. I'm confident it'll happen eventually. That poster is well done though I must say. Cool find.

They're making a film about the filming of Mary Poppins and Tom Hanks is playing Walt. The script is very, very highly rated. Very good reviews on it.

There's a script floating around called The Imagineer about Walt, but I don't know much about it in regards to how close it is to being made.

The one in the link isn't real.

Yes, unfortunately the poster is not real. The artist who created it, Pascal Witaszek has said it is the movie he would like to see but there are no plans for Ron Howard to make or for Ryan Gosling to star in any movie about Walt.

The Tom Hanks film - Saving Mr. Banks is still a rumour but hopefully...

It's more than a rumor, he's deep into negotiations for the part.

I consider negotioations to still be in the rumour phase. It's been 3 years so far "negotiating" that one and they still haven't signed Tom Hanks or Emma Thompson. I have yet to see anything that says the two have signed on. Everything I have seen is that they are "likely" to play those parts that they are "considering" the roles and that they are "in talks"

Disney finally bought the script, thank goodness since it's been in circulation since 2009 with other studios looking at it. Imagine it being made by Universal!

I hope it does happen but until I have heard Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson say they will be in this movie...I'm not holding my breath

We just have different views of what rumors are in this context. It's considered a rumor when names are circulating. It isn't a rumor when they are, in fact, negotiating.

Fallen Angel, you can't always go by IMDB, in a lot of ways it's like wikipedia in who edits the pages. They miss a lot of stuff.

Walt himself is an icon for the company. His face can be recognized instantly by anyone of any generation. Having an actor to portray him is a route that may not be so healthy for the Walt Disney Company. It shouldn't ever happen in my opinion.

I guess I just mean that until the movie gets made I won't be holding my breath. The amount of movies that don't get made or get made but don't get seen is just too great to bother getting excited for a film in the earliest stages. Especially when no one has signed anything. If we went by people who "almost" signed half the cast of Lord of the Rings would be different than we know it today.

Even the article you linked to says he's "getting serious" and will "potentially" star with Emma Thompson and that is all that I've seen on most sites. They stop just short of saying that he signed anything because I don't believe he has yet.

This one says he is "set" and "likely to star..."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/apr/11/tom-hanks-walt-disney-mary-poppins

IMDB says he's "close" to signing
http://www.imdb.com/news/ni26013968/

Here, they're "in talks"
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tom-hanks-emma-thompson-saving-mr-banks-disney-309716

It's just the corporate mumbo jumbo which washes down to the fact that no one has signed on yet.

I just mean until I hear Tom Hanks say from his very own lips that he will star in this movie and that it is being filmed than I consider it a rumoured release meaning the movie is not in production, the stars have not been cast and there have been no potential dates of start or release...however, if you DO have any faith in IMDB (which I generally think of as just Wikipedia for movies) they say in the IMDB page for the film that it IS starring Tom Hanks and that Emma Thompson is "rumoured"

I hope it happens...just waiting for things to be confirmed until I get too excited about it.

You may in fact be right, I prefer to think that if they cast the right actor for the role, then it will be a great movie. Tom Hanks is not the right person for the role.

They need someone that can portray Walt as he really was in true life. Someone that can use the media to full advantage. Al Pacino would be a great choice.

I've read probably most of the books that have come out about Walt's life and there are some striking negative views of him. Even within some of the interviews with those who worked with him there are some rough spots detailed. I hope it's a movie that will portray him in a fair light and people realize that tough times can sometimes affect personalities and dictate tough decisions.
