Norway: Maelstrom- off the wall question

I went to the parks today on a date, and did a lot of AK which I hadn't seen before, then headed to EPCOT.

I have noticed this part of the Maelstrom ride before but never paid much attention to it.

As you're starting to go backwards, on the right side is a big picture of what looks a lot like the emerald city from the wizard of oz, although it looks a bit different.

Does anyone know what it's supposed to represent?

I wish you would have asked this question last week so I could have looked last Sunday, when I was there. I am very curious to hear the answer.

I know what you're talking about, but unfortunately I don't know diddly about what it's supposed to represent. The first couple of times I saw it I thought it was Cinderella's castle. :hammer:

I believe it is based on the orginial Norwegian Folktales by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe. That specific piece of artwork castle section on the right side is I think anyway, made to look like Norway's highly regarded traditional artists of folk tales, Erik Werenskiold and Theador Kittelsen.
Which story exactly I am not sure, it could be The Golden Castle that Hung in the Air, or Soria Maria Castle or several other of the tales or troll stories.
Anyway you can get more of an idea for it by checking out the book Norwegian Folktales from pantheon books.
Sorry didnt mean to go into a whole spiel about it but just a little background on where I believe the concept for that right side came from.
