Touchbacks being brought to 25-yard line for a simple reason: to discourage kickoff returns, which NFL deems the most dangerous play in game

and this:

Ejections for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and touchbacks being brought out to 25-yard line are one-year experiments.

And to promote more scoring. Because we all know the NFL hates defense these days.

This will discourage returns, but it may discourage kickers from kicking it into or through the end zone, to try to force more returns. So overall it may not have much effect on the number of returns.

If they want to discourage returns, just eliminate kickoffs.

A report out of St. Louis is saying that the NFL and the Rams agreed in 2014 that if the Rams drafted Michael Sam, they would not have to appear on Hard Knocks that year. Interesting.
