But they are protecting us! We should be willing to do anything they ask because it's in the name of safety!

...ack, I tried...but alas I cannot even do it justice with sarcasm how stupid some folks sound about this.

Metal detectors could work.... If they screened everyone as opposed to a random sampling.

I'd love to know if they've found anything but unfortunately you cannot view OCSO arrest records by arrest location.

Single young men are statistically more likely to be ne'er-do-wells.

HEY! That's an unfair stereotype. ... Many of us are bounders, and a few are cads. A small handful are even rakish rapscallions.

Not to mention hoodlums, hooligans and ruffians!

God help us if a wastrel ever gets through WDW security!
Uh.... guys.... why are we talking of my extended family here ? ;)

But seriously, I got selected three times in total, and only ONCE was it at Magic Kingdom {the rest of the time it was all at Epcot} Dont get me wrong, I feel no safer with the things, but if they're gonna stay, THEME THEM PROPERLY, though I will admit, when I came back to Epcot after lunch the Security guard who selected me earlier recognised me and actually took me on his arm to the scan through for my magicband, he was a really nice old fellow too!! Like a little escort from bag check to turnstile!

In the words of Mel Brooks, "its good to be Queen"

Only if you're name is Sir Patrick Stewart... ;)

But seriously, I did set the thing off once, all that loose change, the security guard saw the HUGE handful at DHS and smiled and handed me my phones like "Best you get in there quick!" I will say this though, the third time I was selected it was the CSC guys running thing, but it was a security guard that selected me at the time {same wonderful man who took me on his arm when I came back to Epcot after lunch! If only I had taken down his name, he was so sweet!!}

I was in awe at the new metal detectors that every patron went through at the Chicago Auto Show. The volume of patrons going through machines one lined up after the other in a row similar to Magic Band style entry to the Parks. The volume of guests was about the same as the Studio's at opening. Pretty amazing. I could easily imagine the Parks implementing similar entry security and being able to pull it off with little disruption if any to clearing guests into the parks.

I'm not so sure about the "random sampling" thing. I go to one of the parks at least once a week and most times I'm by myself. Each time I've gone solo since they put the metal detectors up, they've nabbed me to walk through it. The times I've gone with other people, I haven't been chosen. I've gone enough times since the metal detectors went up that I really don't feel like it's a coincidence at this point.

I spent some time at the front of the park the other day waiting to meet up with someone and watched this for quite a while. I'm now 100% confident I will never have to go through the metal detectors unless I choose too, it's not random at all and the pattern is easily avoidable.

I know that it is an oxymoron to say this, but many places that do these searches call the selection of "every x amount of people" a random selection. I know it is not a random selection when done that way but they use the term random to keep from sounding like they are targeting (or profiling) people.

Since doing a strip search and body cavity check is out of the question, the Security Team has no doubt been trained to observe for certain traits which are potential indicators of people with nefarious intentions.
In short, they are profiling everyone and picking out those who fit into the "caution" category.
They will deny this vehemently and claim to check a random sampling of guests but the fact remains that there isn't sufficient man/woman power to check everyone and time spent checking certain types of guests could lead to possibly missing a person who is truly intent on causing havoc in the parks.

So would you say you were conducting surveillance of the security procedures?
