Never realized how bad Splash Mountain was in

I didn't really realize how bad it was either until this refurb. I wonder if anyone could make a pre refurb then post refurb side by side? That would be pretty cool
Splash Mountain was in really bad shape. We rode it last Thanksgiving. We got off the attraction and my kids said to me, "Dad, what happened?" It made me wonder if WDW had given up on any Splash Mountain maintenance, knowing it was going in for a major overhaul.

In over 30 years of visiting, it was the first time I ever felt WDW had sunk to Six Flags lows.

Tell me about it... It wasn't bad... It was in horrible condition. I rode it last November with those bloody tarps up!! The ride stunk, and numerous effects were damaged. After looking at a few videos I was reminded on how utterly amazing the ride once was. Huge change. I hope they keep it up.

PPF needs to be updated desperately. It's a small world need to be drained, thoroughly cleaned, and repainted. It's starting to look shabby.
The hawaii Scene in its a small world needs to have its walls repainted, one of the dolls in mexico needs a new jewel eye and some of the ceiling tiles need to be replaced lol I have been making a mental list of what they need to fix in a refurb. Also peter pan needs a refurb much more on the scale of haunted mansions 2007 refurb where the effects are updated.

Most of Universal is still under 15 years old with pretty much every attraction that was part of the original Universal Studios (opened in 1990) having been updated or replaced. Earthquake (is that the only original remaining attraction?) was rethemed in 2008. Twister, which some complain is dated, is only 15 years old.

Splash Mountain opened in 1992 and we all saw how much it had deteriorated. Much of WDW's infrastructure and many attractions are now reaching 30-to-40 years old and in need of serious maintenance. Whether Disney management likes it or not, WDW is aging and needs more funding for repair and upgrade.

And they look at us funny when we vets complain WDW used to be better!

Refurbs like this show the doom and gloom brigade is right. Many attractions are in deplorable condition. They slowly decline by degrees, so a lot of guests don't notice them deteriorating. Or they have never seen them in their heyday altogether. But when they are freshly painted, when everything works, then one sees what everybody is always going on about.

Splash was complete rubbish before this refurb. A waste of time. As are all of DAK's rides, minus the Safari (they could scarcely let the real animals die!), and much of the MK and EPCOT.

Ain't nothing worse than being told your full of crap when your memory tells you that you are 100% right.
I know right?

Bloody young whippersnappers, staring at us old folk in disbelief when we say that in the past you had to walk all the way from Lake Buena Vista to the MK, because there was no paved road yet. Which my parents had me do barefooted, because we couldn't afford shoes at that time. And this was before global warming, so outside of summer it snowed most of the time in Orlando.

I remember the times when you had to paddle your own logs through splash mountain

Theyres allot of times in Disney where someone will say "is that new" and I will say no, is was they're it was just broken. I didn't know the moths on the birds moved and even the things that did move had verry little movement. The ride looked so alive, I couldn't believe what I was watching. I never noticed the raccoon before. Is that crocodile singing again to?

I hadn't been on splash in a while (never want to get wet) and took a couple kids who had never been on it at all. I was so happy to share Splash with them...and Oh, my God, they thought I was nuts. We lost audio almost immediately so rode silently through what was just kind of a pathetic ride.

I think they thought all of Disney would suck. I had to buy them popcorn to get their spirits back up a bit, lol.

They a good time at WDW, of course, but starting with Splash was a mistake.

Can't wait to see it in better shape. :)
