Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

The best option is to blow up Hollywood Pictures Backlot and turn it into a sprawling city of super heroes from the Marvel funny books. While this will result in the destruction of the beloved perpetually walk-on or max 10-minute wait Monsters Inc., Frozen: Aladdin 2 and Award Weiners, it's necessary. Unfortunately, there's no way to retain any logic with the red car trolley.

Rumors floated have always included a Captain America coaster that is not a copy of the Tron coaster as some have said.

Based on Chapek's remarks at the MB opening this evening an announcement is imminent.

Here are Bob's exact words from tonight's Grand Opening Ceremony regarding Marvel Land...

"But it's [Mission: Breakout!] just the beginning of what will become an even bigger superhero presence at Disney's California Adventure. And with the strong partnership between Marvel and Walt Disney Imagineering, we're very excited of what's to come. And it is sure to please Marvel fans hungry for more magic at Disney parks."

They could change the trolley to an old train from the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway that Walt Disney worked on. The first part of Hollywood Land that it goes through could be themed to be 1920s or 30s California. Later on down the road near where the current Hollywood Studios gate sign is a large wooden painted wall facade is placed with a hole for people and the train to go through. On the other side is 1940s or 50s California or more specifically Los Angeles or Hollywood. Characters like Howard Stark and Agent Carter (she is in California on the second season of the show) could appear here.

As the train goes further down this street, it comes to another large wooden painted wall facade with a hole for people and the train to go through. On the other side is the modern town in Missouri shown in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. (The company that now owns the lines of the ATSF Railroad owns tracks closer to this area than the old ATSF Railroad's tracks.) This area would extend to where there is currently a Hollywood Studios gate sign. There would be a large painted wall with or without a hole for people to walk through. As the train turns right at the corner, it will have to either stop and go in reverse or have some way to go through there somehow. I'm not sure what kind of transition would be good to have to the Guardians tower if there would be any at all. I mentioned a possible transition in another post. It contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy 2:

"At least the street leading up to the tower could be themed to be the Missouri town shown in GOTG 2 or to be some street made to look like a town in Missouri for a film set. Before the street reaches the tower, the blue blob from the GOTG 2 movie could be constructed on the street. This could have a giant painting around it to help obstruct people's view of the tower. The blob could be either be made to be like the one from GOTG 2 or just some other blob from a movie that visitors are supposed to believe is part of a set from a movie that is filming on the street.

The blob could be big enough for a walkway to be constructed through it. The walkway could have a curve of some sort to it to help obstruct the view of people on the town side seeing to the side where the tower is or vice versa. This would be dependent on construction codes. I don't really know much about this stuff, but maybe not having a big straight opening would be a fire hazard or something.

Where the opening for the walkway comes out on the tower side would like another half of a big blob. It could look specifically like one of the blue blobs from the GOTG 2 movie. This could make sense in some aspects because according to GOTG 2, Ego the living planet caused blobs like this to erupt out of things he 'planted' into the ground on a large number of planets. One of the planets where he could have done this could be the one in which the tower with the Guardians is located."

The areas in Hollywood Land where there are gate signs that say Hollywood Studios could be changed to be large wooden painted walls that are themed to the respective theme of the area depending on the side of the wall. The Hollywood Studios area could be themed to be 1940s or 1950s New York City. Making it 1940s NYC might be more appealing because then it would more sense for someone dressed as Captain America to meet people. The Monster's Inc could be rethemed to be a ride that shows Captain America's story about how he became Captain America in New York City and chased after an assassin. The cars wouldn't need to be changed from being taxis for this. They might just have to be changed for the time period. It could also be changed to be part of ride that is part of some Captain America exhibition that shows some mission that Captain America went on during WW2, but it would take place before Captain America got frozen so it still makes sense for Captain America to appear outside. Muppets could be changed to be a Broadway theater. Peggy Carter and Howard Stark could also appear in this area.

Making this area to be in the 1940s might cause some problems with some of the things they like to do in this area however as it might seem weird to have some of the varying things they like to change in this area (like the area where they frequently show props from upcoming movies). Although they have had the Disney Jr. show in Hollywood Land before even though it's in an area themed to be like the 1920s apparently. Still having modern stuff in the stage area might seem strange. If this seems strange, they could make the Hollywood Studios area modern New York City. However, this wouldn't create a more gradual transition to an area themed to be around the modern. It could still make sense to have the Captain America ride in modern NYC.

If it's modern NYC it would make sense for other modern superheroes to appear. This doesn't leave much room for lots of superheroes, though. Maybe it could be themed after a specific area of NYC like Brooklyn where Captain America is from and an area elsewhere, like possibly in what is now a parking lot across the street from DCA, could be made to be like NYC in general or a more specific area of NYC.

The a bug's life area could be made to be an Ant-Man area which takes place in California during some time period modern or historical.

The reasoning for this train still being used over such a long time period is that it is done for show and isn't a regular passenger train.

What we're all waiting on, of course, is what "an even bigger superhero presence" means. Is it a unified themed land or a bunch of random attractions where Marvel Property is the only connection?

I hope they get rid of hollywood land and use that underutilized (and more redundant since buena vista street) space, and any captain america coaster is not anything like tron, rock 'n' roller coaster, or the mummy at universal; they scream cheap with all their neon cutouts flying by.
