He was nowhere near the Magic Kingdom.

Not entirely sure about that bit - the 'global development' part is where much of this Disney Parks dreck started.

Here is his 'official' bio from Disney

Michael A. Colglazier, a 25-year veteran of The Walt Disney Company, serves as president of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Michael oversees a workforce of 25,000 cast members at the 500-acre resort, which includes the world-famous Disneyland Park, the newly expanded Disney California Adventure Park, the classic Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Paradise Pier Hotel and Downtown Disney.
Prior to his current role, Michael served as vice president of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, where he led more than 3,000 cast members. During this time, Michael oversaw day-to-day operations and was instrumental in the initial planning and development stages of the new Avatar-themed experiences being planned for the park.

Prior to his role with Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Michael served as a vice president on the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts’ Global Development team where he was responsible for identifying new global growth and business opportunities for the Parks and Resorts segment. From 2003 to 2007, Michael served as vice president of Disney Photo Imaging, where he spearheaded the invention and growth of Disney’s “PhotoPass” service, creating an industry-changing, web-based business model that creates value from the millions of photos captured each year in Disney parks.

Well this puts things in perspective. New Fantasyland under construction at Disneyland in 1983.

How long did this take compared to the hub in MK?

What a great photo. It's sad that today you couldn't have that sort of situation as kids (and most likely their parents too) would be running over the barriers and into the construction sites. People seemed to have a lot more sense and respect for property in those days.

I'm not even sure you could legally have that sort of thing today. The proximity of those people to an active construction site would never be allowed today. At the very least its a lawsuit waiting to happen. At the most, guests in that proximity without hard hats may be illegal.

Here's a much better pic of the new brick pattern by OrlandoParks from their new update:

I think if they tried that now, you'd see nothing but bloggers lining the walls taking pictures to be breathlessly posted for our consumption. And we'd all be poring over the details and picking them apart for each and every clue to figure out what we'd eventually get.

Take for example that piece of equipment right in the middle of the shot. It looks like it could be a new Cars character. After all, if they're going to do fire fighting equipment, how long does it take them to do construction vehicles?

Have fun wading through the masses waiting for the parade on your way out.
I'll take the poorly themed bypass and be 2 beers in at the hotel bar by the time you make the ferry :p

So, by the time I hit the bar you'll be standing atop it, belting out the Kitchen Kabaret theme song?
