Magic Bands - no more "scout" fast pass retrievers?

In the past as soon as we got thru the turnstiles I would collect my wife's and kids' tickets and zoom ahead of them to get the fast passes. Especially at DHS you'd often see individuals with stacks of tickets getting fast passes.

Now with the magic bands are we not going to be able to do this? Do the bands come off easily so one person can get fast passes for a group? (That might be a bad thing if they came off easily! I hold on to my kids' tickets all day so they don't lose them!)

How will this work? Will it be that everyone getting a fast pass will have to be at the fast pass post to get a fast pass?

Also, these bands would have to come off fairly easily. But isn't FastPass hoarding one of the things the Magicband is supposed to do away with? You shouldn't need to do that anymore.

You won't need to do that. You'll code each band to be managed by one online account. Then when you get FPs in the park, you will do so simply by signing onto your account, using either your smartphone or a kiosk. You'll claim FPs and then those FPs will be attached to each band. No need to go to the attraction to get FPs at all, I don't believe.

You shouldn't have needed to do it in the first place. When I hear people talk about Fastpass dying, this is the exact image that makes me hope they are right. I put this type of thing in the same category of waiting all the way until the last second to cut over into the lane instead of merging wayyyy back with the rest of us. Yeah you can do it, yeah it's legal, but it's kinda unsavory.

So you have never used a Fastpass?

If we use 'em within the allotted time indicated on the tickets I don't see what the problem is. Like JimboJones said, the alternative is my whole family (7 of us) stand in the TSMM fast pass line together. That doesn't sound like something anyone would want. Just crowds up the line even more than it already is.

Ahhhh... Thanks Burks and MichWolv... Interesting. So people with bands can't walk up to an attraction and get a fast pass? Wow... This is gonna change how we manage our touring a LOT.

That's what I understand from the info that Disney has released. Once you switch to RFID ticket media (band, card, or whatever form it takes), you use FP+ and not regular FP. Eventually, everybody will have RFID ticket media and FP machines as we know them will disappear.

In any event, it'll make touring easier, because you never have to run across the park to get FPs.

I would want the family to get to the ride together, and then the dad/mom go over and get fastpasses, rather than the mad dash at the opening of the park. I stand by my original statement. Just my opinion.

Sorry, I'm not up to date on everything. Do you have to get a band? And how do you get one? We're going to Disney in a week and I know nothing about these bands. Disney never mentioned them.

from what i understand is disney resort guests get the bands at check in and if not staying at a resort you can get the cards at the gate. The cards do the same as the band, only no tan line?

We are cruising then staying with family for a few days after to go to MNSSHP & a day or two at the parks. I will book 180 days out for dining, but will I be able to pre-order my hoppers in order to do the fast pass+, or is it solely for those staying on property? This is the first year we are not staying on property and I'm starting to get nervous. We just can't afford to do both. Thx!

Disney has said once the program is all rolled out non resort guests can pay to upgrade to a Magic Band. No idea how much extra though.
Good to know, I guess when shelling out a premium I can't see spending more for the band but it seems a tiny bit better than the card. Maybe $5 at most but not much more.
