Legend of the Lost Trip Report (a 2010 tale)

Back in March of 2010 I was able to spend six glorious days in the magical world of Disney. It was awesome. I had a blast, and I rushed home to write a trip report about it, and I got pretty far along, until suddenly I was hired at a new job.

Prior to this point, I had been mostly unemployed for two years, so this was a big deal, and I dropped everything to get everything in order for the new job. Sadly, it was not to last, as I was let go after more than a month because of a dumb rule I didn't know existed. I wasn't even given a chance to fix the issue, rather I was abruptly let go.

Less than a month later, I was working full time at a bakery, and have been there ever since. So I forgot about my trip report, and the greatest adventure I took on the trip went untold. Until now.

And as a bit of catch-up, here is the last part of the report I posted, when I went to Animal Kingdom for the first time ever.

Day Five: Adventures in the Animal Kingdom

Getting up on Wenesday, we knew we had to hustle and get out of the door, because for the first time since arriving at the parks, we would not be spending any time during the day with my aunts and our cousin David. They were going to Magic Kingdom for the day, it seemed, and wouldn't make it over to Animal Kingdom. This meant that to do the rides we really wanted to do, we'd have to take advantage of FastPass, and have to do it as early as we could.

For some reason we were under the impression that the park opened at 9am, when it actually opened at 8am, but we only arrived a few mins after rope drop, and were able to fly over to Asia to get the FastPasses for our must do in the park, Expedition Everest...except first we have to rent a wheelchair for my sister, who injured herself the day before, and walking was painful. So we do that, and to Disney's credit, it took less than 3 mins from walking up to the desk to walking away with her in a chair.

Asia was our next stop, and if we weren't in a rush, I would have been so happy to just stroll through the Oasis, but we booked it as fast as we could to Asia. Once there, we discovered that there was a 20 min. wait for Expedition Everest, so we swooped into line and for once, we wanted the wait to be longer. The Museum they set up in the queue was spectacular and so well done.

Setting the stage for a monstrous encounter

The ride was...one of the best "ride" experiences of my life (Yeti in B-Mode be damned.) I sat next to my mom, and seeing her face when the car started going backwards was worth the entire price of admission. As soon as we got off the ride, I grabbed a FastPass to come back later, as did my sister.

Then we walked right on to Kali River Rapids (because it was sort of chilly. We didn't really think it through. Having heard that the ride was sort of Roulette, where one person gets the most wet, I was prepared for it to be me. That would just be my luck. Oddly, it wasn't. I got wet, to be sure, but really...my sister got the full force of it, much to her chagrin and the rest of the family's delight.

We then went through the Maharajah Jungle Trek and enjoyed that quite a bit, especially the tigers, despite them deciding it was time for a nice long nap. The komodo dragons weren't out though, which was kind of sad.

On our way out of the path, a Disney employee was passing out FastPasses to the shows in the area, speficially Flights of Wonder, so we took some for it, and went to the take out counter next to Yak and Yeti to get lunch. I wasn't all that hungry, so I got fries. Big mistake. That food looked so good. We then went to watch Flights of Wonder, which was spectacular. I wasn't expecting anything from it, but it was a well put together show (even the Disney-fied twist of the tour guide showing up) and very educational and entertaining.

Afterwords, me and my sister headed back to Everest for our FastPasses, but we got in a bit of a fight, she got angry at me, and she gave me her pass and went to Africa to meet my parents (who were having a drink over by the Tusker House) so, despite an angry moment...I got to ride Everest not once, but three times in one day, a busy day where the line was over an hour and a half. It was awesome. Thanks for getting angry at me, Sis!

Then we got in line (a very long line, probably the longest we had to wait in the whole trip) for the Kilimanjaro Safari, but in the end the line was worth it (and towards the end we were allowed to skip some of the line due to my sisters wheelchair) because the Safari was just awesome. I can even forgive the totally unneeded storyline they added just because the animals were so close. I was snapping pictures left and right.

Baby Giraffes. The best picture I took all vacation.

24861_380045237076_693747076_4427732_3273221_n.jpg

This is the second best picture. The guys came right up to the car to say hi.

We then went on Pangani Trail, which was fantastic. My camera didn't really help me get good pictures, but seeing the gorillas was so breathtakingly amazing. This truly is the best "zoo" in the world.

Then we rushed right over to Festival of the Lion King, which took a lot of energy, because the next show was starting just as we arrived in the theater. That show is great, but I feel it would have been nice to see the very beginning. Next time.

Afterwords, we headed over to Dino-Land to ride Dinosaur, which I liked, but that made me the only one in my family. My mom hated the bumpy, my dad's back hated it too, and my sister was grumpy. I was thrilled to see the running dinosaur working, because I had been told he wasn't working all the time. God, that gave me a bit of a scare.

At this point, We called it a day, after getting a drink. We were going to see Finding Nemo: The Musical, but...the next show was over an hour away, and we were all wiped, so we left the parks, went and got dinner at a Golden Corral right next to our hotel (we don't have them in our area, but we get the ads all the time, so we figured why not)

Then we headed back to the hotel, hit up our swimming pool, then relaxed and watched a movie. It was a good night, topping off an awesome day at what is now my favorite Disney park.

The only picture I was able to snap of the Tree of Life. God, I love that thing

Next: It's the last day in the parks, and I do something no human should ever try: Three of the parks in one day. Will I survive? Find out next time.

Several months later...

Here is the lost report from so long ago. It's probably the best day I had at the parks, and I had a smile on my face for most of the journey.

Day Six: The World Tour

The original plan that my family had when we went down was that we would spend five days at Disney, and the sixth and final day would be spent somewhere else, most likely Sea World.

I have no interest in Sea World. It's mostly Roller Coasters, which I don't often do, and so I decided that should that happen, I'd extend my Disney stay by one day and meet them at the end of the day.

This all changed on our second day in the parks. We had planned to stay at Epcot all day and catch Illuminations that night, but when torrental downpours made doing anything but being a puddle impossible, we called it a day and went back to our condo. It was then decided that the entire family
would extend out tickets (for the low low price of 3.19$ a ticket!) to a sixth day.

This sixth day would become my epic farewell to my favorite resort in the world, and I am so impressed that I pulled it off, espeically in Spring Break crowds.

---

We started at Epcot. My family had wanted to spend another day there. I did not. I had seen all I really wanted to on my first day there besides Test Track. We got in the single riders line, which was moving pretty fast and rode it. I don't think it lived up to my expectations, but I had a blast sitting next to the young kid who was next to me. He loved it, and made it a better experience for me. The loop at the end was insanity.

Spaceship Earth. Dutch Angles. Love.

After that, I decided to part ways with my family and pay on last visit to the Hollywood Tower Hotel, so I quickly booked it for the bus (Should have taken the boat, but I forgot about it until I got to the Studios) and enjoyed a nice little break.

24861_380045267076_693747076_4427738_6979843_n.jpg

I then rushed down Sunset Blvrd to get to the the Tower, and found a half an hour line, which was lovely. I was into the ride in twenty mins, but I don't mind a wait at Tower, because the queue is fantastic.

I love everything about this ride

While I was in line I found out that my aunts and cousin who were also in the park were at Beatuy and the Beast and had just been invited backstage to meet Belle and Beast. (I was actually on Tower when this happened, so I couldn't rush over to be there with them :()

I then agreed to meet them in the Magic Kingdom, but not before I stopped at the little sandwhich place next to the Brown Derby to get a drink. Very nice little place (starring rolls, I think)

Once I made it to the gate, I was on a bus in minutes, the timing just working out in my favor, and soon I was at the TTC and on a Monorail headed to MK.

24861_380045332076_693747076_4427751_1797002_n.jpg

Possibly the best picture I took all vacation

As I got off the monorail, I got a call from my aunt that they were at the TTC and would be right be hind me, and I told them I'd meet them in Fantasyland, as that's where my cousin's favorite rides reside. I took the train to Toontown, and enjoyed a leisurely stroll through Mickey's neighborhood, knowing it would be the last time I'd ever see it. I met up with them at Snow White and we rode that and Peter Pan in quick succession thanks to his Assistance pass, and then moved on to my favorite, Haunted Mansion which sealed me as his Disney friend (yay!) because he wants me to go back with him this year, just so we can ride Haunted Mansion.

24861_380045357076_693747076_4427756_7440470_n.jpg

Tomb Sweet Tomb.

Afterwords, we hit up Splash Mountain, and then took the train to Main Street. They invited me to join them for dinner at Tony's Town Square as they had a friend with them on their Dining Plan who ended up leaving for home a day early, so they had an extra credit for dinner. I was delighted to eat my fill and spend some time with them, just me and them.

24861_380045367076_693747076_4427758_7692960_n.jpg

We then parted ways for the last time of the vacation, and I explored Magic Kingdom for a few more hours. I went on Haunted Mansion for the last time, what I call my "goodbye to the family", and then tried to ride Big Thunder Mountain, but the line was just too long for me to make it to Epcot in time for Illuminations.

24861_380045437076_693747076_4427771_7872712_n.jpg

Caught her with her eyes open!

I then tried a Dole Whip for the first time, and enjoyed it as I enjoyed sunset on Main Street. It was beautiful.

Soon I was back at Epcot and sitting with my family watching the fireworks and enjoying the last hurrah of a very, very sweet vacation.

We went back to the condo, crashed, and then woke up so we could check out the next morning and head out to Orlando International, which while bittersweet, was also a relief. It was good to go home, but I am glad I went to Disney. Hopefully I'll be going back for a small extended weekend vacation in November.

I will now fill this thread with photos from my journeys, and I thank you for your time reading it, and if you've posted a trip report, thank you, as I adore reading them. Takes me back and makes me start planning my next trip.
