Hello, team members. This is the place where you can discuss, create and dream as you design your projects.
Alrighty everyone. Nice to be brainstorming with all of you!Alright, here we go.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@Basketbuddy101, @Brer Panther, @DSquared, @mickeyfan5534, @ScorpionX, @Perry2x2, @Flippin'Flounder, @JokersWild, @Sam4D23, @spacemt354, @IAmNotAHufflepuff and @MonorailRed...to thee, I offer my most humble welcome. You are about to enter a world unlike any other. Welcome to...the League of Dreamers.
In this game, you will all become part of a team of Imagineers led by a Head Imagineer for the creation of a brand-new Magic Kingdom located somewhere on this earth. The location doesn't matter. You've been asked by Disney to create a half-and-half unique and traditional Disneyland with plenty of twists and surprises throughout. As a whole, you'll be covering every land of the park, creating attractions, restaurants, sops, details and EVERYTHING ELSE you can find in a Disney park. It's basically Open Brainstorming at its finest.
In each round, you will have to work as a team to create each land. You're gonna have to really work together. I'm gonna start a special thread so you can work together and create each land. I'll judge each proposal on a 40 point scale based on the following rubric...
Creativity /10
Detail /10
Realism /10
Presentation /10
But, wait! There's more! Then...I'll ask the team members which two of you weren't pulling your weight. When the two are selected, you'll have to create something for the land, and whomever's is judged as the better is safe, and the other will unfortunately be eliminated.
This cycle will continue until we get to our final two, who will have to complete a final project in order to "inducted" into the League. The whole object is to make your way to the top of the ladder and prove yourself worthy of being inducted into the League of Dreamers.
Now, let's get on to your first challenge...
Land 1: Hollywood BoulevardThis will serve as your park's Main Street. You will have to base this land off of Hollywood Boulevard at DHS, as well as Hollywood Land at DCA. The following requirements are needed.
And that's it. Also, keep in mind: since this is the first round of the game, I won't eliminate any of you. This way, you can all get a sense of what gameplay will be like. This will be due on...Saturday, November 28th. Good luck to all 12 of you!
- Detail. It's all about detail. I really do appreciate reading everything down to the tiniest detail. Consider this when composing your project and please describe the look and atmosphere of as many bits of the land as possible.
- The Disneyland Railroad must be featured. However, here, I just want a description of the station.
- A method of transportation that goes up and down the street.
- Describe to me at least three shops and two restaurants.
- A ridethrough is also gonna be required: This land will be featuring a new version of The Great Movie Ride. You can use only a select few scenes from the version at DHS, but the rest will be all up to your imaginations. And of course, detail--exterior description, queue description, ride vehicle description and scenes in the ride.
- Most likely one of the most important aspects of the project is the inclusion and description of your park's castle. Make this the most BEAUTIFUL castle in all of the Disney continuum. I don't care what theme it has, just as long as it's beautiful and amazing.
Based on the prompt, if this is a "Magic Kingdom" park, I'm wondering why we are basing it off Hollywood? Wouldn't we want to base it off a traditional Main Street USA? I'm confused how the Disneyland Railroad fits into this if we are doing a Hollywood theme...unless I'm reading it wrong.
To start off with, I think that Hollywood Boulevard has many more theming opportunities than your average Main Street. The glitz and glamour of Hollywood can incorporate more attractions in a single immersive environment. With that in mind, I have developed a list of ideas that can be included in our Hollywood Boulevard...
Great to brainstorm with all of you very experienced Armchair Imagineers.
The park entrance can be similar to this (the North Hollywood Metro Station.).
On the sides of the escalators, there are wide pedestrian paths so large masses of people can enter the park at once soundly. The escalators would lead to the new Disneyland Railroad, which is actually an underground subway system , taking guests around Disneyland with relative ease.
.
. Like spacemt354 said, a trolley system for the land is a must, as it completely fits with the environment.
If it's a Hollywood theme...I think a trolley is a must for the required mode of transportation. Just seems like it fits..and I wish DHS had room for it.
. The Great Movie ride should focus on the evolution of film by focusing on milestone movies. Start off with a black and white film (Perhaps the Great Train Robbery or Steamboat Willie), to the first color films (The Wizard of Oz), and so on and so forth. Famous movies like Star Wars, Avatar, Titanic, Gone with the Wind, and 2001: A Space Oddesy should all get representation on our journey through the movies (Some other famous films might already have representation in the park, like maybe Snow White.).
The Great Movie Ride...well luckily we have Jokers to bounce ideas off of, but there are definitely more than a few films we can choose from that aren't represented in the current day GMR for scenes. Star Wars, The Godfather, etc. We could even place the scenes showing the progression of film itself. From black and white, to color, special effects, cgi, IMAX, and so on, just as a first thought.
There could be a version of the Hollywood Brown Derby located here as the park's main table service restaurant.
. The problem of adding a castle in this park is that the transition between Hollywood and a fantasy-like castle is a little jarring. We should add a Hollywood Garden separating Hollywood Boulevard and the castle to ease out the transition a little bit. The Partners Statue could be in the center of the gardens, acting as a center point for all the other paths leading to the other lands of the park. As for the design elements on the castle itself, I am not very good with architecture, so I could use assistance on that.
I think we should skip Wizard of Oz, as that is the biggest scene in the DHS ride, and I think we should keep it unique to DHS. Star Wars is a must, as it will probably have no representation elsewhere in the park.
Golden Mickeys in Hyperion Theater is a great idea! We could even make it so you can vote for who to win like on American Idol in DHS.
Flippin, although what you say about the Wizard of Oz is true, it is still one of the most famous films of all time and a milestone in the film industry, being one of the first and most famous color films. What we could do, is shorten the scene to incorpoate other films that won't have as much representation in the parks.
Totally agree with this, though I would place it at the end of the first act. It might get too boring for some to have half of a ride in black and white.I think we could put our own twist on Wizard of Oz. How cool would it be to have a bunch of black and white scenes at the beggining of the ride, then go into the Tornado Scene in the movie and land in "Color". Then the Rest of the Attraction is in color. Kind of like a key middle point in the ride instead of the "Finale"
I'm loving the idea for an update of The Golden Mickey's. I'm thinking maybe we mix Hong Kong's plot with the Cruise Line's length and make the dialogue gender neutral so it's not just a female host each time, much how like most awards shows have different hosts most of the time.
For reference's sake:
Cruise Line
Hong Kong
Hyperion Theatre could be cool, but I'm slightly iffy on Golden Mickeys. What if we imported Animagique?
Other than that, what about a completely original GMR? Maybe use some of the same movies but completely change scenes and order, like how MonorailRed said with the Wizard of Oz. And who's castle would this hypothetical Spanish castle belong to or are we just doing a generic castle?
Totally agree with the Spanish-style castle. The problem is figuring out which castle. Prince Eric's could possibly work, maybe. Dunno what else has that sort of architecture.
I think if we went that route...Snow White's Castle would be a good pick because it represents his first full length film at the end of the road...off in the distance...kinda like a representation of his future work coming to Cali. Just a thought. but I like the Spanish castle too.
Totally agree with this, though I would place it at the end of the first act. It might get too boring for some to have half of a ride in black and white.
Here's the Union Pacific railroad in the 1920s in Long Beach,Cali. Something like this except more open air could be cool. I'll have to do some more research, but it might be neat since the train travels around the whole park to have it be the exact type of train that Walt created Mickey Mouse on...because then it shows that everything you see all started with a mouse
Why does the Railway Station have to be themed towards a real railroad station?
Maybe we could even do a riff on Carthay Circle theater....As a train station.... That'd look pretty cool.
I think it would be fun to go off the traditional Disney model, but make it very Spanish. Make it ornate and overtly Spainsh/Romantic. Med. Revival meets Gothic Revival meets Disney.. Totally agree with the Spanish-style castle. The problem is figuring out which castle. Prince Eric's could possibly work, maybe. Dunno what else has that sort of architecture.
I agree. I would like to see big mosaic murals in the train station, but I don't like the idea of a subway train station...makes me feel like a rat.Not too sure on the Metro Station. I'm inclined to say that this should be based more on the Hollywood that Never Was, much like DHS and DCA, rather than modern Hollywood. I'd personally love to see like an edge of town simple Californian train station, if that makes any sense.
Yes, oh dear God yes to all of this.In terms of GMR, I would absolutely love to do it chronologically. That's something I've been trying to do for a while, actually. I would say start with Georges Melies, maybe even the Lumiere Brothers, and continue into Chaplin. I'd love to get either the Jazz Singer, or possibly even Modern Times as a bridge into the sound era. Then we can take it from there with classic movies that have had an impact on cinema.
I LOVE THIS.Great ideas everyone.
For the station and railroad...perhaps we could theme it as if the guests are Walt Disney when he traveled to Calfornia to start his career. The station could be lined with posters and ads like this from the early 1900s
Then we could have Hollywood Blvd be themed to what it would look like for Walt to have walked down a Calfornia Street...much like Main Street is themed to Walt's home town.
