"It's going to have floating mountains. It's pretty cool," says Cameron of "Pandora: The Land of Avatar," a new theme park area due to open at Florida's Walt Disney World in 2017.

That park name comes from the lips of James Cameron, who was present at the Hero Complex Film Festival on May 31, describing the theme park project in a little more detail.

"It's a land within the park but a land is not just a ride. There will be several rides and a number of other attractions. It's really just a place you're gonna wanna go and hang out," the director said, as reported by SlashFilm.

"It's gonna be gorgeous. Of course it's gonna be gorgeous at night and they're using every new trick, every new bit of technology that they've created."

Construction at Disney's Animal Kingdom park got underway in January 2014, with the finished attraction to incorporate a water ride, a flying simulation and nighttime events.

Cameron, who has "Avatar 2" due December 2016 and "Avatar 3" scheduled for December 2017, also spoke about the technical accomplishment involved in constructing animatronic models of the film's blue-skinned humanoids, the Na'vi.

"The animatronics for the Na'vi characters are gonna be fantastic. For example, their early animatronics would use 12 axis of motion and I think the most they've ever done was 32 axis recently," he recalled. "I think they're up to 64 just in the face of the Na'vi characters. So it's gonna be remarkable. [Disney] really see it as a major, major attraction."

And the question is where does this come from? I can only assume it is conjecture based on rumors on the author's part.

I would figure the info is from the disney blog info and the concept art. I think the water ride they are referring to is the boat ride?? The new night time show and safari were both mentioned in the post on the Disney blog, and that is probably the "night time" offerings they are referring to.

What I like is Cameron saying there will be several rides. If Cameron is saying this then I feel the boat ride hasn't been cancelled. I think Disney would keep him in the loop and if Disney changed the plans that Cameron signed off on, I'm sure he would fight to keep his vision intact.

Hold on.... What is said publicly by the head of a company and what is actually occurring behind the scenes are always different.

It isn't just a bunch of morons on here... Some have excellent connections directly to the halls of Imagineering.

True, but we are assuming Cameron has some sort of pull with this project. I have faith that what Cameron is saying and what we saw in the models is the final projects. Cameron's quotes are the most recent. Disney wouldn't go behind his back and change it up without his approval. It's his reputation on the line.
If this project is an epic fail...it will be James Cameron that gets mocked.
Cameron is going to make sure this is up to his standards.

How is it that people demand that everything that anonymous members of an internet forum post is guaranteed 'insider' information, but the word of the man who Disney had to get the approval of to do this 'land' and is working with WDI to make it happen is suspect? It seems that Cameron is as 'insider' as insiders can be.

Thats what I say but I'm wrong because of the 'reliable information from sources'. The land will open with more than 2 attractions IMO. These sources have been getting loads of stuff misinterpreted or wrong lately. Why should I trust them if there not reliable. Disney is not stupid enough to open a land with 1 ride. And if I'm wrong in 2017 then I'll gladly eat my words. But I have a feeling there'll be more than 1 ride.

Because "insiders" on message boards can post without a filter, someone like James Cameron cannot. For example if Disney and Cameron has a protracted back and forth over the budget for this project it's very unlikely they would ever say that publicly, but if the information leaked to insiders here they would post it. I am not saying Cameron is wrong about "several rides", just why you can't necessarily trust what someone in Cameron's position is saying.
