Trip Report **COMPLETED** It's My Mom's Birthday (and it's still a hot one)!

Hey guys, since I essentially failed at making a live TR I will be doing a real one :joyfull::joyfull: I give all you live trip reporters credit! I kept forgetting!! To be fair, though, I have my hands tied most of the time taking videos for my YouTube channel :)

Who?
I'm sure you know but it was my Mom (Mary) and I (Megan)!

When?
August 8 - 13, 2017

Where?
The Contemporary!

Why?
Today is my Mom's actual Birthday but she can't get off easily on Monday's since its her long day so we went earlier to celebrate her Birthday - ish :)

Day 1 - August 8, 2017
My Mom had to work a half day so I impatiently waited to leave for Disney . When she got home we checked our luggage, went for a walk and relaxed before my Dad got home to drive us to the airport.
The Gang was ready to go..:joyfull: We are weird I know!

We left for the Airport around 3:30, got there around 3:45, and we had our bags checked and went through security by 3:50 :p I love the Buffalo airport!
We were starving since neither of us ate anything but breakfast so we headed to the Anchor Bar (birthplace of chicken wings). (PS For anyone not from Buffalo who wants to visit and try chicken wings let me know...I can name at least 10 spots better than the Anchor Bar :p)

We split the appetizer sampler like we always do :) Boneless wings, chicken wings and mozzarella sticks. So healthy! ;)

After dinner we headed to our gate to wait for our flight. In the morning of this day there was a fatal hit and run right outside the airport which was sad enough but while we were waiting I found out it was one of my friend/co-worker's uncles. So sad :(. They still haven't found the guy driving the car either :(:(
We were watching the news while we waited to see if they had any leads and soon enough it was time to board the plane.

Day 1 continued
We had a very turbulent flight...I'm sure from all the lightening and whatever storm was in the area! It would not have been so bad if it didn't add about 20 minutes to the flight which is the worst when you just want to get to Disney (and when there are annoying people behind you on the plane )! Anyway we entertained ourselves with Neflix and Fixer Upper and soon we landed!
There was a smudge on the plane glass :)

Fonorail time!

Those fluorescent lights on the fonorail did not look good with my hair :p

Our flight landed before 10 but we still decided to get our luggage so that we wouldn't have to wait until late at night for it to come. We were still mad about it though...doesn't take that much time but still less time in Disney :joyfull::joyfull:

My Mom's face was pretend but this looks like I was actually annoyed about something :joyfull: (I think that woman next to me shoved me out of the way if I remember correctly).

I was a little nervous (as I always am) about our luggage showing up, especially since my Mom accidentally threw out the claim tickets  Luckily three pieces of Minnie luggage showed up and we were on our way. PS there was a guy next to me who had a black suitcase and he couldn't tell which was his. When he saw one of my suitcases he commented on how easy they are to spot!! Very true sir :)
Usual picture...

It was DEAD on the bottom floor where DME is!

Once I realized my Mom was taking pictures and not videos I had to pose :joyfull:

I actually anticipated a long wait for a bus, but we got escorted right on one!
IMG_4493.JPG

We did, however, wait quite a bit of time on the bus. Like my Mom said at least we were sitting so no big deal :) They ended up doing a hodge podge of resorts and the order was Grand Floridian, Bay Lake Tower, Contemporary, and finally Saratoga Springs. I felt bad for Saratoga Springs people...thats a long bus ride!
Almost a full moon!

Day 1 continued
This is a terrible picture of the welcome sign, but was the best I could get :)

Finally we arrived at the Contemporary! We had already gotten our room number so we made our way up to the 11th floor. As I said in my live-ish report I surprised my Mom with a theme park view for her Birthday! I was worried she would figure it out as we started walking down the hall towards Bay Lake Tower but she admits she is bad with directions and had no clue which side would be a theme park view :)
Anyway she walked in and immediately went to the door and exclaimed " WE CAN SEE THE CASTLE!" :joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: I told her it was a Birthday surprise for her :) I actually told her before the trip I had three surprises planned for her and this was one of the three.

I actually temporarily forgot I had upgraded to a theme park view because I saw this on the bed and before I saw that it said Welcome Back I had no clue where it came from and it distracted me :p:p

This was such a nice surprise! I have stayed at other hotels many times and never got a fancy plate of treats! Nice touch Contemporary! Of course we ate like 80% of it right away :)
The white chocolate was a monorail!!! SO CUTE!!!

Anyway, I did eventually point out the second Birthday surprise to my Mom :)
Flower, balloon and (more) candy :)

Mousekeeping knocked on our door at this point (it was 10:30 pm) for turn down service. We declined but she still gave us candy. Oh boy...more candy :joyfull::joyfull:
We had all these big plans for going to Epcot since it was open until 11 pm but with the flight taking longer, getting our luggage and the long DME ride it was already too late to go and we were tired so we just went to bed :joyfull:

Next up: Epcot Day!

The views from the Contemporary (MK side) are wonderful. I can't even remember how many years ago I stayed there for a few nights (to splurge--at least once in my life I had to stay at the Contemporary!), but I'll never forget the nighttime views toward the castle. Also, I loved getting up early in the morning, to sit on my balcony and watch the first monorail trains depart the station at MK. So glad you and your mom are staying there. Enjoy!

Ugh, I hated hearing the news of the hit & run, I go down Genesse all the time and I felt so sick about that happening :(

I'm actually laughing because in January I upgraded my room to a lake view (water?) at Beach Club, because it's my boyfriend's first trip... But I ruined the surprise since I know he wouldn't have even noticed, kinda like how your mom just thought that it was supposed to be like that :hilarious:
