Is the Great Movie Ride next?

Spiderman isn't their most popular. Iron-Man has replaced him , heck even Guardians of the Galaxy is now more popular. The other problem is that Universal isn't going to be able to add new rides to the park without approval from Disney. So your going to get to a point where the rides need replacing and it wont make sense to keep it.

Then you also have to factor in what Universal has access too IP .

They are restarting Jurassic Park franchise so they can expand rides on it.

Fast and the Furious is also a major IP

Then they have the Purge . They could make a horror section of their park. Classic Monsters and then more modern stuff like the purge. Halloween Horror nights is a big draw for them as it is.

Iron Man, the movie franchise, is indeed bigger than Spider-Man, but the comic based character of Spider-Man will remain one of, if not the, most recognizable characters ever. In any media format. Iron Man is enjoying the success of well written scripts with the best casting they probably could've done. Spider-Man is very alive and well in the consciousness of many, many young peoples world and Universal invests quite a bit of energy advertising and promoting to this very fact. In some ways, Iron Man MAY be (in the movie world, like so many things are) a fad, but Spider-Man, like Superman and Mickey Mouse have transcended trends to become part of our greater culture.

At what point will the rides need replacing? Maybe 25 years after WDW replaces Space Mountain, PotC and the Tea Cups?

Also, maybe I'm in the minority here but I'd rather Universal have the rights. If Disney got them we'd probably just get a crap attraction like a stage show or something at DHS and a bunch of M&Gs across the parks. I can't imagine Disney building something better than the Spider-Man ride at IoA anyways. I like things the way they are with Marvel, and I'm a huge Marvel fan boy.
Another great point. Spider-Man was a first of its kind ride when it opened and it's been made even better since the 4K update. Disney's first Marvel ride will be Star Tours with an Iron Man skin on it. Not to mention the rumor of Paris getting a Marvel makeover of their RnRC and a clone of that for DCA

Yes, here's what we would probably get from Disney...

Universal does not, and possibly never will have the nostalgia incentive to keep old rides around that Disney has.

On the other hand, launched B&Ms like Hulk are still modern, popular rides. I'm not sure what the recommended lifespan of a B&M is, but all their original Batman inverts they built for Six Flags are still operating. Universal would probably re-theme it rather than remove it.

Spider-Man is the most popular Marvel character and has been for a long, long time. Iron Man's popularity has grown since the movies, but his popularity is new and hasn't proven to be anything more than a fad.

Here is a list of the highest selling comic properties of all time, Spider-Man is the highest Marvel character and only behind Batman and Superman all time. http://whatculture.com/comics/9-best-selling-comic-series-time‏.php

You're seriously just basing this off films without realizing the brands go way beyond films.

Jurassic Park already exists in IOA and is too far from Marvel to expand over there. Fast and Furious has nothing on Marvel and how can they make a whole land on it? A horror land? Seriously? Give it a rest, Universal has no reason to drop Marvel.

I just meant that usually when a thread goes off the rails at all, it's usually people claiming that all of WDW is going to be Frozenland soon, so at least this is something different (even though still not the topic).

You must not read many other threads. People have Frozen paranoia, and any refurb or rebuild a frozen rumor is started

That's what I meant. Every thread is now a Frozen thread. So, I am going to stop saying that word so this doesn't become one as well.

So yeah... keep the Chinese Theater facade!!!

Your list doesn't matter. The phantom is on there but put any kid born after the 60s who he is and they will stare at you and laugh

What matters is whats relevant today. That is why Universal revamp the theme park. That's why dispite the Back to the future movies and Jaws being some of the biggest properties of the 70s and 80s they are erased from the parks.

Spiderman is popular but his popularity is waning despite hitting a peak on the late early 2000s. His book sales are down and the amount of books he is in is down. His movies are also doing worse.

Iron-man , Captain America , Got , Avengers are all whats popular now and universal can't build rides on them and Disney will continue to try and decrease the popularity of the properties they don't have full control over

Fast and the Furious is a Franchise that continues to grow with each one making more than the last . Horror goes to the roots of Universal as they have some of the most famous monster movies of all time and the purge is another franshise that continues to grow .
