If Disney World had taxi cabs...

...would you use them?

Now, I know that there are cab companies outside of WDW who will pick up & drop off within the world if anyone chooses to hire them. But there are also shuttle companies that you can use to get to and from the airport, and DME pretty much took away most of that business. So I wonder if WDW is ever going to consider and install a cab company strictly for shuttling guests to locations within WDW.

When I look at the number of threads that essentially ask "How do I get from Point A to Point B" when there is no direct bus or mode of transportation between the two...

When I hear about the number of people who worry about missing dinner because they have to travel from resort to resort, or who want to go to the Boardwalk one night but don't want to have to schlep alllll the way back to DTD late at night to get a bus back to their resort...

When I'm at a park and I see a ridiculous number of people waiting on buses to get to one particular resort at closing time...

Well, I start to wonder if it would behoove WDW to set up an intra-resort-complex-only cab company. Even if they just had a few of them to start, see if demand warrants more supply. I just think, even for people who swear by the bus system, there will be times when you're hot and exhausted, or in a major hurry, and you just say "eh, eff it, we're on vacation, let's get a cab." What probably precludes a lot of people from doing this is the wait to get a cab. After all, by the time a cab shows up, there might already be a bus ready to get you at least part of the way to your destination. Because the cabs would be stationed on-site, it could possibly take less time to get to you then an off-site company would.

If WDW had cabs, who'd use them? At least once in a while?

Now I haven't stayed at any of the luxury resorts, but I think they shoud have them for guests. As a "perk"

IMHO, I think I would use one. It would be nice to have your concierge arrange one for you so you could make you ADR.

Example: I had to get from the MK to DTD for dinner last Tues. Took me almost an hour. Hopped the monorail to the Contempory, then a bus to DTD.
I would have saved so much time just getting picked up at MK from a cab.

Imaginerring is currently working on a project that is 'taxi-like' in nature and is geared towards connecting all resorts on property.

Actually, wouldn't it be cool to have characters (except Stitch) driving them?Or have some cartoony-looking cars or the cars from Cars?!!!

Hmmmmm..............

Put me down as a yes to this....I would pay extra to have a shuttle bus or van that I could call from a park phone or cell phone as I am leaving a park, as long as the wait was say no more than 5 minutes.

I guess they could do this as either an addtional type of pass or a punch ticket that you could purchase just a certain number of "preferred express" trips. this would eliminate the drivers from handling cash.

I think they would be very successful if they could run a shuttle service simmilar to this from resorts to requested locations. I don't think they need to do park to park, but as a resort guest it could be a nice discounted rate perk.

Maybe $5 per person or something to get from place to place as long as you're staying at a resort and going to/from a resort.

I'd do it if I didn't have a car there. We have reservations at the Poly and are staying at BWV in July. We have to decide if we should extend our rental car agreement (we need a way to the airport anyway as ME isn't available for our situation) or if we should walk to Epcot, monorail to TTC and then monorail to Poly. OR - bus to MK, monoraill to TTC then to Poly. OR walk to Epcot and bus to Poly.... etc..... etc...

I'd pay $10 for my wife and I to get there no hassle.

We have used taxi service going back to POR from Boma. When it is late and we are going to have to transfer buses anyway, we were happy to pay the $15. I would do it again, infact I plan on using the taxi service next time from Boma.

You should never have a problem catching a taxi anywhere at WDW, except right outside MK. You still have to go to one of the Seven Seas Lagoon Resorts or TTC. Taxi's are very pricey, and unless you have urgent plans most people don't want tp pay $15.00 or $20.00 to get somewhere on property. If WDW does set up a pay shuttle service I think they will take a P.R. hit from a lot of folks. I think that's the main reason Disney's Magical Express is still free. Now a lot of people on this board know the Mouse is greedy, He just doesn't want to be perceived as such.

GREED IS GOOD...What we are talking about is an optional premium service. Not everyone would be willing to pay for, when they can ride the bus for free. But it would be cheaper then the taxi's. It all comes down to pay more get more.

I would use them only if I had to get somewhere at a moment's notice or if I was running late & didn't have time to wait for a bus.
It would also depend on how expensive it would be - probably a pretty penny!

Yes I understand that, but I don't see how Disney could make it much cheaper than the taxi fare is. Gas is going up nearly everyday now, and there's no end in sight. You would have to staff the service, and they already have an issue with staffing. That's why they keep farming out so many jobs at WDW now. WDW would have to apply for a whole different type of liscense to operate a taxi service, and I don't think it would be easy to get. Then we have the public relations issue. I just can't help but think it would blow up in their face. Greed may be good in the movies however when people start equating it to the Disney name, that's not good for the largest Magical family resort in the world. It might have worked when they first opened up but I think it's to late now. People love Magical Express because it's free. If they charged cheaper rates than Mears did I just think people would perceive WDW as trying to get more of their money. That's just my opinion on a hypothetical question.

Though I know taxis are readily available all over WDW, I've never really considered using them. Silly though it may be, I would consider using a "Disney" taxi service especially if I could charge it to my resort bill with my room card.

Do you think Disney taxicab drivers would be a reliable source for rumors?

Interesting post from 2007, considering the $15 service being implemented tomorrow (Dec. 7, 2016).
