Ft Wilderness to MK

My wife wants to do a horseback ride at Ft Wilderness and I am thinking about scheduling that on the day we arrive. The only firm plans I have for the day so far include arriving sometime between 9:30 and 11:30 AM and having supper at Epcot around 6-7 PM. So I'm thinking of doing a 1 PM horseback ride at Ft Wilderness and then taking the boat over to MK for a while before heading over to Epcot for supper and watching Illuminations.

So, is there a boat from FW to MK? I know there is one from WL, but do they share a dock, or do they each have one? I figure I could drive to Ft Wilderness on Sunday, do our stuff there, then take the boat to MK, then monorail to Epcot for supper and Illuminations, then take the bus from Epcot back to FW and get my van.

Either that, or I could leave my van parked at our resort (POR) and then take the bus to MK and then boat over to FW for the horseback ride but I'm afraid that would waste too much time as it would involve waiting for a boat TWICE instead of once if I just drive myself to FW.

Yes there is a boat, its the same one that goes to the WL. I like to use WDW transportation when I'm there whenever possible. We do use our own car when we will be out late though to avoid long, late bus lines. Either one of your plans would work.

Thanks. The only part of my plan that worries me is that it depends on what time we arrive, which depends on what time we hit the road Saturday morning, how many miles we get in Saturday before stopping for sleep, and how early of a start we get on Sunday to finish the last few hours of the trip. I'd hate to plan on arriving at 10ish and then end up pulling in at noonish. LOL

But at least I know now that there IS a boat from FW to MK.

If you do drive to and park at FW, just don't forget that you will have to take and internal FW bus from the stables, which are by the parking lot, to the boat landing. You will have no problem with an internal bus. You would probably be better off taking the bus from Epcot, as I don't think the MK lauch will still be running since it runs on MK time.

Maybe a plan for you would be to park at the TTC, take the boat from MK to FW when you arrive. Then you can use WDW transportation to get where you want to go and have options when you leave Epcot whether to take the Monorail or the bus back to the TTC.

Yet another permutation of transportation arrangements... :)

You could drive and park at the TTC, then take the direct bus that goes to Fort Wilderness from there (it stops at the Wilderness Lodge first). After the horses, boat over to the MK. Use the monorails to get to Epcot and then back to the TTC and your car at the end of the night.

The one catch with the bus from the TTC is that I think it only stops at the Settlement Depot, which is at the opposite end of the campground from the stables, which are at the Outpost Depot. The most direct bus from one depot to the other is the Orange route. But you'd have to get from one end to the other if you were taking the boat anyway...

You mean if I take the boat, the dock is at the opposite end from the stables?

Here's a map of Fort wilderness that might help:

Yes, the stables (settlement depot) are at the front (bottom right, number 10 on the map). But the internal busses run very very often, every few minutes, back and forth.

Thanks for the info.

So, whether I drive or take the Disney Bus, I will be entering at the bottom of the map by number 10, right? And that is where the stables are for the horseback ride, and the dock to the Magic Kingdom is up at the top of the map.

Now what about the horsedrawn carraige rides? Where do I go for that, same place? On another night, we plan to eat at Artist Point, then go to FW for a carraige ride. Where is the path that leads to WL on that map?

Carriage rides also begin at the other end near the marina...you could walk or take the boat from WL to FW.
I've never done the walk myself, but I believe it may be the excercise trail at the top of the map. I could be wrong.
But considering the marina is north, and WL is then west of FW, it that may be it?

So on that big map that you just posted, is it the trail marked number 15 that leads to the Wilderness Lodge?

Yes, that's the trail between WL and FW. It's a nice, wide path that runs parallel to the Disney-vehicles-only road that connects WL to FW.

Also, some non-internal buses drop off at the Settlement Depot (near the marina and carriage rides), others drop off at the Outpot Depot.
Settlement: Disney/MGM Studios, Wilderness Lodge, TTC.
Outpost: Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach, Epcot, Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon
