Disney Ends Partnership with Jerry Bruckheimer

The Walt Disney Co. has announced that it would not renew its first-look deal with producer Jerry Bruckheimer

Bruckheimer produced such hits for the studio as Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure, Armageddon, Con Air and The Rock.

The company said it will continue to focus on its branded properties from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

“Jerry is one of the most respected and prolific producers working in the motion picture industry, and we have had an incredibly successful collaboration over the past two decades and he is a friend to many of us here at Disney,” said Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn in a statement. “We will continue to work together in the future, and we look forward to seeing more of the films that have made Jerry Bruckheimer a Hollywood legend.”

Disney said it will keep working with Bruckheimer on the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

“I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at the Walt Disney Co. for over 20 years and the 27 movies we have made together,” said Bruckheimer. “The good news is we will continue working together on Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure and other projects we have developed together at the studio.”

Just read this post on WDW For Grownups. I'm confused... how do you say you've cut ties with him but go on to say he's still making other movies for us and probably will again in the future. That sure doesn't sound like cutting ties. LOL! I get the "why" behind this in that Lone Ranger completely flopped but every other movie he's done for them was a huge hit. I'd hate to be in "the industry."

Jerry had an exclusive deal with Disney. That has ended. His last hit was Pirates 4, but he also produced Prince of Persia and The Sorcerer's Apprentice, both of which were failures, although neither lost the kind of money that TLR did. If you recall, The Lone Ranger was stopped and started a couple of times due to budget concerns, and then went over budget anyway. Disney wrote off 190 million dollars. Pirates 5 is "delayed". I would be surprised to see Jerry work with Disney ever again. The story was softened to avoid embarrassment, but make no mistake about it........he was dismissed.

1) They are seriously making ANOTHER Pirates movie?

2) Con Air was Disney?
