STORYBOOK LAND CANAL BOATS
13-jpg.198758

Here is a quickie hand drawn effort to visualize a new trackless version of Storybook Land Canal Boats in the courtyard/garden space directly beyond the castle walls. Storybook Land sits alongside and compliments the Peoplemover-style Casey Jr. ride, which traverses all of Fantasyland. Meanwhile, Storybook Land summarizes Fantasyland in miniature, with quaint models depicting locations from dozens of Disney animated films. Looking over this plan, I'd like to incorporate more waterfalls and waterways feeding Storybook Land from other nearby attractions (such as the Pinocchio boat ride), really connect everything together.
14-jpg.198760

Casey Jr. is elevated overhead (it even passes over the canals). Storybook Land is sunken below the main walkways. Vantage points along the walkways provide partially-obscured views of the models below (assume more landscaping than drawn). The ride's layout mirrors Fantasyland as a whole; Toad Hall is located in the same location in Storybook Land as in Fantasyland, and so on. It's like a map of the land found at its entrance! Note the observation deck and stairs south of the ride (inspired by the castle in Paris).

Storybook Land Canal Boats use the DisneySea Aquatopia LPS ride system. Three-person boats continually load from a roofed dock and glide freely from one model scene to another. On-board speakers play Disney songs to go with the models. Each model has little scenes which play out for each boat. Using Neverland as an example, pixie dust sparkles and Hook's pirate ship flies up from the waters. The trackless boats will occasionally spin in place and dance around each other. Each boat visits each model, but in no set order. Add arcing water sprays and other fun decorative elements, and the total effect is very kinetic.

This is a solid C-ticket, to be sure, but a charming one, and I think a lovely introduction to the land.

Currently Untitled Princess Musical

“Pre-Show” / Load In Area -

Guests would start their experience in the outside holding area known as the “Village Square” whilst in this area, guests will have a chance to purchase show specific merchandise, as well as speciality food and beverage offerings. There are plenty of areas for guests to sit and relax whilst they wait to enter the amphitheatre. All surrounding buildings will be themed and styled to match the surrounding Fantasyland Area.

Guests views of the stage will be blocked by large castle walls, these will provide a great place to hide all of the technical control elements, as well as stage lighting and follow spots. 15mins before show time, the “gate keeper” will announce that the entry into the amphitheatre is now open.

Stage and Amphitheatre -

The amphitheatre itself is a combination of indoors and outdoors, the stage and all backstage areas will be housed in a large building, whereas the seating will be open aired, protected from the elements by a large tent/shade sail structure.

The stage will be built up of a large rock face on the right hand side of the stage, this will include trees and a working waterfall (this hides a special effect element). The left hand side of the stage will be made up of more village buildings, with a fountain of sorts in the centre. The “backdrop” to the stage will be a large multi format, LED Screen that will seperate into two different pieces to allow large set elements to enter the stage. This standard set will mainly be used for the narration, guest interaction and dialogue scenes.

For all IP specific dance/song numbers, a large sets & curtains will be flown in from the roof to allow the stage to change scene to scene. For example, during the Beauty and the Beast number, a red curtain with large golden windows will fly in, changing the look from a village, to beasts ball room.

Featured IP’s -
Beauty and the Beast
Brave
The Little Mermaid
Tangled
The Princess and the Frog

I am still working on adding more and more elements to the show, as well as more featured IP’s. Ideally the show would run for around 30mins.

Beauty and the Beast Show

upload_2017-3-14_21-14-15-png.193911

The entire show experience (from load to exit) would take 12 minutes, with the theaters rotating counterclockwise.

This design presumes a ride capacity of approximately 2,400 guests per hour (40 guests boarding ride vehicles per minute). For reference, the Little Mermaid ride at Magic Kingdom has a 2,200 capacity per hour.

The queue would bring guests to the entry doors for what is indicated as theater #1 on the drawing. After the guests take their seats, there would be a short intro before the theater begins to rotate to the next stage position. (Theater #4 would then be in the “load” position and it would fill up, etc.). All four of the theaters would be in continuous use.

The carousel would rotate a quarter-turn every three (3) minutes, exposing the guests to a new portion of the pre-show. After the guests have rotated to the 4th stage position, that portion of the show would also be short, and guests would then exit to the ride.

As shown on the design, each row of seating would be a spacious 36” with the top row even more spacious to accommodate wheelchairs. The depth of each theater would be approximately 30’ from stage to back wall.

Although I want to give a lot more thought to the pre-show (possibly waiting until I see the live action Beauty and the Beast movie this Friday), for the pre-show part 1, I’m envisioning a large-scale gilded book, a drawing of the Beast’s castle on the left side and the words “Once upon a time…” on the right side. In the short introductory segment at position #1, I would utilize rear projection technology to change the words/pictures on the book.

Pre-show part two, would continue the book theme, with video screens providing a more dynamic presentation and an AA figure of Cogsworth to provide narration.

Pre-show part three, would once again continue the book, with Mrs. Potts and Chip there to narrate.

In the final pre-show scene, I’m thinking Lumiere would appear with the representation of the rose with the falling petals, which is certainly the looming timekeeper of the story.
--------------------------------------------------
I previously outlined a pre-show set up like the Carousel of Progress (using only four theaters instead of COP's six). The theaters will revolve around a fixed stage, with rotation occurring every three minutes. The first and fourth stage "scenes" will be short (approximately 45 seconds) allowing the remaining time for guests to enter or exit. Once guests exit the pre-show they will board the ride for the attraction.

We previously discussed the idea of the ride confined to scenes in the castle. Therefore, in the pre-show, I hope to convey the information about the spell on the prince, the transformation of servants into household objects, the story of Belle and how Gaston would like to pursue her, how her father becomes a prisoner in the Beast's castle, and Belle arrives to save him.

We also discussed relying on the look of the characters from the animated movie to accomplish this attraction. However, the new live-action movie creates such wonderful images, that perhaps part of that "look" can be incorporated for physical settings.

STAGE ONE

Guests enter the first theater and take their seats to familiar introduction music from the film. The stage is curved, and at the edge of the stage is a castle wall complete with vines and a stained glass window in the center. It would look similar to this image:
upload_2017-3-24_9-23-37-png.195745

With forty-five seconds remaining before the rotation of the theater, the lights dim and a narrator gives a brief introduction. Using rear projection technique, the stained glass windows change to the three images displayed below, with the changes of the windows fitting the story of the narrator.

There once was a handsome prince who lived in a castle at the edge of a small village.
But one day a wicked enchantress arrived and put the prince under a spell.
She converted him into a hideous looking beast.
upload_2017-3-24_9-30-39-png.195746

The theater rotates to Stage Two, while the stained glass returns to the original image for the next set of arriving guests.

STAGE TWO

As the theater rotates to the second stage position, guests see another castle wall. It is an interior wall, and unlike Stage One, this wall is convex. In front of the wall is an audio animatronic of Cogsworth.
upload_2017-3-24_10-20-22-png.195754

and next to Cogsworth is a giant storybook, similar to the one pictured here:
upload_2017-3-24_10-23-37-png.195755

Over the course of three minutes, with the aid of the storybook, Cogsworth conveys the following information:
1. Not only was the prince transformed by the wicked enchantress, but all of the servants and household staff were transformed into objects.
2. He explains that he was once the butler.
3. He points to the storybook, which comes to life with the story of a girl, Belle, in a nearby village, who is enchanted by books.
4. She is thought of as strange.
5. Gaston has his sights set on her, and isn't happy when she rebuffs his attentions.
The storybook comes to life using video projection to unveil these elements of the story as recounted by Cogsworth.
Musical underscoring is played throughout.

upload_2017-3-24_11-11-42-png.195763

After three minutes, the theater revolves to the next scene.

STAGE THREE

The theater rotates to reveal a stage very similar to the last one. A concave Castle wall with a large storybook. In this scene, audioanimatronic figures of Mrs. Potts and Chip are on either side of the storybook. Musical underscoring is heard.
upload_2017-3-24_11-56-39-png.195782

Chip begins by asking his mother if they are always going to be "this way."
She explains that there is always hope. The curse will end when the beast learns to love and be loved in return.
Mrs. Potts tells chip about the girl who has come to the castle (at this point, the storybook shares the images of Belle coming to rescue her father, being discovered by the Beast, and taking her father's place).
She shares that this may be the only hope of reversing the curse. Perhaps the servants can convince him to give Belle a chance.
This segment ends with scenes of the rose in the West Wing, and Mrs. Potts explaining to Chip that they don't have much time. Once all of the rose petals have fallen the curse can never be reversed.

The theater rotates to the fourth stage.

STAGE FOUR

As the theater rotates, we see another castle wall with a stained glass window. The wall is concave this time, to provide room for an audioanimatronic of Lumiere:
upload_2017-3-24_12-9-53-png.195783

This is the theater from which guests will exit from the pre-show and line up to board the ride portion of the attraction. Therefore, there is only about 45 seconds of time.
The stained glass window this time is the image of the rose left behind by the wicked enchantress.
upload_2017-3-24_12-13-56-png.195784

Lumiere says, "Oh no, another rose petal has fallen. We will all be doomed." He shouts "off stage": "Cogsworth, did you see that? We must convince him. What if she is the one? She could be our only hope." He turns to the audience and says, "Come help us make Belle feel welcome."
Guests then exit the theater to Beast's Castle and the 2nd part of the attraction.

Bald Mountain Ride
16 of our doomed visitors load into a soul barge, a wooden ship meant to ferry it’s passengers to their final destination. The outside appears to be worn wood, notched, scratched, and aged; possibly made from the same oak as the barrels in the cellar of the Heroes’ Hall. These transports float in the eerie, almost glass-like water by the dock (loading area), which is made all the more unnerving by the sound of running water – and the occasional blood curdling scream – heard in the distance. The entirety of the lighting in this room is provided by the lanterns hanging upon the wall, and those on the back of each barge, emanating their dim, green, ethereal glow. The ghastly minions which helped guide the guests to their final seats now advise them of the following (after an appropriately frightening safety warning): “You’ll come to find the Cherning waters are the most tempting of all”.

With their restraints firmly in place, and their courage hanging by a thread, the anxious travelers grip their loved ones and the ride’s restraints with white knuckles, as they are set adrift. There is no turning back now, as the barge has already begun its steady march into the dark, cavernous abyss. The ferry is soon far too distant to benefit from the dim glow of the lanterns by the docks; guests are now solely reliant on what little light they can glean from the lantern along the back of their barge. Once their eyes have adjusted, they notice that their body of water is quickly narrowing, and the stalactites hanging from the ceiling appear to be closing in on the boat. That’s when the previously distant but growing sound of rushing water turns into the roar of a waterfall, as guests plummet into the depths below. Following rapid twists and turns through the cave, the now racing barge quickly begins to decelerate as it approaches a pristine, underground lake. This space has incredibly high ceilings, and must have a hole that leads to the surface, as moonlight is filtering in.

The light in the room allows guests to make out the barrels floating near them in this otherwise untouched natural wonder. Anxious visitors jump at the sound of a splash within the lake, but are reassured upon noticing it is nothing but a fish. As guests take in the incredible sight, hidden speakers within the barge quietly begin to hint at sounds of shifting rock; almost similar to the sounds one might imagine a statue coming to life would make. Unperturbed, guests on the barge begin to appreciate the beauty of their current surroundings, as they slowly drift underneath the skylight through which the moon is gracing their secret location. However, the second guests pass underneath the hole, the speakers begin to rumble! Our travelers snap out of their sense wonderment, and jerk their heads skyward, where something near the top of the mountain resembling a giant wing blocks out the very light from the moon. The light was only gone for but a few seconds; that being said, passengers feel their sense of foreboding instantly return.

The barges glide along to the end of the underground lake, and towards another dark (but short) river. This river leads the boats to one of six show rooms, which are actually water locks. From the six show rooms, using forced perspective, guests are given a different view of what appears to be a giant (but is actually medium sized) Chernobog animatronic calling them upwards with his mountainous claws. The locks – one showroom at a time – slowly carry the barge up, as the menacing villain tempts our riders to heed his call. Projected spirits race along the walls, hoping to be the first to fulfill their master’s beckoning. Green lights also emanate from the water which continuously lifts the barge towards its destination. Only two showrooms are able to see the Chernabog animatronic at a time, and he is only visible as they near the top of their lock.

Once the lock has fully filled, guests hear Elio Cyrus running towards Chernabog, and screaming that they must make their way to safety before it is too late. At this point, the barges have been locked into the roller coaster’s track. Without notice, the Chernabog’s soon to be victims see Elio flash into view with a quick burst of bright light! The arm Chernabog was using to summon our visitors quickly falls to his side, and the barge begins its race down the inside of the mountain. Dodging spirits and stalactites requires full attention as our barges wind, race, and corkscrew their way through the inside of the mountain at breakneck speed.

The barge slows down, and begins to transport our guests towards an exit from the mountain. They can even see the river which leads to the bridge at the entrance of Heroes’ Hall, and they assume the ride must be coming to an end. This makes the next moment all the more surprising: right before reaching the mountains exterior, the track ends, and the barges (along with the section of track they are on) begin lifting towards the top of the mountain – similar to Cobra’s Curse. At this point, guests looking up see a giant Chernabog animatronic conducting an orchestra of souls, as ghastly spirits race to his call. As guests near the top, our fiendish villain summons them with both arms, demanding that his prize does not escape him once more; it’s at that very moment when guests see Elio Cyrus walk out to their left and, with all the power he can muster, shout out: “CHERNABOG, I DEMAND YOU RELEASE THEM!” A blinding light emanates from our protagonist, and his distraction has served its purpose as Chernabog has returned to stone, and our elevator has connected to its track.

The guests are free from Chernabog’s ghoulish grasp, but their adventure only continues as their barge falls backwards through the track, racing inside and outside of Bald Mountain (all on the backside of the mountain, so as to not ruin the surprise) until they slow down and reach a dock along the river near the backside of the mountain. As our survivors disembark, they notice old signs alerting them that the townspeople planned to clear the caved in path; with their newly gained wisdom, our visitors can’t help but think it’s probably best that path remains blocked, and keeps the evil trapped within.

Villains Academy

Low key, track based dark ride
No height requirements
Each vehicle will be geared to hold 4 adults or potentially up to 6 people if small children are boarding.

Background
The World of Disney has been filled with countless villains over the years. Many have had their successes, but in the end they’ve ultimately failed. What happens to these ne ’r do wells though after their failed plans? Most are never heard from again with our last images of them doing hard labor or being banished into other realms, or teeny tiny living spaces.

After 25 years of piracy, poisoning and pilfering, enough was enough.
Established in the spring of 1962, the Disney Villains Academy officially opened its doors.
Mission Statement: To try and find happily ever after for everyone. Yes, we know, we have our work cut out for us.

Meet & Greet
Adjacent to the ride entry will be M&G with a small rotating cast of Disney Villains

Queue
The exterior of the attraction will be an older ivy covered building and similar styling to the Haunted Mansion nearby. Guests will enter through large covered archways that serve as both the front entrance of the academy and the starting point of the queue.

Along the way you’ll see some of the success stories (before and after picture of Prince John sucking his thumb and then a more regal Prince John). You’ll also pass through the Relic Room. Many of the villains tools of evil are stored here as a reminder of where they came from. Among the items displayed are Cruella’s smashed up roadster and the spinning wheel from Cinderella.

As you enter the latter portion of the queue you are greeted by a life size Dean Hardscrabble, the current head of the academy.

“Welcome to the Disney Villains Academy. I would thank you for coming, but I don’t have time for such nonsense. I’m here to ensure that these students are properly rehabilitated so that they can try and do some good in the world to rectify all of the problems they’ve caused. “

“We’ve had some successes over the years, and many of our graduates have gone on to do great things. We have a few though that have proven more difficult than others and after many…….many years, we still have work to do. “

“You are going to meet some of these students today, but beware, everything is not as it seems. While they appear to be on the right track, they are just as evil as ever and will stop at nothing to leave these gates. Be on guard at all times.”

“We’ve had to go above and beyond in our training for some of our students, so you may encounter a few parts of the academy that require a spell or two. Fear not, we’ve not lost one guest yet”

After the parting words from the Dean, guests will make their way to the loading area.

Ride
Synopsis: Visitors will be taking a tour of the academy, seeing many Disney Villains up close and personal. As a background story of the ride, Cruella/Horace/Jasper from 101 Dalmations are met early on and tag on with the tour to attempt an escape from the Academy.

Welcome to the Hinterlands. This buffet style restaurant is divided into four separately four rooms. These four rooms are Halloweentown, Independencetown, Christmastown, and lastly a rotating room of Valentinestown, Patricktown, or Thanksgivingtown. You may be wondering how is this possible to have either of the three towns in one room? The answer is that the room is decorated with projection screens and wallpapers that can change with the seasons. When the appropriate holiday season comes, the projections will switch to that theme. This way depending on the season there will be a different appearance to the room to add seasonal ambiance to the restaurant.

Entrance and Queue
queue.jpg

Guests enter CENTURY 22 via an open archway and immediately enter the queue area. Within the queue, guests see a wall to their right on which are quotes about the future (such as in the example to the left). Below is a sampling of quotes, but the idea is to project those quotes onto the wall using three different laser projectors so that each time a guest enters the pavilion they will encounter a different combination of quotes - infinite possibilities.

Music played in the queue, like the music activated on this web page, is from the Omnisphere portion of the original Horizons attractions. It is a futuristic sound, but those who have visited Horizons should immediately recognize the music and feel the connection.

On the left side of the queue (as guests enter) will be a floor to ceiling video wall. The wall will carry depictions of the technological innovations of the last 20 years, from boxy old TVs to new flat screen ones, dial phones to smart phones, email, social media, electronic games, etc. As the guest moves closer to entrance to the theater entrance, the display of images becomes nearly unrecognizable. The idea is to depict not only the flood of technology that has entered our lives in recent years, but to underscore a message of the attraction about the importance of quality of life issues for the future, of our controlling technology rather than allowing tech to overwhelm our lives.

From the queue, 120 guests at a time will be admitted to the Horizons Theater.

Our CENTURY 22 attraction consists of two parts, a theater presentation followed by a ride through full-scale representations of a futuristic vision. As guests leave the queue, they enter Horizons Theater, named after the original Epcot attraction. The theater is circular, with two halves, each with 120 seats. For the guests, the theater presentation is in two parts, with the theater rotating midway from the side facing a stage to one with an IMAX movie screen.
horizonstheater_orig.jpg

After guests enter the theater, they insert a card into a device in front of their seat where a screen comes to life. They then respond to a series of questions, including what is most important to them as they contemplate the future.

CENTURY 22 – Future Choice Survey

Tell us a little about yourself:

Gender:

Male Female

Age:

Under 18 19 – 30 30 – 50 Over 50

Current living status:

City Suburbs Rural

Thinking about YOUR future, what’s most important for you and your family?

A. Living in a safe, functioning community

B. Maintaining my health

C. Plenty of time for leisure and travel
__________
IF “A” is selected:

Guests would be shown several pictures and asked which of these visions for the future most appeals to them.

Depending on the responses to these questions, there would be one more set of pictures for guests to refine their choice of what most appeals to them – this time using interior home environment imagery.

IF “B” is selected:

Guests would be shown several pictures and asked which of these visions they had in mind when selecting the maintaining health choice.

Depending on the responses to these questions, there would be one more set of pictures for guests to refine their choice of refine their interest in their health.

IF “C” is selected:

Guests would first be asked to refine which of leisure or travel most appealed to them.

Those selecting “leisure” would be asked to further refine their choice by selecting from:

A. Sporting activities, B. Cultural activities, C. Individual pursuits such as reading, crossword puzzles, etc., D. Group pursuits such as games, socializing, etc.

Those selecting “travel” would be asked to further refine their choice by selecting from:

A. Cruising, B. Visiting parks, C. Partaking of the urban lifestyle, D. Relaxing beach setting

Guests will take the card with them, and later insert the data card into a slot in their ride vehicles. This will trigger a short video at the end of the ride personalizing their future vision. Unlike Spaceship Earth, they will see their choices displayed along with others in a multi-media presentation reflecting the diversity of our views about what we dream for in the future.

After completing the survey, a curtain will rise in front of guests revealing a stage with an audioanimatronic of Walt Disney. He stands in front of the original plans for the "Florida Project" and next to him is a model of his vision for Progress City. It looks very much like the picture at the top of this page. Mr. Disney offers a short presentation based on his 1966 vision for an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Although his vision was never fully realized, Epcot continues to inspire visitors about the future, and our pavilion is, in part, a salute to his role.

Here is the script for that presentation:

“Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland... the blessing of size. There's enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine. To the youngsters of today, I say believe in the future, the world is getting better; there still is plenty of opportunity.

“By far the most important part of our Florida Project…in fact, the heart of everything we’ll be doing in Disney World…will be our Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow! We call it EPCOT.”

“It’s like the city of tomorrow ought to be. EPCOT will be an experimental prototype community of tomorrow that will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.”

“I don’t believe there’s a challenge anywhere in the world that’s more important to people everywhere than finding solutions to the problems of our cities. But where do we begin… how do we start answering this great challenge? Well, we’re convinced we must start answering the public need... building a special kind of new community that will always be in a state of becoming. It will never cease to be a living blueprint of the future.”

HORIZONS THEATER ROTATES TO REVEAL AN IMAX SCREEN. GUESTS SEE A THREE MINUTE FILM SHOWCASING CURRENT ADVANCEMENTS IN COMMUNITY PLANNING, DESIGN, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY THAT HAVE THE POWER TO TRANSFORM THE FUTURE.

Narrator's voice: "You've shared a few of your aspirations for what the future might look like and heard Walt Disney's vision for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Whatever the future brings, we know that it will take what we've learned in the past and build on the achievements of the present. Our curiosity propels us to seek new and innovative ways of doing things, making our lives easier, healthier, and more productive. For example, DNA was first discovered in the 1860s, but its structure wasn't identified until 1953. Since then the work of the human genome project is producing practical information to help medical science."

"For example, scientists are experimenting with repairing human genes, a technique that could cure many medical problems. New surgical techniques with robotics are transforming surgery."

"While researchers are developing new ways to help people move their limbs, non-invasive testing techniques, and engineered replacements for human blood vessels. The advances made each day are encouraging for the longevity of human life."

"Along with advancements that may help prolong our lives, we see a future where the quality of our lives is equally important. Imagine human looking robots to help around the house. Greater emphasis on community design of parks and recreation facilities. And exploration of new and creative environments where we can live and work. It may sound far-fetched, but research is bringing these ideas to life today."

"With the world's population expected to be close to 10 billion by 2050, researchers are intensifying their search for ways to ensure sustainability, especially when it comes to energy. Rooftop solar tiles may be common place, cars and other transportation will run on hydrogen. We've even seen the prospect of cars driving themselves in a way that will minimize accidents."

"When we see what science and research is producing today, it's easy to envision a fantastic future."

"We invite you to join us on the next portion of Century 22 journey to see first hand what the future may hold for all of us."

GUESTS WILL LEAVE THE HORIZONS THEATER AND BOARD THEIR RIDE VEHICLES FOR A GLIMPSE AHEAD IN TIME>

------------------------------

Attraction Ride-Through

The ride vehicles you board are synced on an LPS trackless system that allow them to flow naturally throughout the scenes of the attraction. About midway through the ride, the trackless ride vehicles will enter into an "ascending room" where they will travel to Century 22, and see for themselves all of the inventions and technology that have shaped the next century.

The ascending room technology using a power lift system akin to that of Tower of Terror, but less intense, pushing guests up to the top floor of the pavilion, and then preparing for the 2nd half of the attraction as they descend back to the first floor of the pavilion.

Boarding Room

A calming voice-over states that:
Horizons 1 now departing - all guests proceed to the boarding area for pre-departure briefings.

Narrator: Glad you could make it on this exciting voyage into the future. We have so much to see and do, let's get started right away! We all know Walt Disney was a dreamer, a visionary, and those kinds of minds are what will propel us into the next century. Ideas that push the boundaries of human technology. From those inspirations of the past, we've built our present. Just take a look around at the cities of Tomorrow, today!

Scene 1 - City of Tomorrow, Today
p00s1b0v.jpg

Guests open up into a large foliage driven city with bustling city noises in the background

Narrator: Woah, take a look at this! Tianjin Eco-city is a collaborative project between the Chinese and Singaporean government that will house 350,000 people in a low-carbon, green environment around half the size of Manhattan by 2020. All going well, the team hope its model for building a sustainable city will provide the blueprint for future urbanization efforts in China, and other countries! Looks like the ideas of Epcot have lived on to create the wonders that surround us.

Scene 2 - Driverless Cars
The next scene traverses into one of the city streets where your trackless guided vehicles merge with incoming traffic (using both AAs and screen technology)
image-20150316-7070-x7cah3.jpg

Narrator: Check this out. Cars that drive themselves! Heck my grandparents can remember a time when the automobiles were a novelty. If you could get from New York to California in less than 7 days, boy, that was surely a luxury. Now you don't even have to do the work! Safe, compact, driverless cars are the new cat's meow these days, leading to a superhighway of interconnected safe travels on the ground, and maybe even one day, in the air!

On one of the screens to your left you see an easter egg to a flying car, which was referenced by the narrator.

Scene 3 - Computers, Automation, and Robotics
Going through a home in the City of Tomorrow, Today, you see robotic AAs cleaning the house (as an homage to the original attraction) and also how the modern home has changed with automation.
maxresdefault.jpg

Narrator: From driverless cars, to everything in daily life, automation has truly revolutionized the way we live our lives here on earth. Dusting and cleaning can now be done with a flick of a switch.

The classic Horizons music begins to play

Your vehicles progress through the house and into different rooms.

In one room, a girl sitting in her bedroom broadcasting a nightly show from her bedroom on her YouTube channel. You hear audio of her also skyping her friend in to be a guest on the show.

In the kitchen, a father in the kitchen trying to cook a turkey, but being taught by his online class to not increase the temperature too much (a homage to Carousel of Progress)

In the living room, a mother is having an automated dust-buster clean up for her, while she uses a remote control swiffer device to get hard to reach places above the mantle place.

Out in the backyard, a son is flying his drone across the grass and into the sky, taking videos and pictures of what he sees from above.

You focus on the drone and follow it up and up on a screen transition until you reach the next scene.

Scene 4 - Earth
The classic Horizons music fades away and faint piano music can be hear in the background as you look out onto our home planet, earth. The stars in the background on a large projection screen immerse the rides as they gaze off into the distance.

This scene is a large 360 dome that makes you feel as if you're actually in outer space.
Earth-Orbit-Wallpapers-7.jpg

Radio silence for about 30 seconds as you drift through space with stars all around you and the piano music faintly playing showing how lonely of a place the universe is, and how lucky we are to be looking down at our blue planet. No narration would do that justice.

Eventually after the moment of silence, to come to grips with where you are, the narrator comes back:

We have the ability, and responsibility, to bridge new gaps of innovation and technology on this earth. Our spaceship earth. The progress we make here together will shape how we as a civilization continue to live, work, and play together on this beatiful planet among the vast darkness of space.

You soon approach the ISS circling the earth.

You hear an onboard voice from the beginning of the ride calmly say
"Horizons 1...Century 22 awaits"

The music begins to swell. The trackless vehicles begin to load onto the pressure platform that will launch the vehicles up to the top of the pavilion.

Begin at 3:35

Narrator: Folks, now it's time for you to see what 22nd Century living could be like if we work together and build towards a brighter future.

The earth and the ISS begin to rotate faster and faster as you see the lit up city lights from above. It continues to rotate and rotate as the music swells and swells.
29529061813_6797c55422_o.jpg

Then...takeoff!

You fly by at the speed of light as billions of stars and galaxies twirl and fly around you, as you accelerate around the earth to head towards Century 22. Breezing through time, flashes around you brace for the ascent's ending as you slow down, the music begins to fade into monotone sounds, and the blackness of space swirls you around to face earth once more, as you transition into the future.

-------------
Based on your survery you took before the attraction began, your vehicles will travel into one of 3 areas to explore in the future.
Community Life
Health Life
Travel/Leisure.

You travel through the path where your choice was and continue the journey, now decades in the future.

A. Living in a safe, functioning community
27356425350_e1d937ca40_k.jpg

Traveling through cities of the future, what you have seen today has transformed into interconnected hubs of commerce and luxurious lifestyles. You travel through a colorful superhighway, see monorails and flying cars soaring overhead as traffic problems have been resolved. Rather than build more roads, why not just have flying cars on top of the roads? This tech has doubled the capacity for cars on the roads, leading to no traffic problems at all.

You see how safe communities are, with security and stability in the neighborhoods. And science taking a pivotal role in our ecosystems, daily lives, and planetary research.
27024112883_d44e4ece85_k.jpg

B. Maintaining my health
31238224725_ef13cd1168_b.jpg

For this, you travel into the human body, and go through the lining of blood vessels to see how modern medicine is working on ways to combat diseases.

You also go past a series on how robotics have helped shape the lives of people...from robotic arms to robotic surgeries to repair diseases without the need for large scale incisions.

C. Plenty of time for leisure and travel
p1639ay-goodss-160930.jpg

For travel we are traveling the cosmos, to a moon base on our moon and the moon of Europa. By the 22nd century, people will have colonized the moon, Mars, and Europa with vacation flights to and from those destinations on Virgin Galactic.

Guests can also fly around the world at a much quicker pace than before, using the earth's upper atmosphere as a propeller around the world.

Finale

upload_2017-4-30_20-23-28-png.202166

The ride concludes with a descent back down to the entrance/exit to the ride. Violin and orchestra music begins to play as we look at a montage of how the world has changed from the early parts of time, to where we are today, and where we will continue to go into Tomorrow.

The narrator's voice comes back...

Narrator: On behalf of Horizons 1, we hope you see how promising the future is. If you can dream it, you can do it. There is no obstacle that's in the way of progress, if we choose to believe in the promise of tomorrow....

You then proceed to the unloading area and disembark your vehicles.

An Adventure In Time

The Show:

The Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center - Exposition Hall:

Guests enter the main exposition hall of the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center, a large open space with floor to ceiling glass windows on the left, and exposition posters for such events as "Mission to Mars: History or Hoax?" And "XS-Tech Teleportation: Seize the Future" on the right, with planters and benches scattered throughout. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority looks into this hall from above, as guests are ushered into The Professor's booth.

The Preshow Stage:

As guests enter, they are greeted by BEN-E, the most advanced robotic simulation of intelligence, who has a quick demonstration of the professor's technology for the guests. He sits at a control panel, and is fumbling with the controls when guests enter. To either side of the control panel sits a time manipulation tube, and within each is an observation robot (SKP-1 and SKP-2), broadcasting a live feed of its vision to a screen behind the control panel. As the robots scan the room, showing the guests' faces on the screen, BEN-E introduces the professor's invention, describing the wondrous things it can achieve. He notes that he has a few destinations already planned out, and sends the two scouts off into the past and the future.

[Above: BEN-E]

With that, the lights dim, both tubes fill with smoke, and electricity flashes in the tubes. When the smoke clears and the lights return to normal, the two robots have disappeared, and their feeds on the screen have gone to static, with time/date indicators over the tubes flashing and changing. The first robot, SKP-1 arrives in the Jurassic period, it's feed displaying tropical foliage and a distant volcano. BEN-E explains that it is scouting around for landing locations, and takes it out to explore, locating a nest of Stegosaurus along the way. BEN-E then realises that the second robot is still moving forward through time, and pulls it out, a lot further into the future than intended. He proudly announces "the future!", but the location SKP-2 has arrived at is a post apocalyptic wasteland, with no living things in sight. The robot sets off to explore, finding nothing but rubble and dust. BEN-E initiates a lifeform scan, and finds a reading directly behind the robot. Turning it around, guests see a quick glimpse of a Morlock, before the feed switches to static.

[Above: Preshow Chamber]

BEN-E panics, and pulls both scouts back into the vortex. The lights flicker off, the tubes fill with smoke, and electricity flashes again. SKP-1 rematerialises intact, and begins scanning the room again. SKP-2, however, has been reduced to a pile of scrap metal, broken and sparking. BEN-E assures the guests that everything will be fine, and ushers them into the theatre.

Main Theatre - The Time Capsule:

As guests enter the time machine's passenger chamber, they see a central vortex induction coil, surrounded by 4 tiers of seats, each with a safety harness. On the walls behind the seats are a series of shutters, behind which lie CircleVision screens, and two large portholes on either side of the chamber. Below these screens are various vents, displays and machines, and above the guests heads are a series of supporting vaults. Between each vault is a metal mesh screen, above which are assorted pipes and tubes, and a maintenance catwalk. BEN-E appears on screens surrounding the top of the vortex induction coil, and encourages guests to move around the rows and fill every available seat. Once guests are seated, the harnesses lower onto their shoulders, the main lights are dimmed, and a series of spotlights illuminate the coil.

[Above: The Time Capsule]

BEN-E informs guests that they will first be visiting the Jurassic period, and that the scout robot has located a suitable landing site. He flicks a few switches on his panel, and the machine whirs into life. Lights flicker and fluctuate on the various pieces of machinery around the room, and the vortex induction coil begins to glow blue, as the containment tube fills with smoke. Electricity courses through the tube and the supporting ceiling vaults, and guests' seats rumble as time/date indicators tumble backwards rapidly. BEN-E suddenly realises that he forgot to compensate for the additional passengers, and boosts the power, inadvertently sending the chamber back too far. He opens the shutters, and the CircleVision screens show a fiery, molten world outside as the chamber begins to heat up. The guests have ended up at the birth of the planet, and BEN-E quickly attempts to send them forwards again.

[Above: The Time Capsule, In The Vortex]

When the shutters reopen, the environment outside is a lush, prehistoric jungle, with numerous animals flying over the capsule. A T-Rex is spotted a few metres away, and seems to be looking right at the capsule. BEN-E assures the guests that it can't see them, as the transpari-phase system is activated. Nevertheless, the T-Rex begins pacing towards the capsule, while an eye appears just outside the opposite porthole. With an ear-splitting roar, the chamber shakes and creaks, and smoke starts to pour out of one of the vents. BEN-E reactivates the machine, leaving the shutters open as it enters the vortex.

With the transpari-phase system functional again, BEN-E informs the guests that they are heading somewhere "more civilised", and they materialise at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle. They arrive a few years early, and BEN-E moves them forward 'slowly', so they can watch the Eiffel Tower being constructed outside. After watching Paris develop a little, they move to the 1964/65 New York World's Fair, and then EPCOT Center, watching both grow and develop around them, before BEN-E takes the guests into the future.

Unfortunately, BEN-E has loaded up the time co-ordinates from the second scout, and the capsule arrives in the post apocalyptic distant future. As the machine phases in, it begins to malfunction. The landing was not properly planned out, and so the machine phases into the same space occupied by a Morlock nest. Sparks fly, lights flicker, and the room begins to fill with smoke. A Morlock phases into the vortex induction coil containment tube, a few ceiling panels fall, allowing loose pipes and wires to dangle above guests' heads, and the lights go out completely. BEN-E is panicking, making a lot of noise and getting nothing done, while Morlocks roam the capsule. Binaural sounds, misters, warm air, water spray, seat vibration, and restraint motion all combine to create the illusion that the Morlocks are really there, while the occasional flash of light reveals one hanging onto the ceiling snarling at guests, or standing on the broken containment tube. Eventually, BEN-E gets the power working again, and pulls the capsule back into the vortex. The electricity flashing around the room catches the Morlocks, and they begin to screech until it causes them to explode, showering the guests with blood (water).

[Above: Development for Morlock]

The capsule arrives back in Central Florida, and the view out of the windows shows a fully functional Tomorrowland city, with the TTA and monorail whizzing around, and Space Mountain and the Astro Orbiter visible in the distance. The Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center is being constructed around the guests, and once complete, the capsule lands with a thud, and the lights flicker back on. The smoke begins to clear, and BEN-E lifts the restraints, wishing guests a happy trip onwards, and pleading them not to mention the "little detour". As guests leave the theatre, he can be heard muttering about how much this will cost to fix, and how much work he will have to put into it.

[Above: The Time Capsule, In The Future]

Exiting the theatre, guests will now enter either Mickey's Star Trader's or Merchant of Venus, depending on which theatre they entered, both of which now stock items based on the experience, and the characters of BEN-E and the Morlocks.

References and Easter Eggs:

Throughout the experience, there are many references to previous attractions. Firstly, when you enter the main Exposition Hall, there are posters on the wall advertising "Mission to Mars: History or Hoax?" and "XS-Tech Teleportation: Seize The Future", referencing Mission to Mars and ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, respectively. Then, BEN-E refers to himself as "the most advanced robotic simulation of intelligence, a reference to SIR, who hosted the preshow for Alien Encounter. The two scout robots in the preshow are named SKP-1 and SKP-2, in tribute to Skippy, who appeared in the two tubes in both preceding versions of the show. Finally, throughout the experience, many pipes, tubes, displays and panels are labelled with the following codes:
  • CL-NCH
  • LC-C
  • SP-LK
  • Fe-MS
  • GN-2
  • X-STK
  • ST-CH
  • L1-L0
  • M2M-75
  • F2-TM-71
  • AIT-16
See if you can work out what these reference for yourselves!

Realism:

The whole experience was designed to be something that Disney would realistically build, as opposed to a fantastic pipedream that has no chance of ever happening. Therefore, the layout was kept roughly the same, with only minor structural changes, and many show elements were retained from previous iterations of the attraction. The biggest structural change is the new glass wall for the Exposition Hall, followed by the new wall and ceiling structure for the two theatres. The preshow area is kept the same structurally, with a new copper and brass colour scheme to better fit the new story, a few new props, and a new TV monitor installed behind the control panel to display the two scout robots' feeds. BEN-E is a repurposed SIR / Sergeant 90210 animatronic, featuring a new head and body panelling.

Inside the theatre, the seating is the same, with enhanced effects and a new colour scheme. The teleportation tube now contains the vortex induction coil, and has a space at the base of the tube for the Morlock animatronic to rise from, along with another section of coil. This Morlock animatronic is a repurposed Stitch animatronic, and the Morlock hanging from the capsule ceiling is a newly built version of the same model, mounted onto a system whereby it can be swiftly lowered into and raised out of the theatre, allowing it to appear to scuttle around the ceiling vaults. The walls and ceiling of this theatre have been completely rebuilt to accommodate all of the assorted machinery, vents, ceiling vaults and panels, pipes and tubing, and the CircleVision screens and portholes necessary for the new story.

Technical Specification:

Preshow length: 5 minutes
Main show length: 12 minutes
Load / unload: 3 minutes
Theatre capacity: 162
Theoretical hourly capacity: 1296
Fastpass+: No
Ticket rating: C-Ticket
Height restriction: 40in (101cm)
Notice: This attraction may be too scary for young audiences

Other Notes:

The attraction would be the launching point for a return to the New Tomorrowland update that launched Alien Encounter, with the TTA now referencing buildings such as the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center, Tomorrowland Metropolis Science Center, and Rockettower Plaza again. This would provide a cohesive overall story to the area, and remove all of the characters and IPs that don't really belong in a futuristic spaceport city such as Tomorrowland.
