Chef Mickeys after AK

I made dining reservations at exactly 180 from our original datea. When fdd was released those dates changed slighly. We have a great dinner res for chef mickeys at 540 (on our original arrival day) but now that's the day we will be at AK (park closes at 7). I'm wondering the best option here. I know they are far apart but I've heard great things about CM (We've never be able to get a decent reservation time). We planned on AK being an easier/ shorter day based on other threads I've posted about our trip on here but I'm wondering if we are better off doing something a bit closer to AK? We are staying at ft. Wilderness cabins so I've been trying to figure out the best way to get to CM ( long bus ride from ak, or bus to ft.wilderness, boat to mk and then monorail? Both have perks-long bus ride might let my lo get a nap in, other option might be more fun for the kids????) Any advice is greatly welcome. I will say I'm a little hesitant to lose the reservation bc we don't come to disney very often and I'm not sure when we will be back and this restaurant has been on our list the last 3 trips. But if you seasoned vets thinks it's not worth the hassle, I may take your advice lol!!! ;)

I'm not sure on your travel dates, but with the new stuff in AK (Pandora opening soon), your AK day probably won't be as short as you think. You also would miss out on the night time activities happening at AK. Have you tried looking for another CM reservation? I personally would choose AK over CM and try to get a reservation for Tusker House.

Yeah I'm aware of Pandora but I wasn't sure if a 3 yr old and 2 6yr olds would get such a kick out of it. And it closes at 7 pm so i wasn't sure how dark it would be (isn't it supposed to be really cool at night). I'm still looking around for other cm res but they are all 905 or later. Our dates are sept 30-6th.

Park hours will probably be extended for Animal Kingdom. They've been extending slowly as Rivers of Light gets added to the calendar.

I don't think you understand the geography of what you're describing. The Contemporary and Ft. Wilderness are very close to one another, so you're not saving a "long bus ride" by going to Ft. Wilderness first and then transferring a bunch of times to get to the Contemporary. It's roughly a 25 minute bus ride either way, as you're traveling from the far Southwest corner of property to the far Northeast corner. The bus-boat-monorail scheme you concocted would take you at least an hour. Also, the Contemporary and Ft. Wilderness are connected by boat, so the Magic Kingdom has nothing to do with it.

What you want to do is very simple:
1. Bus directly from Animal Kingdom to the Contemporary (25 minutes)
2. After dinner, boat directly from the Contemporary to Ft. Wilderness (blue flag line).

Like I said we don't go often so off the top of my limited knowledge I thought it was gonna be a trek. I didn't know we could boat from wilderness to contemporary...that's good to know!! It makes me consider keeping the CM res even more...just because I think the kids will really enjoy it. I'll watch the park hours for AK. Right now, that day is the early magic hours for 8 am vs normal 9am. I need to lok on to AK more. The last I checked it out Pandora was getting ready to open and I hadn't read much past that. I've heard the rivers of light thing mentioned but honestly have no clue what it is.
PS is there somewhere i can get a really good map that might detail ft.wilderness and it's transportation. The ones I've see aren't really that helpful.

Sorry, wasn't thinking. We don't have small children. You're absolutely right.
Mine aren't small anymore, but we had enough years where it mattered lol. Now my 9yo is almost as big as me. They sure grow fast!

It's also fairly garbage for getting you to and from Ft. Wilderness. Probably the least Uber-able resort.
Very easy to get lost there. It is one I'd want to drive to/from myself or rent a golf cart to get around. Love the tranquility of it all though.

Yeah we have a golf cart reserved already. I'm just trying to figure out logistics with other places. I know when we get there it will make sensemble since it's always worked out that way... (gotta lay eyes on it iguess lol) but I'm just too excited about going!! But ak to cm isn't a terrible idea????

Yes that's probably our best bet. Depending on the kids we may end up at the cabin for a bit which now I know we can take the boat from the cabin to contemporary if need be!! I forget how the bus system works...all resorts have a few buses that are direct?

I think the part that I'm get intimidated by is the size of our resort. I know we have a golf cart but we've never had this many trasportation options. And this is the first trip longer than 3 days so we are really getting out to different areas we haven't been to before. We've always stayed at all star movies for 2 or 3 nights and just done MK.

Oh I just understood what you were saying. I didn't mean in would trek from ft.wilderness to AK just to get to contemporary. Lol...when I reread what I wrote it did sound that way!!

Direct to the parks? All of them that aren't boat/monorail have buses to the 4 main parks.
