B&W ToonTown

So I just had a decent idea that I think Imagineers would have fun with. What if they reimagined ToonTown but everything was black & white like the old classic cartoons? Oswald (just read from Drew that he is making an appearance in the parks) could resign there along with black and white versions of Mickey and everyone. Imagine seeing pictures of this area completely void of color except for what the guests bring in with them.

I think this would be an amazing idea. Other than the blue skies above, I think making sure you couldn't see any color while inside the area would be a new and interesting challenge for Disney.

So do you guys think it would be cool or would the lack of colorful things seem dull and boring to everyone?

I think it's a very cool idea. It could be neat if maybe it started out black and white then slowly throughout the day all the buildings gained color, kinda like that restaurant on the disney cruise.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Potentially visually stunning but it would be a pain in the to keep clean, as if youve owned a white or black car you will know.
For that reason Im out.

That would be an even better idea! Nothing a little colored lighting couldn't fix for the evenings. Didn't think about how hard it would be to see a black & white town at night.

Didn't think of cleaning, but I would hope if Disney were to tackle something like that they would have the smarts to clean the area very thoroughly at night, but... perhaps I give them too much credit.

Imagine all the bird poo... :hurl:

VERY cool idea!!!

And to OP: Swell idea, I love it.
If they DID build a B&W section, it would be a nice contrast to the otherwise colorful world that is WDW and the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! Now I'll just forward this on to Disney and it should show up in place of Pixie Hollow any day now... :lookaroun:lookaroun:lookaroun

The major focus towards the back of town would be a small boating port with a "Steamboat Willie" theme where you'd be able to meet Mickey and Pete. In the center of town would be a statue of Mickey at the helm (maybe a fountain?).

Heck, they could even move Barnstormer over and do it up so that it fits the "Plane Crazy" theme. Seems plausible, no?

Plus, everyone is happy. Disney saves money, fans have a home for Mickey, as well as getting a new-ish well designed ToonTown that focuses on the "good ole days" and has an interesting twist of the B&W to color transition.

It's a cool idea for a "retro" portion of Toon Town but not all of Toon Town. Plus kids are drawn to colorful things

I think this offers a unique idea and may intrigue some kids. I mean, pretty much ALL of WDW is colorful. Wouldn't a black & white area be something new and exciting for kids to see stand out? And with britlightyear's suggestion of making it transform into color at night may give two different atmosphere's in one area of the park. Like how Tomorrowland doesn't truly shine until after the sunsets and the neons come on.

Could also spark an appreciation for color in cartoons with the younger generations. Imagine Grandma & Grandpa walking through the park and all of the "back in my day" stories.

Well, I think your idea is pretty awesome. I think a lot of people would go for it. And just think of a black-and-white Mickey Mouse walkaround built in the old button-eyed style. PLUS Oswald. That would rock!!!!

Exactly! I think it would be amazing.

I guess they would have to have two sets of costumes if they did the color change at night, but it may not be too costly. I'm not sure how much one of those character costumes cost. Anyone have a rough idea? Just curious.

I don't think cost of the costumes would be the issue. They would get a lot of use out of them so they would last a bit of time, I think more the issue would be paying castmembers.

Now that you say that, it makes me think of any even more "magical" idea for the costumes!

What if each characters black & white costume was merged with a new type of technology that would slowly change to color as the town gained color as well? That way they'd only have to make one of each character and would only have to pay one CM. Although the costumes would be mroe costly but it would be worth it in my eyes. :D
