CHALLENGE 9: FLAMING DEATH! @Zweiland's SUBMISSION

Challenge 9
FLAMING DEATH!

Welcome back to Disney's California Adventure!

We're back in the same side of the park. This time though, is a little different.
You guys get to Change up the It's a Bugs Land Area!

Again, I'm giving you guys total creative freedom. Do what you want with it. Make an entire new land if you'd like!

Just make it so that guests will want to make that area a big part of their trip to DCA!

Due at Midnight.

The Solution
When I went to DCA this summer, A Bug's Land was my least favorite land.

It was well themed and everything, it just seemed... a bit... plasticky? I guess that's not really the right word; I don't know how to describe it.

I don't think the movie A Bug's Life even deserves a whole land to itself (I don't think Cars does either, but I will offer an exception since that land was terrific).

Anyway, back on topic. DCA 1.0 had a wonderful Golden Gate Bridge entrance that the monorail crossed over.

I think the Imagineers were right to take that away for version 2.0. Buena Vista Street certainly looks 100 times better.

However, I think California Adventure needs a bit of San Francisco back!

PRESENTING...

The Bay Area
The replacement for A Bug's Land will be called The Bay Area. It will be themed after San Francisco and the surrounding natural beauty.

MAP KEY
Golden Gate Bridge
Redwood Forest
Eucalyptus Forest
City Facades (actually yellow, but yellow text doesn't show up)
Sea Lions
Cable Cars
Escape from Alcatraz

Unfortunately, I didn't have much space to work with. I managed, however, to come up with the above map.

Golden Gate Bridge

No more monorail crossing :(, but still the same old Golden Gate. Dramatic music will play in the BGM as you cross under.

Redwood and Eucalyptus Forests
The 2 famous trees of Northern California! On the left you will find the redwoods.

And on the right, the eucalyptuses!

One of DCA's most peaceful spots, this is just a place to relax. Benches are provided. Perfect nap spot for toddlers!

Building Facades
These facades are the perfect backdrop for a perfect land. Not visible from Hollywood Land, they are somewhat 3 dimensional and are plastered along the south side of the Tower of Terror.

Cable Cars
The Cable Cars are a roller coaster based on the iconic SF streetcars.

Up and down through the hills of the city, past Coit Tower and down Lombard Street (see picture below), these cable cars run at a top speed of over 50 mph. Hey, it's a lot faster than Space Mountain!

Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world:

Oh, and this will be the facade for the Cable Cars:

Escape from Alcatraz
Join the Warden and his crew of police members as you try to prevent an escape by some of the most dangerous criminals of all time! This will be a fast paced LPS dark ride based on the 1946 Battle of Alcatraz, but it will remove most of the violent elements to make it suitable for all ages. The facade will look like the instantly recognizable cell house on Alcatraz Island.

Sea Lions
Animatronic creatures similar to the sea lions that lounge around Pier 39.

Challenge 9:

Superhero Suburbia:

Replacing Bug’s life and some of the cast parking will be an all new land for California Adventure: Superhero Suburbia. This land will feature the Disney superhero’s in the context of California. One half of the land will be themed to a suburb like the one in The Incredibles and found surrounding Los Angeles and other Cali cities. Here there will be the entrance to Mr. Incredible’s Mission, a family dark ride, and a quick service barbecue restaurant in the "backyard" of one of the homes. Guests then go through a tunnel bringing you to a city that has been attacked; there is rubble, smashed cars, etc. Rising above the rubble will be Stark Tower which serves as the entrance to the E Ticket thrill ride: The Avengers. Also in this land there will be gift shops and a meet and greet for Marvel Superheroes. The destroyed city fits the theme of California Adventure because of all the earthquakes that have and can happen in California.

Map:
1. The Adventures (E Ticket)
2. Mr. Incredible’s Mission (D Ticket)
a. Barbeque (QS)
b. Marvel Meet and Greet
c. Shop
d. Shop
i. Tunnel
ii Rubble Pile
iii. Destroyed Buildings
iv. Other houses

The Avengers (E Ticket): Uses Vekoma's Pandora's Box Technology to allow rides to fly between Physical Sets and Screens seeing their favorite Marvel Superheroes save the day from Invaders.

OK. It's a little bit harder in Safari than in Chrome, but here goes:

Hold your finger down on the desired image in the place where you found it online. Click "copy". Double click the URL bar, and click "paste." Double click the URL bar once again, and click "select all". Then click "copy".

Then go to your post in WDWMagic and paste the link into an image.

Challenge 9: Welcome to San Francisco!
GoldenGateBridge-001.jpg

When they first built A Bug's Land, it was for one specific reason; the park needed child/family friendly rides. Thus, this new land at Disney California Adventure contains 2 new rides; The Golden Highway, and the Bay Area Patrol; and centers around a recreation (to scale) of the Golden Gate bridge.

The Golden Highway - On this ride, little ones can ride along in retro, '60s hot rods with their families, traveling past some famous San Fran landmarks (built in scale), including scenes over the town's many hills, Lombard Street, and a special trip over the front and center Golden Gate Bridge.

Bay Area Patrol - In this new LPS attraction, using a similar system to Aquatopia at DisneySea, families must work together to hit targets, including buoys, lifeboats, life preservers, and more, with special water hoses, all while careening around the San Francisco Bay, beneath the beautiful bridge.

We hope you decide to visit San Francisco at Disney California Adventure soon! See you then!

Sorry I didn't posted tonight. I was planning to design a new Hollywood Boulevard, but then I realized its already there, and by that time, it was past midnight. But, great concepts by everyone, and I'll be back and better than ever for Challenge 10!
