There have been many threads about improving the Magic Kingdom, all to varying degrees of success, and I myself have contributed to many of them. Some of them, I have started myself. And now there have been numerous "new/next generation" threads about the Disney parks, the Magic Kingdom. This new thread is one of them.

    ---

    Welcome, one and all, to...

Many new attractions have been introduced and many others updated. And there are even a few surprises in store. Let's start at the beginning, as you enter the park, through Main Street U.S.A.

Approaching the entrance, you spot the great Main Street train station for the Walt Disney World Railroad, fronted by a wonderful floral design of Mickey Mouse:

Off to either side of the station, you pass through a tunnel into the park.

    Stay tuned!

Wonder what your going to do with the nighttime parade bring in Paint the Night, return Spectromagic or a new parade that mixes both parades?

It will probably be a version of the parade thought of here that is like "Spectromagic: Colors Combined".

Anyway, now let's go on into the park! Bear in mind, however, this is going to be less detailed, describing only what is changed and what has not.

On the right, you have the Town Square Theater with its Mickey meet-n-greet. However, you will notice that it is not just home to Mickey, but also Minnie and/or Pluto. Mickey may or may not have either of them with him in that spot. And the space next door is now home to meet-n-greets with Donald, Daisy and/or Goofy.

On the left, you have the firehouse, home (somewhat inexplicably) to the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game, which will be retained, but also somewhat updated and even become the theme of a video game! Further up, we have the Emporium.

Many MK improvement threads have described the return of the old-style Main Street lost to the expanded Emporium. Granted, it would be great if we could go back in time and stop this from happening, but unfortunately, it just doesn't seem particularly possible. It just seems too much of a hassle to undo the damage. So, for better or worse, the shopping remains more or less the same. However, the contents of the stores will now (again) be set up to represent their names. For example, Uptown Jewelers will sell jewelry and such, and The Chapeau will now sell solely hats. One section that has supposedly succumbed to the Emporium is now set up as a separate store again. It will be called the Main Street Mercantile, which is something of a mini-Barnes-and-Noble, and is the MK equivalent of Disneyland's 20th Century Music Co., with CDs, DVDs, and a spot to electronically procure old entertainment pieces, as well as, books. Another thing to be found are vinyl records, which have been making a comeback in recent years.

Over at the Main Street Cinema, it is now home to the Magic Kingdom's special "Walt Disney" exhibit. Between decentralization and the pressure from the upcoming Star Wars expansion at the Studios, One Man's Dream is now going to be broken into several smaller components and scattered to each of the parks, depending on the theme. In the case of the Magic Kingdom, the Cinema is now home to an exhibit on Disney parks, with an emphasis on Disneyland. A video on the history of the parks (to also play in the wait area at Disneyland's Opera House) plays on the screen at the back, while various exhibit pieces will rotate in and out.

Finally, towards the front of Main Street, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and Main Street Bake Shop sort merge, similar to Clarabelle's and Fiddler, Fifer and Practical's at DCA's Buena Vista Street.

I will finish Main Street next time, because there may be something to happen here!

What I'm about to post is a great attraction idea, but one that depends on a significant outcome. There will be one of two possibilities to happen in the park. This is one of them. This depends on whether or not the rumors are true and the Tomorrowland Terrace is replaced by an Astronomers Club...

    ---

At the far end of Main Street, as you look towards Tomorrowland, you notice something relatively unusual: the Tomorrowland Terrace and the Plaza Restaurant are gone!

In place of the two restaurants is a new attraction, located in a new Main Street Cinema, known simply as Mickey's Color Whirl (which is based on the concept for Mickey's Colorfully Timeless Twist: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/mickeys-colorfully-timeless-twist-feedback-welcome.904766/)! Here, Mickey, Donald and Goofy are hosting a film festival, but the source of the color has been stolen by Peg-Leg Pete, leaving everything black-and-white! You travel with the classic trio into the movie screen through the world of classic Mickey cartoons of the past, in ride vehicles mounted with special "Color Editors", paint brushes that can blast paint at scenery and such to restore their color.

Anyway, the second of the two outcomes will be posted in due time. The fireworks dessert party at the Tomorrowland Terrace will have been relocated across the way to the Crystal Palace.

Here's the (semi-)final rundown on Main Street U.S.A. (each in alphabetical order):

    ATTRACTIONS:
    Main Street Vehicles
    Mickey's Color Whirl
Walt Disney: One Man's Dream - Disneyland
    Walt Disney World Railroad

    ENTERTAINMENT:
    American Flag Retreat
    Dapper Dans
    Miscellaneous skits
    Parades
Town Square Theater Featuring Mickey and the Gang
    WDW Marching Band

    DINING:
    Casey's Corner
    Crystal Palace
Main Street Bake Shop/Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
    Tony's Town Square Restaurant

    SHOPPING:
    Box Office Gifts
    The Chapeau
    Crystal Arts
    Curtain Call Collectibles
    Disney Clothiers
    Emporium
    Main Street Chamber of Commerce
    Main Street Confectionery
    Main Street Mercantile
    Newsstand
    Uptown Jewelers

We'll be moving on next time!

Now, comes Adventureland! The Skipper's Canteen is all but open now, so we move on to the attractions. The Magic Carpets ride may or may not be removed, first off. The Tiki Room is fine as is. At least it will be for most of the year (this is a subtle hint of things to come)...

But the Jungle Cruise is now sharing some space with some a new E-ticket ride: an Indiana Jones water thrill ride hybrid dealie, which is found on its own thread here! Go there for more details: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...d-to-fire-mountain-open-brainstorming.908189/.

Next, the Swiss Family Robinson will receive an overhaul of sorts to a pirate theme, in deference to Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland, which had received a pirate overlay some time ago (though with the upcoming Star Wars land impacting their Rivers of America, it's anyone's guess how it will affect that). It is now something like the Pirates' Treetop Lair!

Speaking of pirates, the nearby Pirates of the Caribbean has received some updates! First, on the mast with the name on it, a familiar green parrot returns, perched below the crow's nest:

You then head on in, to discover that the music is now different. What is old is now new yet again: it's the original 1973 Pirate Arcade music, which had been removed some time ago in favor of music from Disneyland. But the spookier music is back now, perfect for setting up the mood of the ride to follow.

More on the ride to follow later. Stay tuned!

Arriving at the bateau load area, you set sail and head off. The Davy Jones waterfall will be relocated to directly above the single waterfall. In its place, is a brand-new vignette, featuring a character thought of for the ride, but ultimately scrapped a long time ago: a marooned pirate huckster named Honest Marooned Pete. He wears a long coat, which he continuously opens up, alternating between left and right. On his left, he reveals his wares: rings, necklaces, gold pins, and earrings, all of which he tries to hock to guests floating past in the boat. On his right, he has a map to the treasure where he found it and where the guests can find it. "Follow the X to the map, mateys!" he says. "Better hope ye find it afore those pirates invadin' the town do!"

Passing by Pete, you will hear the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" line accompanied by Paul Frees' "No fear have ye of evil curses..." line, remastered and played by way of a special set of speakers that will be installed to make the voice float around to various points of the room. Meanwhile, before you go past the ghost ship in the storm, you will see a new treasure trove scene similar to other rides out, but in this case, the skeleton would be created by way of an old Pepper's Ghost effect thought of for the ride way back when:

Blackbeard and his waterfall will become more HD (is that what you would call it?) and that's about it. This waterfall will be relocated directly above the actual waterfall you go down. I went with Blackbeard rather than Davy Jones so as to defer to Disneyland's version, which will have Davy Jones on the waterfall screen as usual.

This, of course, lands you in the "bombarding the fort" scene. Here, the dialog is almost left alone - "almost" in the sense that any mentions of Jack Sparrow will be removed from Barbossa's dialogue. If edited correctly, there won't be any worry about having to have Geoffrey Rush re-record more lines. For example, where previously he says, "Surrender Captain Jack Sparrow, or by thunder, we'll burn the city to the ground!", he now simply says, "Surrender, or by thunder...".

The well scene will lose its current dialogue and return to the old dialogue respectively. Jack will still remain hiding behind the dress-wearing mannequins. The new assumption is that rather than looking for Jack, the pirates are simply looking for the town's treasure. Jack, of course, who obviously isn't a part of the crew (Barbossa is presumably their captain after all) is secretly searching for the treasure himself, thus why he appears to have found it at the end of the ride.

In the auction scene is the addition of other new characters thought of long ago but, like Honest Marooned Pete, scrapped. These will help to make it different from Disneyland. These are two new pirates who, instead of cheering on the pirates who "wants the redhead", know their fellow pirates will have no chance at all with the redhead and instead try to put her down with wisecracks like "Her father's the tax collector!" or "But she don't drink!"

The chase scene will have a very controversial change: The pirates chasing ladies for love... again. That means that the Pooped Pirate will be back in action here, once again holding the frilly pink underskirt and bragging about the woman whom it belongs too. The terrified girl pokes her head out of the barrel and looks around, quickly lowering back down at the sight of the barking dog which grabs the Pooped Pirate's attention. The pirates and the ladies will chase each other around in circles.

What's that? Where's Jack, you say? Well, he's moved to the far left side of the scene. Here, a pirate has fallen asleep in a drunken stupor, the key to the town's treasure vault tightly gripped in one hand, and the map leading to it in his lap. On either side stands a horse and a goat, both in which walk a very sneaky Jack attempt to steal the map and key. Right as Jack is about to get it, the animals make noise, causing him to retract as the pirate makes some horrid noises in the form of snores. Jack goes back and, of course, the animals react. This never-ending sequence is guaranteed to garner a few laughs.

The burning town scene will now have a new sight: a rowboat with two very intoxicated pirates seated in it and filled to overflowing with rum bottles, including some in the water nearby. The fire effect will be made more realistic than ever, as not to allow the shadows of the flapping curtains to appear.

That's about it for the ride itself. The shop at the exit, known as "Pirate Bazaar" will be renamed "Buccaneer Bazaar". Its selection of pirate-themed items will remain, but expanded to include all things pirate-related, such as swords, eye patches, hats, "hooks", gold doubloons and jewelry. And for good measure, the nearby Tortuga Tavern's menu will be completely revamped. It will now be more health-conscious and specialize in local Florida specialties.

What are your thoughts on this?

Well can I suggest having one of the Paint the Night floats in SpectroMagic?

Well, being as how this will be the SpectroMagic 2.0 concept, I'm not sure. The only thing I can truly think of to reuse from Paint the Night is the Little Mermaid scene. But I'm going to have to have to go back and look at it again.

Anyway, here's the updated dining and shopping for Adventureland:

For dining, the Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace have already been switched, as we already know. And the Skipper's Canteen is about to open. Over at the Tortuga Tavern, the menu has been completely overhauled anew. Now it will be home to local Florida specialties, many of them health-conscious and citrus-based, likely sponsored by the Florida Citrus Growers. Parked out by the Indiana Jones ride is a new snack spot, in the form of a van, known as Expedition Eats.

For shopping, with the Magic Carpets of Aladdin gone, the Agrabah Bazaar is gone, too. But that's about it, except for the fact that the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar will now be home to mainly pirate-themed objects: hooks, swords, treasure (gold, jewelry, etc.), but no more pistols, in keeping with new policies. There is also the addition of a new shopping area at the edge of the new Indiana Jones ride, known as Brody's Outfitters.

So here's the lineup for WDW's Magic Kingdom's Adventureland:

    ATTRACTIONS:
Enchanted Tiki Room: A Tropical Serande
Indiana Jones and the Mountain of Serpentine Flames
    Jungle Cruise
    Pirate Treetop Lair
    Pirates of the Caribbean

    ENTERTAINMENT:
    Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial

    DINING:
    Aloha Isle
    Expedition Eats
    Skipper Canteen
    Sunshine Tree Terrace
Tortuga Tavern (by Florida Citrus Growers)

    SHOPPING:
    Brody's Outfitters
    Island Supply (by Sunglass Hut)
    Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar
    La Princesa de Cristal
    Zanzibar Trading Company

That's it for Adventureland. Next time, it's off to Frontierland and Liberty Square and some dramatic changes!

I would suggest the Frozen float, and how the ice around Elsa's castle could change color, but its your parade.

Actually, it's not my parade, it's just so great that I'm going to use the show created by @DisneyManOne, which is going to be called "SpectroMagic: Colors Combined".

We now arrive at Frontierland and Liberty Square. Few things are changed here for the most part. Big Thunder and Splash Mountains will receive only minor updates (to upgrade the figures and movements and such). The Frontierland Shootin' Arcade is unchanged. The only thing is that the Country Bear Jamboree will be altered. For the time being, it will now be reverted to the Vacation Hoedown version:

Ultimately, the goal will be to create a brand-new show for this location, based on a proposed show for the California Adventure, but for now, the Vacation Hoedown show will be installed. But even this version of the show will be somewhat shorter. For reference, a complete script of the original show can be found here: http://waltdatedworld.bravepages.com/id60.htm. For example, not only will the pauses be nixed, as in the original show, but after singing "On the Road Again", Wendell no longer takes a flash picture of the audience and promptly gets chastised for doing so by an unseen cast member. Later, I will tell all that has been changed for this version, but for now, let's move on.

Over at Liberty Square, even less has been changed. The Hall of Presidents will remain as is, except for the addition of an AA of a new president, whoever it may be. The Haunted Mansion looks fine right now, but the Corridor of Doors will now have those hands prying through that one door, with the old lighting (a pallid and uncomfortable red, created by special red globes placed over the hurricane glass lamp chandeliers).

I know what you're thinking: what about the Rivers of America? Well, that is about get an update the likes of which makes the impact on Disneyland's Rivers of America look relatively minor by comparison...

    Stay tuned!

Remember when I said that I had seemingly forgotten about the Rivers of America when talking about Frontierland/Liberty Square? I haven't! It's about to become altered big time! We know that, as we speak, Disneyland's Rivers of America is being significantly reduced to allow for the Star Wars land to be built, yet its attractions will still be available when all is said and done. Well, that's nothing compared to the alterations coming to WDW's Magic Kingdom's Rivers of America!

There are now new pathways to and from Tom Sawyer Island, relieving the bottleneck at Big Thunder and accessing an expansion to come. A second pathway also comes up from where the Haunted Mansion Fastpass area once was. Of course, that means that the Liberty Belle Riverboat can no longer move across the river. This was not an easy decision to make, but I decided on this due to capacity updates. Besides, only the Riverboat and rafts are really going to be gone; for all of that, some new additions should bring back the lost capacity and a bit more besides. Now the Riverboat will become a restaurant - maybe that rumored tea restaurant with Tiana (from "The Princess and the Frog") once thought of for the Mark Twain at Disneyland.

However, you can still travel on the river, now by way of some modified keelboats that can float under the bridges, but now with no boat guides, instead with voiceover commentary. The keelboats will load and unload at a dock that once had the canoes dock there. The river will now loop around just past Fort Clanghorne.

Oh, and the food and shopping in the lands remain the same. There are slight differences, however: the menu for Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. It now carries a different menu: a mix of Mexican and BBQ specialties. The Briar Patch will now sell items themed primarily to Splash Mountain, along with animal plush toys, like those from "Bambi". And finally the Diamond Horseshoe will be open again with a new show based on Billy Hill and the Hillbillies.

In conclusion, here's the roundup of stuff in Frontierland and Liberty Square. First, Frontierland...

Well, the problem with that is that there are a lot more presidents now than then. For reference, here are all the presidents who took office since 1971:

    -Gerald Ford
    -Jimmy Carter
    -Ronald Reagan
    -George Bush
    -Bill Clinton
    -George W. Bush
    -Barack Obama

Or were you referring to the pre-1993 film that precedes the depictions of the presidential figures themselves? If that's the case, it would seem rather jarring to go from an old film with old audio to newer audio some 45 years later, so I honestly don't know.

Here's a rough rendering of how the altered Rivers of America will look afterwards:
    MK ROA replacement.jpg

Notice the yellow lines off of Big Thunder and the Mansion. They are those bridges across the river to provide alternate passages to Tom Sawyer Island. They are there to relieve bottlenecks, particularly at Big Thunder. Right now, all I will tell you about the new land is that it will take a page out of the Star Wars land book by having two things from one property at opposite ends of the park. Let's just say if a Star Wars land and Star Tours can coexist in two separate areas of a single park, then anything is possible.

    Stay tuned!
