Trip Report And I am telling you, I AM going...on the Disney Dream WDWMagic Girls Cruise

Can you stand another trip report from the 1st Annual UNofficial WDWMagic Girls’ Cruise? What’s that you say? Well, I’ll just keep going anyway. Fair warning: I’m long-winded. If three words are all that’s required to get the message across, I’ll use ten.

Just so you recognize me:
IMG_1612.JPG

On October 29, 2011, I was browsing the WDWMagic forums and guided the mouse towards the Disney Vacation Club forum. By accident, I clicked on the Disney Cruise Line forum, where I noticed a thread called “**It's UNOFFICIAL** The '13 Unofficial WDWMagic Girls Cruise!” Intrigued, I opened it up and discovered that @sweetpee_1993 and @Disneyfalcon had organized and were recruiting for a trip in September 2013. In a matter of hours, I had signed up. I was going to be celebrating my 50th birthday in July 2013, and declared that this would be an ideal birthday present from my darling husband! Saint that he is, he agreed, although I’m pretty sure he didn’t think I was serious about it until I booked my airline ticket this past February! I lined up @joanna71985 as a roommate for the cruise, and @plaz10 as my roommate for the one-night pre-cruise at Bay Lake Tower, as well as a couple of nights post-cruise at the Boardwalk.

Fast forward to Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. I’d packed my bags the night before (and weighed them!), tucked in my cruise paperwork and my passport, and we said we’d leave the house our usual 3 hours in advance of flight time to make it to LaGuardia and through security without any last-minute rush. Suddenly, I remembered that the US Open would be playing that day--“honey, check the time of the first match!” Noon. Same time as my flight. OMG, there’s going to be massive traffic, and the tennis stadium is right next to the airport. Now we start rushing, and though I’ve traveled plenty on my own, and am usually the calm one, I realize that I don’t know where my passport is. Sheer panic. Took me almost ten minutes to find it in my purse. After all that drama, we had the smoothest drive to LGA ever, no traffic, and then no security line! I never had so much time to burn at the airport.

Boarded my multi-cultural flight--sitting next to me was a young couple from Italy on their honeymoon. Behind us was a French family (mom, boy and girl directly behind, dad across the aisle from them). Before we even take off, the boy is acting up. Italian bride looks scornfully through the seat at them, to no effect. L’enfant terrible starts kicking his legs. Right into my seatback. Once the flight attendant finished the safety spiel, I asked her if it was okay for me to move into the empty aisle seat directly across from me—she glanced behind me and suggested I move right away before we took off. :joyfull: So I joined the honeymooning couple from Spain on that side of the plane, and spent the remainder of the flight with Pere’s knees giving me some unwanted lumbar support.

Arrived at MCO, scooted off the plane and onto the monorail.

This would be my first time using DME! Because I was only there for one night, though, I handled my own luggage since I didn’t want to wait for it. I swung my suitcase off the carousel, and whacked myself in the foot with the thing. Got down to Level 1 and had to pull over and dig out a band-aid so I didn’t bleed all over my shoe. [Note to self: in future, pack band-aids in carry-on.]

Finally!
DME Queue.jpg

Funny, it was a Disney Cruise Line bus! I was too excited to snap a photo, and I decided to use the time on the bus to call home and let the hubs know I’d arrived safely. I’d been texting Jess @plaz10 since landing; she’d gotten in early before the room was ready, so headed into MK, but by the time I got to check-in, she was in our room at BLT. Contemporary would be the second stop on the bus. As we were pulling into Wilderness Lodge, very ominous dark clouds appeared, as you can see here (I had to get a picture of the DCL bus!!)

IMG_1108.JPG

The moment I got my room key, the deluge began, and since both routes to Bay Lake Tower are open, I had to wait it out—
IMG_1110.JPG

I grabbed some lunch at the Contempo Café [kid’s meal mahi-mahi sandwich with fruit]. I’d lost three pounds in preparation for the trip, and wanted to wait til I was on the boat to start packing it back on! :)

I figured there are worse places to be stuck than on the Grand Canyon Concourse:
IMG_1112.JPG

At long last, I made it to the room, and found Jess out on the balcony, soaking in the view of SpaceshipEarth:

IMG_1599.JPG

—it seemed as if all of the WDW resort (except for MK, of course) was spread out in front of us:
IMG_1605.JPG

Not only could we see (from left to right as indicated by my crudely drawn arrows on the zoomed-in screen capture below) Spaceship Earth, but the Swan, the Dolphin, the Tower of Terror, Miss Tilly, and Everest.
WDW Panoramic Capture.JPG

As if we needed a good omen, a rainbow appeared:
IMG_1115.JPG

We had a busy evening ahead of us: Jess wanted to visit the Top of the World lounge, we were joining the group dinner at 1900 Park Fare, and we also wanted to meet up with the group that was having drinks at Tambu Lounge. So we needed to get off the balcony and start getting ready for the evening!

The evening was so pretty, and the view so nice, I had to squeeze in a few more photos:

All cleaned up and ready for our tour of the monorail resorts, we headed out. First, we stopped to take in the amazing view from the elevator lobby:
IMG_1607.JPG

To get to TotW, we had to take the elevator down to the lobby, show my DVC ID to the CM at a desk, and then she escorted us to the special elevator that goes to the roof. We weren’t sure if we felt like celebrities or criminals. o_O Before we headed into the lounge, we took in the views from the Top of the World. The storm had made for an amazing sunset:

In that last one, you can see the construction of MK bus stop expansion. Maybe it was the torrential downpour that had just passed, but it looks like they may be building those extra bus stops on top of the Seven Seas Lagoon  I'll just hope that none of my resort buses ever stop at the new stops...:cautious:

Inside the lounge, we ordered bubbly Prosecco to start off our adventure on a celebratory note. Chatting with bartender Mike, a Legacy CM, we told him about our Girls Cruise, 27 ladies who'd all met on the internet. Turned out he’d been on a number of DCL cruises and gave us some handy tips. He also mentioned that the Dream has 31 bars, and he encouraged us to try to hit them all. :)

On that note, we headed for the monorail and the Polynesian! We walked toward the Tambu Lounge intending to share a Lapu Lapu, (I’d never had one and we were both still saving calories for the cruise), and were hailed by Holly @HollyBelle and Shannon @Ariel484, with Courtney @Howe and Sherry @Tiggerfanatic . They’d been on the verge of leaving, so Jess and I got our Lapu Lapu with two straws and slurped it down so we could get to dinner.

Courtney, Sherry and we boarded a monorail for the short hop to the GF, and found the rest of the gang. We got our pager and started getting acquainted and shortly were lining up for our photo (not sure if anyone got that) and were seated for a fun evening with Cindy and her Stepfamily. I have no pics from the evening, but Tammy and Kelly got some good ones in their TRs Cruising With the 27 Ladies of Leisure! and I ESCAPED!!! (part 1) - The Dream Girls. After dinner, Jess and I took the monorail back to BLT to get some sleep before embarkation day!

Yay! Another trip report. This one's off to a rip-roaring start. So jealous that you were at the Contemporary. NEXT TIME, that's where I'm staying on Cruise eve night!

Bring me more, bring me more!

Alarms set for early, Jess and I rose and shared the getting-ready facilities as if we’d roomed together for years! LOL All packed up again, we headed for the monorail once more, this time our destination was the group breakfast at Kona Café. Once again, I have no picture of this event either, but here’s Kelly’s take on it I ESCAPED!!! (part 1) - The Dream Girls That first photo in Kelly’s post is me having another “I can’t find my passport” moment. So not like me!

Prior to this trip, I’d met three of my fellow DreamGirls. I met @jesemeca Jess at the Epcot 30th celebration, and during that same Sept-Oct 2012 trip, I met up with @PartOfYourWorld Jess and her mom @LuvsTheMouse Diane. Diane and I did the Happy Haunted 5K that weekend, and Jess and my hubby hung out while waiting for us to finish. This morning I’d be getting re-acquainted with them all! Tammy has a full report and photos: Cruising With the 27 Ladies of Leisure!

When we hit the pavement and I saw that stretch Hummer, I was finally motivated to start taking pictures! Jess @plaz10 pointed out that this was the first time our feet had touched pavement since we left BLT for dinner the night before—since that point, we’d traveled exclusively by monorail! We were rolling deluxe, all right!

Here’s Kelly enjoying the Hummer while a crowd loads their luggage into the trailer
IMG_1613.JPG

The ride to Port Canaveral:

Jess @plaz10 and Darolyn @derelicte19 —these two gals are excited to be heading to the port!
IMG_1619.JPG

Me and Diane enjoying the ride!
IMG_1621.JPG

Finally, we reach the port. I have no photos from our grand entrée, but Tammy does!
Cruising With the 27 Ladies of Leisure!

We boarded, and gathered for lunch at Cabanas. On the way there, we passed through the main pool area. I noticed a mom drying off her child, and thought, “gee, she looks familiar”…it was the French family from my flight!!! :jawdrop: Holy cow, what a coincidence.

Made it to Cabanas. Fabulous food. If you followed the link to Tammy’s report, I ultimately occupied the chair in front of Sherry, and after finishing my lunch, since I had little interest in touring the kids’ clubs, I settled at a table with @Ariel484 and @HollyBelle and got further acquainted with them. Good times.

Then Joanna @joanna71985 and I made our way to our AWESOME verandah room.

Your wish is my command. :) I think I can squeeze in one more post before I have to call lunch hour quits and get back to work! Even though I'd much rather spend the entire afternoon posting my trip report!! LOL

I was totally in love with this stateroom. It's amazing how much storage space they worked in there. I had overpacked, but still was able to put everything away in my half of the room.

Even better, we had friendly next-door neighbors-- @jesemeca and @Mrs.Skellington were in the stateroom right next door to us!!

It was time for us to head up to the @KingdomKonsultants reception in the Meridian lounge, where all of the WDWMagic Dream Girls would gather together with surprise guest Minnie Mouse! Totally enjoyed the spread that Pam had laid out for all of us DreamGirls!

Minnie & Me time!

Here's Jess @PartOfYourWorld peeking in the window of Meridian:
IMG_1648.JPG

And our Pittsburgh girls @Tiggerfanatic and @plaz10 , Sherry & Jess got a special shot:
IMG_1659.JPG

After the reception, we made our way up to the Sailing Away Party!! Thanks to our friend @englanddg and all the WDWMagicers who webcammed us!

IMG_1665.JPG

Headed out to sea are Tammy @Disneyfalcon, Diane @LuvsTheMouse, Jess @PartOfYourWorld, Suzanne (Jenell’s sister), Christina @Kerby626, Kelly @sweetpee_1993 and Jenell @GrumpysWife

We scattered after the Sailing Away to get ready for the evening. I grabbed a gorgeous sunset off of our verandah
IMG_1667.JPG

IMG_1672.JPG

I took a lot of pictures off this verandah, and discovered that there's just something about sunset at sea that is irresistible to my shutter finger, too!

Tonight’s show was the Golden Mickeys! Joanna and I arrived early, got front row seats, and settled in to watch the “red carpet” show—and when the “Real Housewives of Disney” were announced, we were surprised and delighted to see @derelicte19, @TiggerLuv18 , @PartOfYourWorld, and @LuvsTheMouse on the big screen!! They did a great job, but I wasn’t quick enough to get my camera out to get the shot. Joanna @joanna71985 did capture the moment, and I’m sure she’ll share it in her trip report or attach it here.

The Golden Mickeys show was great. I did get a bit of a crook in my neck from being in the front row, but I gotta tell ya, the close-up view of Tarzan made it all worthwhile. Woo-hoo!! <<fan my hot flash>> :D

After the show, off to dinner at Enchanted Garden, which I enjoyed with Tammy, Courtney, and Sherry. My meal was absolutely delicious, I had the cucumber roll appetizer and the scallops with couscous and asparagus entrée. Details, including photos of my food, at Tammy’s report here: Cruising With the 27 Ladies of Leisure!

After dinner, some of us headed off to the Skyline Lounge, where I appropriately enjoyed a New Yorker cocktail:

A glorious end to my first DCL day!!

Loving it so far! It's keeping my mind off of the fact that one week ago today I was at Castaway Cay

I agree with your comment about the storage space in the room. I was shocked how much space there was! Everything I brought with me had a place. It was so nice!

I can't wait to read the rest :)

Hi cruise neighbor! Where do I begin....

I have sooo many sunrise/sunset pictures from my verandah. How could you not take pictures from back there? The views were awesome! I had to book my same room for my cruise on the Fantasy. I don't think I will ever be able to stay anywhere other than an aft verandah room!

What are the odds that you run into the family from the plane? You just couldn't get away from them, could ya?

I loved meeting Minnie so early in the cruise! And I was so grateful that @Disneyfalcon got everyone together for the group picture early. I was not feeling well at all at that point, thankfully it went away soon.

I still want to know where I could order my own Tarzan from. I never saw them in any of the stores. LOL.

Can't wait for more!

Hey WDW Roomie!! I love that you started your TR! We had so much fun that first day drinking around the monorail resorts haha. I could have stayed at Top of the World all night - I did feel like a celebrity when the lady was clicking her counter...Ooo we are so special they have to see if they have room for us!!...And there were about 5 people there...including Legacy Mike. It was still so great and a beautiful view!

Can't wait to read more!

I have been reading along to several of these ladies cruise trip reports but have not chimed in thinking I did not want to butt in to the fun the ladies are sharing. You know, old fat guy lurking...
Anyway, decided to comment here. This and the other TRs look like so much fun and fellowship was shared...I would really like to encourage my wife and her best friend to go on one of these trips sometime. I believe she would really like the group scenario, sharing laughter and camaraderie.
One question...being a complete non-drinker, do you think she would feel out of place?

This is awesome so far, Siobhan. That verandah is massive. I can't wait for more photos! :)

Prepare yourself, Jen. An aft verandah has been booked for the 2nd Annual cruise!

Yay!!!!! So excited for your report, Siobhan!

Thanks, Holly!! Gotta keep the momentum going and see how long we can stretch out Girls Cruise reports!!

Glad to help your CC withdrawal, Jess. I'm reading your TR to re-live my cruise! LOL Hoping to see you on next year's!!

My camera became addicted to the view from that verandah, Jess, and just like you, I made sure to book one for my next cruise in February (back on the Dream for Valentine's Day with the hubs ;) ) I'll have to make sure to sit way back for the Golden Mickeys then. :D

We haven't seen the last of la famille mal élevé...

Yay!! I love this! The WDWMagic Girls reports never stop! :D

Just like the awesomeness, they will keep on going and going. :)

That was a great first night to our trip, despite the lack of paparazzi at Top of the World. :D

I'll be looking out for your trip report!!

Yay! Loving the TR! I'm just about done uploading my pictures, so I should be starting my TR soon

Yeah! We've gotta keep them going. ;) All the better to advertise the 2nd Annual!

Glad you're chiming in here, @epcotisbest!! The answer is no, your lovely wife would not feel out of place as a non-drinker, we had a fair number of teetotalers as part of the group, if you follow the links to @Disneyfalcon's report, you'll notice that she frequently mentions that she doesn't imbibe, and it didn't bother her or us in the least. All she needs to belong to our group is a love of Disney and WDW! :D

Then she would probably fit in. She does love Disney, though not as much as me. She is doing her third Disney Princess half-marathon this coming Feb.

Day 2

I’m an early bird, so I was up around 7 and by 8 was ready to do my morning walk: laps around the Promenade, Deck 4. I’d wanted to connect with Diane @LuvsTheMouse to walk, but we forgot to set a time to meet (this would continue to happen throughout the entire cruise). Took a few laps on my own, about two miles or so while the ship was approaching the dock at Nassau. This was my first sight of land, the tip of Paradise Island:
IMG_1141.JPG

After freshening up, I met up with Jess & Diane, and while others were enjoying their Nassau excursions, we played a round of Goofy’s mini-golf:
IMG_1686.JPG

Who won, I won’t say… ;) Afterwards, we played a MidShip Detective Agency mission—we rescued the puppies—so much fun!! And then explored the ship.

IMG_1693.JPG

Oh, that chandelier.
IMG_1690.JPG

IMG_1721.JPG

IMG_1722.JPG

Goofed around a little bit:
IMG_1706.JPG

IMG_1707.JPG

At some point, we went to Cabanas for lunch. I loved that the buffet choices were entirely different than they had been yesterday. While we were eating and gazing out at Atlantis, we became aware of a ruckus at the table directly behind us. Children melting down, yelling at each other, talking back angrily to mom…and I realized they weren’t speaking English. Took a glance over my shoulder, and sure enough—that same French family from the plane! :jawdrop: :banghead:

Wandered through an empty PINK.
IMG_1704.JPG

We’d see a bit more of this place before the cruise was over ;) Love the corseted bar
IMG_1694.JPG

I was part of the group that would dine at Remy tonight, so I went back to put on my glad rags. I caught some of the Villains Tonight show and it was great, but I cut out to make sure I got to Remy on time. For the first time in a very long time, I was early for something!

I am laughing at the leitmotif of the French family. Too funny.

I had a family with a screeching child on my flight to MCO and they were also on my return flight. Screeching.
