An Adventure 5 years in the making - My pre-trip report

Are we all sitting comfortably. Then I shall begin...

I still have exactly 11 weeks until I return to WDW for what will be our 3rd visit so to try and contain my excitement (yeah right:cool:) I thought I would give a go at writing my first pre-trip report!

But first, if you don't mind, I shall give you a brief history of myself and my experiences with the wonder that is Disney.

My first experience at a Disney park was when I visited DLP, but this was no ordinary visit, oh no. My first (of many) encounters at DLP was as part of Magic Music Days with a group that I used to sing with. We performed on the Fantasy Festival Stage so the curtain going up and seeing the castle for the very first time was an awesome experience. Especially as we had entered through the backstage area and that was the first view we had of the entire park!

Now until my first visit I had never really been on a rollercoaster so what was the first we went on. Yep it was Space mountain!!!

As you may tell I was a bit apprehensive but by the second go I was getting used to it!

And would even do strange poses sometimes when I knew a camera was coming up!

Between 1999 & 2002 many return trips were made to DLP, twice more performing in Magic Music Days and many others with various friends.

In 2002 a monumentus decision was made between myself and my sister that we would save up for a holiday in none other than Walt Disney World :sohappy:.

So we saved and planned for our trip which we decided to take between 15th January & 29th January 2004 staying at POR.

A lot happened during the lead up to our trip, worst of which was the unfortunate passing of our brother Shaun in September 03. We even talked of cancelling our trip as it would leave our mum at home on her own but she said that we should go as it would be just the break that we needed. And boy was she right!

Our first visit to WDW was sensational and I fell in love with Disney in a whole other way. Marvelling at the sheer size and spectacle of this glorious place and falling in love with attractions like Spaceship Earth, Tower of Terror and one of our personal favourites Splash Mountain

On our way home we obviously started talking about a return visit but on arrival home things happened that would prevent me, or so I thought (but more of that shortly), from returning until 2009, hence the title of this thread. So my planning began.......

Oh but you can't stop there, I want to hear more...lol. My own trip is 392 days away, I'm in pain here and the only thing I can do is read trip and pre-trip reports to get me by.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, that must have been very hard, I can't even imagine.

5 years may seem a bit of a long time to be planning a holiday but my planning did not have to wait the original 5 years I thought.

For those of you astute enough to have spotted that I will be beginning my 3rd trip this Nov may be wondering when I had the 2nd. During 2006 my Great Aunt passed away and left my mum quite a large inheritance, and unknown to me my mum had told my sister that she was going to treat me and my sister to a holiday at, wait for it, WDW and the original plan was that they were going to book it and give it to me as a christmas present. But as the old saying goes the best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley!

My sister thought I had found out about it firstly when I picked her up from Gatwick airport after a holiday she had been on with some friends when I commented that next time I was at this airport I was going to be the one going on holiday, but to do that someone would have to pay for me! But she kept quiet!

The day I did find out however, was a very pleasant shock to the system. I was sat in KFC with my mum, my other sister and one of my nieces and they were talking about a trip they were planning to DLP to which I said that after a long think about it I wanted to go with them. My mum replied simply with 'Oh!!!'. Which knocked me back a bit as at first I thought they didin't want me to go with them. She then said' I suppose I will have to tell you now' and preceeded to tell me their plan. Needless to say the excitement got a bit too much for me and by the end of that day we had booked a holiday for 22nd November - 6th December 2007 staying at the AKL!

But yet again, the lead up to that holiday was not all plain sailing. In March 2007 I was told that I needed an operation, nothing serious thankfully, but there was no timescale they could give me for when I would have it but it would mean about 2 weeks off work and they would call me if there was a cancellation.

Finally on the 25th June 2007 I got the call to say could I go in on the 27th for my op (talk about short notice). So in I went and had my op. Now they did tell me that I would only need 2 weeks off work, so I thought fine no worries about me not being well enough for my trip. Well they were wrong!!! I had my op on the 27th June and did not return to work until 9th September so I had just over 2 months off work which at times did put the trip in jeapordy, but none of that 2 months were wasted!!!

That 2 months I was off I spent scouring the internet learning all I could about WDW making sure there would be nothing that I would miss on our next trip! I made our ADR's, planned what parks we would do and found this fantastic site that we are on now!

For some reason on the lead up to that trip I could not believe that I was actually going to be returning to WDW!

We paid for the holiday....still didn't believe I was going

Got the tickets....still not believing it!

Check in at the airport....nope not quite sure it's gonna happen

Boarding the plan....still not there

It was not until the plane accelerated for take off that I actually believed I was going!

As I said earlier this trip we were staying at the AKL and the holiday was made for us when we were told that we had been upgraded from a standard room to a savannah view room! Sorry this has been a bit wordy but here are a couple of photos from our trip!

And trying to look cool at DHS!

So with our 2007 trip finished we then turned our thoughts to our holiday in 2009 and thought that as we had returned to WDW sooner than anticipated that our next trip should be to Disneyland California. But of course this would all change....

I know how you feel. I've been reading pre-trip and trip reports to try and get me through until I go!

It was very hard. The worst thing for me was I was away when it happened and wasn't coming back until a couple of days later!

So the planning for 2009 began, as I say we originally thought we would go to Disneyland California but a trip to London in December last year to see a concert 'The Music of Disney' changed all that, or to be more accurate the first ten minutes of our car journey changed our minds!

We were talking about a trip that we were planning for 2011 (yes, we do plan that far in advance) where we would be taking our 3 nieces to WDW who at that point will be 8, 5 & 3. And to shoot off subject for a minute and beacuse I'm a very proud uncle. Here's a recent photo of them!

So we decided that as the trip with the girls would be different than any of the other 2 trips we had taken to WDW, we decided to have a return to WDW.

Of course, by the end of the next day we had booked our trip for the 26th Nov - Dec 10th at the Poly. Yes we are being very extravagent this time but it's been a long hard five years so I'm treating myself.

This time we decided to try the dining plan so I patiently waited for my 90 day mark to come around and I have now made my ADR's. The list looks a bit excessive but as we are staying 14 nights that was 14 table service meals to book. Now there may be some that we will change but so far we have places at Le Cellier, Raglan Rd, Liberty Tree Tavern, The Wave, Kona, Sci-Fi Dine In to name but a few.

As this trip is in my sisters 30th birthday year I am treating her to tickets to the Hoop-de doo musical review and we have also booked tickets to see La Nouba for the 2nd time

So now all I need is for our tickets to arrive and that magic date to hit where we once again return to one of the happiest places on earth.

As with our other trips the lead up has not been the smoothest and the main worry I have now is that I may lose my job due to the decline in trade because of the economic climate, but thankfully I have a very accomodating sister who if this does happen will let me pay her back the rest of what I owe for the holiday when I can.

So there you have it folks. My first ever pre-trip report. Hope you enjoyed it and hopefully this will give me the incentive to write a full trip report upon my return.

So for now it's goodbye while I still count the days down to my return to a world that in one day can make you laugh, cry, scream, take you to places you never thought possible and create memories that will last forever

Yes, yes, yes....definitely do a TR when you get back, I want to hear all about it. Since my own trip is so far away I have quite a bit of time to choose a resort. So far I'm thinking Port Orleans Riverside but I'd love the Poly if I can swing it, so let me know how that was.

Have a safe trip and have a wonderful time. Also, your nieces are gorgeous, I would be pretty proud too and I'm sure they'll love Disney when they get to go as well

Hey Jimmy,

Thanks for sharing. I can say I would have lost my mind to have to wait as long as you have for the trip.

I want to mention we will be in WDW when you arrive:wave:

They have been to DLP a couple of times as well. Last time we went I was watching the parade with Caitlin, the eldest, and every single princess came up to her and said hello or hello princess. The look on her face was one of pure delight and something I won't forget for a while.

Hey Jimmy,

Thanks for sharing. I can say I would have lost my mind to have to wait as long as you have for the trip.

I want to mention we will be in WDW when you arrive:wave:

After waiting nearly 30 years before my first trip to the world the wait this time has been nothing:ROFLOL:

Seriously though I think that's why we always have another trip in the planning stage as it kind of helps me get through the post holiday blues!

Excellent. How long are you there for and are you staying on site?

Oh Jimmy---thank you for all the details. The neices are absolutely adorable and it's nice to here that the trip is all set and paid for (it must be a relief!). Please make sure you do a trip report when you return and keep the pictures coming. (Can you tell I'm desperate to hear about your trip, we have not been back to the world since 2006!)

I'm also desperate to have my trip:ROFLOL:

It is nice to know that it's all paid for and especially as the circumstances with my job seem to be getting worse!

Thank you for reading and I'll make sure that I do a full trip report once I'm back

Small update on the countdown to my trip.

On the good news side my tickets have arrived and this time in 3 weeks should just be about to enjoy an ADR at Le Cellier!

However on the bad news side where I was working has now closed since my bosses have done a runner! But that is not going to dampen my spirits or stop me from enjoying my holiday!

Watch out for my trip report once I return!
