Just read elsewhere about an accident at the Kali River Rapids today involving construction equipment and injured guests on the ride.

My thoughts are with the injured and their families. :(

Yes, I can't believe what they must be going through. Anybody have any more particulars on what happened? I just read the paragraphs over on that *other* Disney site, hehe.

I have family that are staying in WDW at the moment, will be waiting for them to ring me later this evening, until then I will be worried.

Will keep an eye out for any information,

Here is the article I have seen:
Breaking News: Accident at Animal Kingdom
May 29, 2007

WDWINFO.COM - (5/29 - 12pm) While details are still sketchy, it appears there has been a major accident at Animal Kingdom this morning that sent several guests to the hospital, and forced an entire section of Animal Kingdom to close down.

According to unconfirmed reports, a piece of equipment being used by workers on a bridge over the ride collapsed, and struck a raft full of guests. According to one eyewitness, the water at Kali River Rapids was "red with blood". Several ambulances and emergency personnel were on the scene. There are no reports of fatalities, but some on the ride were severely injured.

More information to follow as details become available.

WOW That doesn't sound good at all. Hopefully the blood comment is just blown out of proportion.

I just got this from WESH. It sounds like the earlier statement was a little over the top:

Six people were hurt Tuesday morning while riding an attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on the Kali River Rapids ride, WESH 2 News reported.

Authorities said all of the injuries were minor.

Officials with the Reedy Creek Fire Department said it's not known if the ride flipped or listed severely.

Five of the victims were transported to Florida Hospital-Celebration Health and one was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital.

i just saw it on msnbc and they were showing a helicopter view of wdw and said 6 people were injured.

Sorry for the thread drift, but I thought the area over WDW was restricted airspace.

Back on topic...... I hope everyone is okay, it is aweful to hear when someone is injured, moreso when its in the happiest place on earth. :(

The MSNBS report just reiterates what the WESH2 report states.

MSNBC/WESH2 are reporting a raft was listing dangerously to one side or perhaps flipped over. As for the WDWINFO report that someone posted, about construction vehicles being operated on a bridge that the ride rafts float under, I find that highly unlikely.

The area over the parks is restricted airspace, not closed. There are times when aircraft can fly over the parks with permission.
