A mini-disc recorder question

I've seen reports of these being used to capture audio, but are they formally allowed in the parks, or are they being sneaked in? Also, do performances like the Candlelight and other live shows forbid recording?
I'm going next week with my 9-month-old son - basically strolling and babysitting with plenty of time to get audio and video. But I will have my hands too full to worry about the MD if it shouldn't be there in the first place.
Thanks for any advice!

they're allowed in the park, and there are no formal rules on audio recording. Just remain discreet

My suggestion for this is to get one of the new stereo "headphone" style microphones. Basicaly..a mic goes on each ear and it will record with AMAZING quality in complete stereo, and they would assume they are just headphones.

Not sure what they go for, but i've seen em around a lot down here...especially at concerts ;)
