A Disney Park in... WISCONSIN?

Happen.

Your weather is not conducive to year round operations and after Disney's last domestic fiasco right down the street, I realy cant see that they would ever invest stateside again. Moreover..... they cant take care of the toys they have now, why should they get more?

I realize it's a total pipe dream. I just wish somebody would develop the site as something entertainment/convention and tourist-based. It's a prime location!

I'd love to see it as a convention/hotel w/entertainment (like what they have with their entertainment district in Rosemont, IL), because what we currently have is an eyesore and we don't need another distribution/warehouse center. While those are jobs, we have about a new Amazon fulfillment and a dozen grocery warehouse/distribution centers in our town. If you can drive a forklift, we're your town.

Half of the large simulators were not working, then their main system for exchanging tickets or tokens (I can't remember which) broke down. We couldn't do anything at that point. It was a cluster----. The little we were able to play before the massive technical breakdown, wasn't that great. It was a glorified arcade with some VR sprinkled in.

Sounds exactly how the DTD one is right now...

Sounds super neat, but I just don't see it working.

I live directly next to Rosemont (Park Ridge) in the Chicagoland area....with a 40 min. commute to Kenosha...

I think it would be uber neat to have a Disney park right around the corner...BUT....

Winters are not fun here, even if they were Frozen themed. On top of that, even if the park were enclosed, I think it would lose a lot of appeal.

Prices in Chicago are quite expensive. It makes me laugh when people complain about Disney being expensive. Much of the time prices in/around Disney match Chicago prices or are even cheaper. Anyhow, if Disney did consider Wisconsin, I wonder about prices. Granted, Wisconsin is way cheaper than the Chicagoland area, but it's still another thing to consider.

But still, the weather up here is unpredictable. Kenosha probably has more consistent weather, but the lake brings a lot of uncertainty. Chicagoans joke about dressing for all 4 seasons each day since the weather changes that fast. That would certainly impact a theme park (even if enclosed), due to travel to/from the park on the interstates...I foresee a family flying into O'Hare and not being able to leave the airport due to an unexpected blizzard or hail storm in the spring that has caused a lot of flooding issues. These are just minor effects I can foresee.

No offense, but do you think there would be many people saying: "Yay! I'm going to Disney...in Wisconsin!!!..." Florida and the warmer states have so much more appeal.

I live in Kenosha, WI. It's smack in the middle of the Milwaukee/Chicago Interstate 94 (I94) corridor - giant suburbs are located between and around these cities - pretty much a giant city of "Chiwaukee."

Chicago is 1 hour south, Milwaukee is 1/2 hour north, Minneapolis is 6 hours northwest, Indianapolis 4-5 hours southeast.

In Kenosha we have a defunct greyhound racetrack that is an eyesore sitting on tons of prime acreage along I94.

Our governor but the kabosh (forever) on developing the site for a Hard Rock Casino & Entertainment Complex.

Now community stakeholders are looking at "what's next" for the site.

I opened to the editorial page of KNews to read "Disney at Dairyland?" and immediately laughed at the headline.

I'm thought "Wisconsin? Disney park?" "That is crazy - this IS the FROZEN tundra - people want to escape this forsaken place!"

Then I began to read... This guy makes some very good points. I'm not holding my breath because I realize it's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see this happen in my community.

It's an AMAZING location, we have people who need jobs and would jump at the chance to work for Disney, plus for DCP, we have 3 colleges/universities in our town alone and too many to count in our region.

Yes..Yes...Only an hour away for me! Put a giant bubble over it in the winter.

Very good point - that's what I had mentioned earlier - those of us who suffer through the winters are always happy to fly south and get the h@ll out of Dodge. Lol! :)

I'm a WI boy (Grafton) and would LOVE to see a Disney Park here! Can't imagine it would ever happen though. What would be really cool are more flight options out of Mitchell (Milwaukee's airport). I know O'Hare has more options, it's just a really long drive for us.

With regards to the St. Louis project, I did a quick Google and found this interesting account of why it didn't happen - Mr. Busch didn't like Mr. Disney's "no beer served in-park policy."

I did research on the St. Louis Project last year as a guideline of creating an indoor theme park in the imagineering forum last year. What you mentioned actually wasn't the only reason the St Louis project didn't happen.

The explanation I read besides the no beer policy is was disputes between financing and ownership of the park. People also believed Walt's focus on the Florida Project was why the St Louis Project was canceled back in July of 1965.

Oh puhleeze !! Quite the grist for the rumor mill. I remember actually going to a real estate presentation 4 years ago that said both DISNEY and NASCAR were on their way to settle in BRANSON. Not, going to, happen!!

^^^^^ Just a reminder - this was an editorial in the Kenosha News - a complete "what if" and "a suggestion/wish" for a vacant eyesore.

There is NO indication from Disney they ever considered the prospect.

I posted it because found the editorial interesting.
