Trip Report A Collection of Things that are No More: November 2011

Okay, so I am currently Disney deprived, and I am going bonkers!! Somebody send for help! I just recently came across my 2011 Disney World pictures; they were in a folder on my ancient computer that is about to blow up. Not kidding! I began clicking through them and started feeling nostalgic. The memories came flooding back, has it really been four years??? Along with my insane amount of photos and my OCD note-taking skills, I felt like I could relive this trip moment to moment. I thought to myself, what is a better way to save these photos and memories than on the internet in a trip report?? YOU FEEL ME??

In all honesty, I reallyyyyyyy want to have a new trip planned to lovely Walt Disney World, but have finally moved out of my parent’s lovely abode and am becoming a real life adult. Disney does not look doable for 2015 but maybe next year? PLEASE?? 2016 hopefully brings me Rivers of Light, Frozen, and a new trip! I have been torturing myself looking at dining menus, and construction photos, and I think it’s about time I get a life! What’s a girl to do with no trip to plan? I’ve got it! In the meantime, I bring you a trip from the past.

1

For those who don’t know me, I’m Nicole. I am a DISNEY FREAK. Ask anyone. I am a full-grown child, and it’s only getting worse. Oh, and Ariel is my favorite. Been in love since 1989.

Once upon a time, wayyyyyyyy long ago, I took a trip to WDW in November 2011. This trip is unusual because it was not with my best friend! OH THE HORROR. It was with my boyfriend! I know, I know... this is not what you are used too! We went to the world from November 7th to November 12th, 2011. 2011 was a rough year for us… My boyfriend’s younger sister passed away unexpectedly and we both needed to get away from everyday life. Sometimes you just have to splurge and take that vacation; you never know what life is going to throw at you.

We stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort because I wanted to stay somewhere it seemed tropical! November is usually pretty cold in the Northeast, so a Caribbean escape to Florida seemed like a wonderful alternative.

The very week before my trip, a freak snowstorm hit NJ, and since there were still leaves on all the trees, it wreaked havoc all over the state. Branches fell, roofs caved in, power was out for over a week, and Halloween was cancelled. CANCELLED. I was legit packing up my clothes for Florida by candlelight. I had an unrequested weeklong vacation from work before my scheduled Disney vacation… It was like a vacation to the 1800s. Verdict? Don’t ever go.

Left work early, and had to get pushed out of the parking lot.

Forget the Tower of Terror… this is true fear!

The pole that saved the day, power is restored!

Back to the point though, as I reminisced through these old photos, I figured why not share? And it truly surprises me how much of this DOES NOT EXIST anymore. Now, I complain as much as the next Disney fanatic when I say I want new attractions, new shows, new restaurants, new experiences, etc, etc., but looking back into the past, it’s crazy to see how much really HAS changed.

Join me in my time machine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We flew out of Newark airport and took an early morning flight… the only way I travel. I need all the time I can get in the World!

DSC00275

Here we come!

The airport was uneventful, and thankfully my boyfriend is not directionally challenged like myself, and was able to read the map like a true intelligent human being. Me, I still don’t know my left from right.

Hopped aboard the Magical Express, watched the welcome show, and drove through those glorious gates. I was HERE!!!! I was HOME!!

We pulled in to our resort and I just remember being instantly transported. The music on the bus was jammin’ (we in Jamaica mon!), and the bright colors just brought out the allure of the Caribbean. It definitely didn’t feel like a snowpocalyse anymore! This resort was properly themed; you don’t feel like you’re in Florida anymore!

DSC00277

This trip was long before the days of Magic Bands, and maybe even online check-in. If not, I was an amateur back then and had not discovered the incredibly informative forums! We had to go to the desk, get our welcome packet and find out where our room was located. My how times have changed! Wow, I sound like an old pro!

DSC00278

DSC00279

The Cast Member assisting us said we could take the internal resort shuttle to our room which was located in Jamaica. YEAH MON! This was my first time at a moderate resort, and I was in complete awe! A BUS THAT TAKES YOU ALL AROUND? WHAT IS THIS LIFE? The detail and the themeing cannot be justified in words. Descriptions I read online cannot compare to my memories.

We were over the bridge in room 4629, and I personally loved our location. I do agree that this resort is large, but it is beautiful. We didn’t have to walk far at all to the bus, and to get to the dining area and pool we simply had to cross the bridge. As mentioned before, the resort also offers an internal bus shuttle. This option seemed like heaven after walking the parks all day!

It was nice to wander around the tropical plants, and circle the lake, and simply be away from the usual “hustle and bustle”. I was accustomed to the All Stars, and though I love them dearly, you could definitely tell you were at a moderate. I thought the entire resort was peaceful and I would sincerely recommend the Caribbean Beach resort to anyone traveling to WDW. You get so caught up with the “go, go, go” mentality and I think this resort offers an element of true relaxation. It’s a nice change of pace when travelling to the World. Heck, there even was a beach a few feet from our door!

Our room was immaculate, and it felt wonderfully cool. Just a few hours ago I was freezing my tush off waiting for my power and heat to come back on, and now I was thankful for air conditioning! We didn’t stay inside for very long though! There were places to go! Where would I take my “never been to Disney before” boyfriend first? Could I convince him to love Disney as much as I did?

The first land of the day was Fantasyland. There was no “new fantasyland” or “old fantasyland”… it was simply Fantasyland. It’s crazy to think about how different this area is now! It’s weird to me that there was once a Magic Kingdom without New Fantasyland! It seems so second nature now. The construction of this area is what peaked my interest in Disney websites, and blogs, and videos, and photos, etc. etc. I partially blame NFL for my Disney away from Disney addiction. How long until Disney drops the “new” and we have one complete land again?

I now present you with another thing that no longer exists, Snow White’s Scary Adventures!

Snow White’s Scary Adventures was an awesome dark ride, and while I do understand Snow White is now represented in the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, I still mourn the loss of this great attraction! It held that “classic Disney” feel, and it was operational since the opening day of WDW! I know times change, and refurbishments and updates are necessary, I just wish they didn’t replace this ride with a meet and greet. I’ve always dreamed of a Beauty and the Beast dark ride, or 101 Dalmatians, or Lion King… movies that I grew up watching. The classic animated Disney features all deserve their own unique dark ride… if only I was in charge! :)

We both enjoyed this ride, and I think at the time I knew it was closing, so I wanted to make sure I had a chance for one final trip!

Here I am posing with the New Fantasyland wall! Curiosity killed the cat as the saying goes, or in my case, this construction zone started my “need to know everything” Disney obsession! No longer could I sit back and wonder… I had to know every detail!

We read the signs they had plastered, and studied the map of what was coming. Do you guys remember that there were supposed to be little cottages?? I tried to find this old concept art but can't.. I know Sleeping Beauty was in one image!

I was so excited! Can you believe it really wasn’t that long ago? My boyfriend promised to take me back when this section opened, and I am still waiting for him to fulfill this…. Does he think I forgot?! Muhahaha!

Before we ate anything, we decided we should ride the teacups! We took turns spinning each other into nauseousness! Now if that ain’t true love, I don’t know what is!!

We had lunch at Cosmic Ray’s… Mmmm, mmm good! There is so much to choose from at this quick service! My boyfriend had the pulled pork and I had the chicken nuggets. For having so many options, I sure was an adventurous eater! I act like a kid, I eat like a kid… at least I’m consistent!

I spy the Disney parks napkins.. I miss you :(

After consuming way too much food, we decided to take a relaxing stroll over to Frontierland. Who can go on rides after eating such big meals! Oh hello, Liberty Square Riverboat! Still, to this day, I have not been on this!

The laziness that happens after lunch was starting to kick in, and we decided to loop the Magic Kingdom on the WDW Railroad! Sit, relax, take in the sights, people watch… what a perfect idea!

Main Street USA stop on the railroad… got a glimpse of a monorail passing through. I’m now so used to the railroad having three stops, one in Frontierland, one on Main Street, and one in Storybook Circus. It’s hard to believe there previously were only two stops! I’m so glad they have a third now, it really rounds things out and makes the trip more exciting. Three options is always better than two!
DSC00966
https://flic.kr/p/vJffRN
We ended back where we started! Frontierland station! A trip around the park was all we needed to get energized again. Time for Splash Mountain.

You’ll always have a Zip-ah-dee-doo-dah day when you’re in Disney World!
DSC009
67

“Looks like Brer Fox and Brer Bear are causing some kind of commotion downstream! Please stay in your boats while we take care of things. Your visit to Splash Mountain will continue in just a bit!”

We stopped for a good five minutes before the big drop! Ahhh! It increases your anticipation by a long shot! When will this log plummet downsteam?! I love that Disney even themes their ride break down spiels! It’s these added touches that make Disney so magical. I swear it’s all the little things. I hate when rides stop unexpectedly as much as the next person, but ya gotta give it to Disney for staying in character at all times!

We did finally make it to the Laughin’ Place! Yahoooo!! Everything is Satisfactual!

Headed to Adventureland and visited the Enchanted Tiki room. I think this may have been my boyfriend’s all time favorite attraction… Don’t let him know I told you!

“In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room, in the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room, all the birds sing words and the flowers croon, in the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room! “

Don’t tell me you didn’t just sing that! It gets the best of us all!

After chilling with some pretty cool birds, it was time for a snack. My first ever dole whip!
DSC00972
https://flic.kr/p/vJffRN
I had no idea what to say… apparently saying “hey, i want a dole whip” is not specific enough! Where were my Disney friends when I needed them!

I took the recommendation of the cast member and got a pineapple dole whip float… IT WAS DELICIOUS. COLD, REFRESHING, HAPPINESS IN A PLASTIC CUP. I still don’t know if this is what I was supposed to try, but I am so happy I did. All you dole whip obsessed people out there, what exactly do you order??? What am I supposed to say at the window?!

I sat and savored and then realized the time! “What time is the 3’o’clock parade?”

TO MAIN STREET WE MUST GO!

Your pictures and commentary are delightful. I especially enjoyed the parade photos, as I usually avoid the parades, due to the large crowds. You were able to get some excellent pictures, though, and I felt like I was actually there joining in the fun!

After taking in the sights and sounds around us, it was finally our turn to feast! I swear, I can never eat normal sized meals in the World... it's always like it's the last meal I will ever eat for the rest of my life.

DSC01016

DSC01017[/url

Dinner was at The Plaza Restaurant. I always read mixed reviews on this eatery, but I LOVED it. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of my dinner so you will just have to believe me when I say it was GOOD. It's a quaint little Victorian style restaurant... and in my humble opinion, the food was excellent. :)

I had the turkey sandwich, and my boyfriend had the cheesesteak. Mmm..my tummy is a grumbling! I need to eat!

Here's some a picture of me with soda. FAILURE, Nicole. Just utter failure!DSC01019

But all hope is not lost, because here I present you with DESSERT. Hello brownie ice cream sundae. GET IN MY BELLY.

DSC01020

We relaxed and enjoyed our dinner, the Plaza offers a quiet change of pace from the busy outdoors. I really enjoyed my meal, and my ice cream, and would definitely go back! I want to try the kitchen sink so hopefully I can get back there soon!!

We made our way back into the magical realm of the Magic Kingdom, just as twilight was setting in.
DSC01021

This is the closest I've come to visiting for the holidays, so I am glad I took these photos! The decorations were out and it brought us into the joyous holiday season. I love seeing the Christmas decorations while you are dressed for summer. Oh Floridians, you are spoiled!

DSC01022

We wandered around the shops, and scoped out a spot for Wishes. I do not have one picture of show, and in a way I'm kind of proud of myself! I usually want to capture every moment on camera so I can look back and remember it, but sometimes it's best to just unplug and appreciate the here and now. Watching Wishes with my boyfriend gave me a feeling that I cannot describe in words. There's just nothing more magical than being with the one you love most in the place you love most. Magic Kingdom has my heart, but my boyfriend holds a close second. :p

Snapped a picture of this for my dad.. this definitely was not the right time.. Hmm, maybe my pictures are out of order?!

DSC01024

We left with the masses, dragging our feet because we knew it was the last night we'd be spending in the world. I didn't want it to end. Why do weeks in Disney go by so fast? Why does time fly when you're having fun? Why do all good things come to an end?

WHY?!
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

LAST DAY

We slept in on our last day... nobody wants to wake up to the harsh realities that a Disney trip is coming to a close. It's like a punch in the stomach. Keep hitting that snooze button, the end will never come!
:geek::geek:

Took our last self-timers before we packed up.
DSC01028

Our last day was dedicated to eating, and shopping, and eating some more. DOWNTOWN DISNEY it is! (Another thing that technically is no more.. hello Disney Springs!)

Stopped in Goofy's Candy Company. We each filled a bag with candy, because honestly.. who can resist?
DSC01029
https://flic.kr/p/vJeSHu
Then it was off to Once Upon a Toy. Candy, toys.. Disney truly brings out the kid in all of us! And the best part about being a grown up child? You don't need permission! Candy for breakfast? WHY NOT!
DSC01030
https://flic.kr/p/vJeSHu
DSC01031

While the candy for breakfast might have bought us some time, we couldn't resist eating real food for much longer. We made a last minute decision to eat at Rainforest Cafe!
DSC01032
https://flic.kr/p/vJeSHu
There was a 20 minute wait so we each got a drink at the bar. I got this awesome cup that lights up all crazy colors, and it still works to this day! I always make sure to have a drink from it at New Year's... let's see how many years it will light up for!
DSC01033

I loved the bar stools... I want them for my house. Are any of you artistic? I will pay you to paint me one of these!

We got burgers--no picture :( and split the sampler platter as an appetizer. It was all sooooo yummy. I recently discovered there is a Rainforest Cafe in Atlantic City, NJ so I am determined to go! I loved the ambiance of this restaurant, eating in a tropical rainforest under a mushroom? You don't get to do that everyday!
DSC01038

After a thoroughly filling meal, we rolled ourselves out of the rainforest and headed back out into the sun. Spotted my family in lego form, why hey there!

Could we make the time go by slower? I kept refusing to check the time. It isn't real if you don't accept it.

Right?!

I am planning on it! My best friend and I have talked about going to the West Coast to visit Disneyland, then take an Alaskan Disney cruise. I know, totally far apart but we think we could swing it!! I must get out there!

I totally agree with you. I hope the stage is only temporary, if they want to change the icon and have some sort of stage incorporated, I think I would rather that then what they have done now. It's just not pretty looking! Who knows with all the changes coming to Hollywood Studios what will even be the entrance of the park. Is it 2020 yet?? :)

I feel you! Ten years ago I was a lost little rebellious teenager, and going to Disney just made me exuberantly happy. I think my first trip was so over the top magical, that I was instantly hooked. I thank Mister Disney every chance I get, for making movies to take you away, and theme parks as a means of an escape from the harsh real world. :)

I am glad you are another one of the "normal ones"... People who don't get Disney are SO WEIRD!!! Muhaha.. Enjoy Disneyland! You will have to let me know all about it! It's on my bucket list to get out there... I hope I can go there soon! I would love to compare the LAND to the WORLD!

Disney was just what my boyfriend and I needed after his sister passed away. Every day was so depressing, and getting out of the real world and being immersed in this happy magical bubble really helped. I am sorry to hear about your husband's mother and will keep you in my thoughts!

I loveeeeeeee the Twilight Zone, even though I may have stayed up numerous nights begging my mom to let me sleep in her bed after watching a few episodes with her.. I love when it's on for holidays, like New Year's Eve! I always say I am going to buy the whole collection on DVD... One day I will!! :)

What a great thing to happen upon! We watched the artists draw effortlessly, it was amazing what they could do with CHALK. I can barely draw a hopscotch board!

We must have sat and drooled for a good twenty minutes. I wanted to see the finished products! Why oh why was our flight running on time! GOSH!!! WHAT INSANITY this was!

Unfortunately, I checked the time and saw it was just about time to head back to our resort. I like to quote See Ya Reel Soon right here, the tragical depressed was coming for us. It's crazy the utter joy and happiness this bus brings when it takes you from the airport to Disney and then the immense hatred you feel when it's time to leave. :( :( :(

Snapped this lovely holiday photo before we said goodbye to Downtown Disney! Another thing that is no more? I think it's name is currently changed?

We got back to Caribbean Beach and took one final stroll around the resort. Again, I must offer this resort the highest praise. I never thought it would be possible to have a relaxing Disney World vacation, but this resort provided the calmness and serenity we needed. The tropical plants, the Calypso music, the feel of the islands offered the tranquility we didn't even know we needed. It held just enough Disney magic to remind you where you were, yet you truly felt like you were down in the Caribbean. This moderate is beautiful, breath-takingly beautiful.

Again, my descriptions never do anything justice, so I leave you with this picture.

And that my friends, concludes my wonderful trip back in time. This trip to Disney was much needed. I don't think I'll ever forget the year 2011 and I am glad this trip allowed us time to heal, and look forward to the future with hope. It seemed like the first time my boyfriend and I were able to genuinely smile and laugh, and forget about the real world for a little while. I do not know any place on this planet that offers this type of magic. A Disney vacation creates memories and emotions that cannot be found anywhere else. They reach deep into your soul and tug at your heart strings and make you believe that everything will be alright.

Please, I beg you, hug your loved ones. Tell them your feelings. You never know when it might be the end. Life is beautiful, but life is short. You can always make more money, but you can never have more time. Appreciate the little things, and if you get the chance, go to Disney.

:inlove:

You see, its just like I told ya. Wishes can come true, if you believe in them with all your heart.
And the best part is, you'll never run out of wishes. They're shining deep down inside of you.
'Cause that my friends is where the magic lives

Wishes! Dream a dream
Wishes! Set it free
Wishes! Trust your heart
Just Believe
Just Believe

Like a bolt out of the blue,
fate steps in and sees you through.
When you wish upon a star, your dreams...come...true

My beautiful angel

I will take your advice to heart. In this fast-paced world, we tend to sometimes take people for granted, and it's always good to remind each other, about who is really important in our life.

So glad that you and your boyfriend had this wonderful trip, and you'll have these warm memories forever.

Thanks again for sharing your interesting stories and excellent photos.
