“X GAMES XPERIENCE AT DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE™”
LAUNCHES JULY 1 WITH ACTION, ADRENALINE AND BIG AIR

ANAHEIM, CA (DLR Press Release) -- Disneyland Resort® heats up this summer with the high-flying, ultra-amped celebration “X Games Xperience at Disney’s California Adventure™.” Starting July 1, guests of the newest theme park inside the Disneyland Resort will be immersed in a fast-paced array of activities inspired by ESPN’s X Games – including both action sports Xhibitions and interactive activities.
“X Games Xperience at Disney’s California Adventure is an up close and personal encounter with the top action sports athletes competing in the X Games,” said Cynthia Harriss, president of the Disneyland Resort. “We’ve really captured the excitement and thrills of the X Games right here at Disney’s California Adventure.”
“This is a great new forum for these world-class athletes to showcase their tremendous abilities and to allow guests to sample a flavor of the excitement and energy of the X Games,” said George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports. “Visitors to Disney’s theme parks have come to expect the very best in family entertainment. The X Games Xperience at Disney’s California Adventure will provide the perfect lead in to X Games IX in Los Angeles.”
Disney’s California Adventure park’s celebration will run through August 10, just prior to the ninth annual X Games competition in Los Angeles August 14-18 at the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Coliseum. The activities for “X Games Xperience at Disney’s California Adventure” are based on the sports featured annually on ESPN’s X Games, welcoming nearly 100 of the world’s best action sports stars from Moto X, Skateboard, Bike Stunt (BMX), and Aggressive In-line Skate over the course of the event. The park plans 41 days of related events, activities, merchandise and promotions capturing the adrenaline and enthusiasm of the fast-growing sports. Gearing up for the event, X Games experts are adding a large vertical ramp over Paradise Bay and building a new 2,500-seat stadium to showcase the hottest action sports stars. The amazing new X Arena will extend the Disney’s California Adventure perimeter into the Timon parking lot.
The celebration will be aptly accompanied by upbeat music and extreme embellishments throughout the park. Activities include:
• MX “Big Air” Show – a spectacular display of freestyle Moto X jumps, backflips and “big air” stunts, held in the newly constructed X Arena;
• Halfpipe Bay Show – vert ramp demonstrations highlighting the action of bike tricks, skateboarding and aggressive in-line skating;
• Ultimate Scratch & Win Game – a free chance to win action sports prizes for each guest upon entry to the park;
• Star of the Day – appearances by X Games athletes featuring Q&A sessions, Xhibitions and autograph opportunities;
• Interactive Skate Park – a park course inviting guests to learn techniques from the pros and try them out for themselves (skateboards and in-line skates available for rental);
• Flatland Bike Exhibitions – tricks, spins and balancing acts aboard bicycles;
• Radical Merchandise – related keepsakes from t-shirts and hats to X Games Xperience at Disney’s California Adventure merchandise;
X Games IX to be held August 14-18 in Los Angeles showcases more than 300 of the world’s best action sports athletes competing for medals and more than $1 million prize money in seven sports: Aggressive In-line Skate, Bike Stunt, Downhill BMX, Moto X, Skateboard, Speed Climb and Wakeboard. The event airs on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC August 16-22.

I had a chance to see the shows yesterday and I have to say it ROCKS!!!!!!!! It is one of the best things they have done to DCA yet......they had talked about doing a X-games type thing when the park first opened but they decided to do the lame summer concert thing last year. I am so glad they got it right this summer, if anyone has a chance you should SOOOOOOO go see it.

However much the concept may "fit in" to DCA, the promo stuff they did for the park is just degrading. Absolutely no effort was put into theming whatsoever, and the result is a bunch of cheap posters strewn across the park.

The flips Walt is doing in his grave must be pretty impressive by now...
