Well, 10 days into April, we prepare to wrap up our little 'March Madness' excursion with the final two matches of the tourney. 2 1/2 weeks and 62 matches ago, we embarked on this trip, and now it's just about time to finish it off.

The Final Four saw two starkly different matches set up the championship round. Here's how it went down:

Semifinal #1 was the blowout of the tournament, as Magic Kingdom rep Splash Mountain absolutely laid the smack down on the Animal Kingdom champ. We had a tournament-high 33 voters this round, and a grand total of 2 of them backed DINOSAUR in this match. Without breaking a sweat, Splash Mountain plunges into the final:

(3)Splash Mtn. 31, (2)DINOSAUR 2

And now, for something completely different: The Studios-Epcot clash in Semifinal #2 brought yet another nailbiter, as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and IllumiNations went up and down the court for 40 minutes (sorry, gotta work those references in occasionally). For the second straight round, the Coaster hangs on, again winning by a single vote. IllumiNations had won its last two matches by one vote each, but finally comes out on the short end:

(3)Rock 'n Roller Coaster 17, (5)IllumiNations 16

And so we arrive at the penultimate phase: the final round. As you may have noted, last round turkey leg boy came up with the suggestion of a 3rd-place match, just like in the old days of the NCAA tourney, so we're gonna do both of those right now. DINOSAUR and IllumiNations will try to shake off the disappointment of losing by battling for 3rd, while Splash Mountain and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster will face off for the title. Here we go, folks--this is it:

Consolation Match
#2 DINOSAUR vs. #5 IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

Championship Match
#3 Splash Mountain vs. #3 Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

Aaargghhh!!!

Dammit, I really wish I knew why those links only work sporadically! Well, anyway, in case anybody cares, the link to the fifth thread is true, and you can find working links to 1-4 on the first page there.

Although I don't agree that this is the best ride at WDW, I have to go with what made it this far.

Illuminations

Splash Mountain

Consolation Match
#2 DINOSAUR

Championship Match
#3 Splash Mountain

That Championship Match was a tough decision. I probably enjoy Rock 'n' Roller Coaster better for the sheer thrill factor (and it DOES feature my favorite band), but Splash Mountain has so much more going for it. It is the closest to a "classic" Disney ride as you'll find.

My picks...

Consolation Match
#5 IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

Championship Match
#3 Splash Mountain

My opinion is that Reflections of Earth should be the winner of this whole thing. Unfortunately, it seems that many voted for thrill rides. Oh well, to each his own. It's all Disney anyway, so they're all winners.

................I'm proud to say I was one of the two, only because SM didn't even make it into MY final four, so I went with the Dinosaur.

Anyway........

Consolation Match
#2 DINOSAUR

Championship Match
#3 Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

This was great! I can't wait till next year for the second annual Disney March Madness to see if Splash/RnR can defend their title. I almost wish there was 64 of something else in WDW so we could have another tournament. --Sorta like the NIT
