Man dies at SFNE

Having worked at this park as my first summer job some 7 years ago now, I can say that it is PATHETICALLY managed. I mean, were talking local high school teachers looking for a little summer cash... not individuals invested in the overall upkeep of the park.

I'd say it's one of the most unsafe parks in the country. This is just one of so many events in the last decade to make the papers.

The now removed "Music Express" spinning ride came loose and injured a number of people. There was a crash of two trains in "The Thunderbolt". The 'Mind Eraser' inverted coaster has more personal injury reports than any other coaster in the country due to rough ride conditions. The river raft ride, like Kali, had a bizarre situation where one entire raft flipped over trapping riders in 3 feet of water. I, personally, have come off the 'Cyclone' coaster bleeding from the hip from lack of padding. My sister, on the same coaster, ended the ride with a massive bloody nose from the roughness. The superman, last season, was cited as having 'random metal objects' falling from the track and ride cars into the cue area. 'Robin' was hit by the batmobile in the stunt show....

In almost every accident, the park has been cited for it's miserable response time.

I didnt think it was 6flags 7 years ago...i thought it was still riverside. anywho
yeah i was on the cyclone once and the lap bar came off and my roommate and i were freaking out...luckily those things have seatbelts as well.

When the Superman ride first opened, i was standing near it watching it and this guy standing next to me got hit in the head by a bolt that fell off the ride!!
and thats why i never rode superman

The year that Superman opened, I got a season pass for that park...I went at LEAST every other weekend...until the last weekend I was there and saw (on 3 different occassions)...the ride operators NOT inspect to see if all the harnesses, bars, seatbelts were fastened...I haven't been back since.

(One attraction called "Double Trouble" (I believe)...has the rides flip upside down over and over...and actually leave you suspended for a period of time. My friend is a rather large person and the over the shoulder harness wouldn't fit over him (not that's he's obese...he's just thick...and has a huge upperbody). 3 times they did check because it wasn't reading as "secure" on their panel...on the third time...the girl said, "Well, I guess it's ok...just hold it down" AND SENT US!!!

I used to get season passes all the time. but it was kinda silly cuz i would only go on like 3 rides there... all of the ones i didnt go on just seemed too rickety for me
I did like that new batman ride though. anyways, i know what ride you're talking about bri...I cant believe she said to just hold it down...has anyone ever heard of GRAVITY before??

Hmmmm.....a sad story, indeed.

It makes you wonder...

FROM THE NEWS STORY: Stanley J. Mordarsky of Bloomfield, Conn., had cerebral palsy and used a scooter for transportation...

The victim's 82-year-old mother, Germaine Mordarsky...had a feeling it was her son because he enjoyed Six Flags and visited it twice or three times a year.

"I can't understand why they would let him on a ride like that in the first place. He was so sickly and handicapped. I just can't believe it," she said.

What is it about amusement parks in New England? They are all run terribly (maybe not Mountain Park but that went under) and they always have problems. Yet they only are open for a few months out of the year - or is that it?

Oh Mountain Park! That's a blast from the past!

Personally, I hope the park gets slapped with some extreme legal action for this... because I'm certain that the prospect of huge financial losses is the only thing that will get them in gear to up there safety.

Another huge problem is the work force. Granted amusement parks are largely staffed with high school / college kids. However, unlike Disney, there isn't any career sense about the job. It is, for everyone, that annoying little summer job. There is no sense of ownership and therefore no interest in attention to detail.

What follows are some of the park injury reports from an article on the most recent accident....

It was not the first accident or problem on the Superman ride since it opened in 2000.

Forty-two people were injured, including 24 who were sent to hospitals, when the ride's braking system malfunctioned Aug. 6, 2001. The coaster was closed for two weeks until Six Flags officials determined the cause of the accident.

Just hours after the ride reopened Aug. 18, 2001, its computer system sensed a problem and stopped the ride abruptly, halting a train full of riders 20 feet up on the coaster. No one was hurt. The ride reopened after it passed inspections the next day.

On Aug. 12, 2000, a piece of metal and plastic that prevents static electricity buildup fell from the ride and hit a man waiting in line. He drove himself to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

On a different ride in 1999, six adults and two children were tossed into the water at Six Flags after a raft capsized during a water ride. A raft on the Blizzard River ride flipped over Aug. 7, trapping the eight passengers underneath. Two people were critically injured.
