Matrix Revolutions review - oh boy

Just got back from the theatre. I am glad that I had dinner at home and was able to see a matinee, as it saved me some money and I feel "somewhat" less cheated. I want to use the term, "total garbage", but I hope to one day at least "tolerate" this film on some level, so I can enjoy the whole series.

Now before you think, "oh here we go another fanboy ripping apart the Matrix", I'm one of the few that enjoyed Reloaded. Granted, it wasn't perfect or as good as the first one. But it has a huge rewatchablility factor and great scenes with some great dialogue (I enjoy the psycho babble, although it did go on and on).

Well in Revolutions, there is no dialogue, no kung fu fighting, heck Neo is hardly in the movie and Morpheus is reduced to a 2 bit sidekick. 3/4 of the 2+ hours are people talking in a ship, flying a ship or shooting at 250,000 Sentinels. Now the Sentinels part sounds cool, but it's actually some of the most boring 45 minutes of film I've ever seen. Why? There is no point in caring, they are never ending, along with the bullets. You completely forget that Neo is actually someone else in the movie as you have to endure 2 women going around trying to blow up another machine. I actually rooted for the death of her just so they would get her out of the movie.

Merovigian is there for 2 minutes, Monica Belluci has 1 line and they focused too much effort on her great chest than anything worthwhile for her.

Morpheus, Trinity & Sephiroth(sp) don't even have a fight scene. There's a short gun battle they have together.

People complained there was too much action in the last movie. This movie has ZERO fighting, it's all Sentinel nonsense and a boring as heck Neo/Smith battle at the end. But by that point you don't even care, it's so anticlimactic.

The ending was clever and I liked it (the ending, not the movie), but again, I was already at the point of being over it and not caring, that any effect was lost.

Hopefully when the DVD box set is released next year I will able to watch the film without any negative emotion. But that is what this film is all about, getting emotionally involved in the story and characters. Obviously if you didn't care that much about this set of movies you might come out thinking it was "ok" or "boring" but not "hating it". Case in point, my wife, isn't a Matrix fan, but goes to see all the movies with me. She doesn't have anything invested in this movie, so the letdown and nitpickiness isn't there.

To each their own, I just needed to VENT in a big way!!!!!!

I heard there was a trailer for Troy attached to it. Any comments on it? I saw it, (the trailer is, didnt care to see the movie) freaked, screamed, and spazzed when I saw Orlando. I cant wait till May.

If you don't care much about the Matrix, then it's a total waste of your time. But if you are a fan and have seen the first 2 movies, you have to at least finish out the series to make up your own mind. Just don't go in with any expectations.

Dang, The Wachowski Brothers make George Lucas look like a total genius now. Sure the last 2 Star Wars movies weren't the greatest, but at elast they were interesting to watch. Revolutions had nothing in common with the first 2 films of the series.

I remember John Gaeta, the visual effects guru for the Matrix ripping Lucas and ILM for talking about how much digital and CG they used in the SW films and how it made a film sterile and fake(which I agree). Geesh, this guy should talk after the last 2 movies he did. They couldn't even make the Burly Brawl scene in Reloaded look haflway believable.

Sounds like he contradicts himself.

Thanks Kevin.

Everyone's got an opinion. There's a joke in their but I won't say it. But as a Matrix fan, I must see it, regardless of what the critics say. The first 2 movies kept me entertained, and going by that I'd say the 3rd will too.

So I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I totally agree. What the heck happened to Neo and Smith? They don't explain that either. And not to mention the most interesting characters, IMO, the Twins were nowhere to be found!!!!!!

I understand the ending and it was clever and good, but I was soo ed off at that point I didn't really care anymore.

Apparently the Twins died in the last film, even though they were seen as Ghosts when flying in the air above the explosion. Merovigian wasn't in the movie enough to explain it or comment on it.

And why the heck did he keep Persophone around after she messed with him? (maybe based on the clevage shot in the movie I guess)

I don't need everything explained, but I need SOME answers!

After the first movie came out and they started the sequels I think the story got lossed in all the commotion of doing big-never before seen things....Reloaded was not as good as the first...and lacked a story (as I've said many times)...but then the whole idea the brothers had of making a small side story with the video game which had some presense in the final movie....was a mistake....

I have to disagree with you though kevin....the movie was ok...not as good at the first....but it was good....then again I wonder if thats becuase I went in to see the movie with low expectations because I really didn't enjoy the second like I enjoyed the first.....

After seeing this movie I wonder if we will ever see prequels..or anymore sequels...they left it wide open....

The third movie shouldn't be missed...some may like it others won't...I think that all depends on how you liked the second movie....overall I think the brothers did a great job story wise when you look at the whole trilogy as one story....

i saw it for a second time last night...

..and I still don't like it.. but I can appreciate it. It did what it needed to do. It ended the trilogy. Granted, not every question was answered, and some new ones came up... but I'm sure even though no sequels will come, another Animatrix could and that would answer it.

From the bad press I have been hearing about this movie (and my lack of respect for the second one in comparison for the first), I asked my fiance to tell me what all happens and frankly I have to agree with her. From my understanding of it the entire movie is a cop-out. I am still going to go see, eventually, but with this long weekend coming up Matrix Revolution has been downgraded from First See to Fourth, if I have the money.

I'm seeing Brother Bear this weekend instead.

One of the most annoying things about the movie, besides it being a total snoozefest, is that the ONLY action in the movie (Sentinel scene) is all CG and a total borefest, that does nothing to progress the story.

The final fight scene was boring, murked in dark colors, to hide as much CG as possible, and didn't "suck you in" or make you really care what the heck happened.

Also, WHY was so much time focused on minor worhtless characters, like Link's wife and that bald chick running around trying to blow things up. The Kid who Neo saved running around and the 8 million other useless droans on headsets barknig orders or yelling about something.

Can we give Morpheus something to do? Does Trinity serve ANY purpose in this movie, and does her demise mean anything? NO. If this trilogy is about Neo, why is he in LESS than HALF the movie? He took a backseat in Reloaded, in this movie he's even more useless.

And any of the emotional drama scenes were laughable at best. They didn't work in Reloaded and they fell even flatter in this movie

IMHO - I was OK with things until the end. It was a conclusion that didn't really conclude anything.

The effects were great, if not stolen from just about every other sci-fi movie. The story just kind of petered out, which was disappointing, and the dialog just got to be annoying after a while. If I have to hear the word 'choice' again any time soon....

As a Matrix fan, it was worth seeing, and being the glutton for punishment I am, I'll probably get the DVD when it comes out, but I have to say I left the theater last night thinking "I invested 6+ hours for that?"

Hopefully, Return of The King won't disappoint as much....
