Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge was presented a Thea award from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) for outstanding achievement in the Themed Hotel category. The presentation came at the association’s annual award ceremony (September 28) at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California.

The Thea Awards were created to recognize and celebrate excellence in the themed entertainment. The TEA is an international alliance created by and for professionals in themed entertainment, recreation and leisure industries around the globe.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, featuring 1,293 rooms and suites, is the newest deluxe resort at 47-square-mile Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Most of the hotel’s guestrooms overlook a 33-acre savannah that offers 24-hour viewing opportunities of more than 200 mammals and birds. Three restaurants tempt the taste buds of resort guests, while more than 200 pieces of museum-quality art placed throughout the resort educate guests about African culture and heritage.

Disney Imagineers visited more than 20 African lodges to bring authentic flavor and detail to the resort.

Yeah. I've never stayed there, but took about an hour and 1/2 my last visit to go and check it out. I loved it inside and out, especially seeing all the giraffes and other animals running around.

I’m sorry but am I the only one that thinks the Animal Kingdom Lodge Stinks.

First- you pay way too much for a room.
Second- the rooms are smaller than Moderate resorts.
Third- the resort is dark as can be.
Fourth- the balconies are small as can be
Fifth- the resort looks cheap from the outside. – Guys are we in a Deluxe resort or Moderate?
Sixths- the food court down stars near the pool also looks cheap.
Seventh- I do not feel like I worth a lot when I walk through the doors.
Eight- the pool looks like something that out of a savanna. The slide stinks. The Coronado Slide is way much better
Ninth- I’m sorry but I just don’t like it.
Tenth- I know Eisner went cheap on this resort!

Heck I would rather stay at a value than the AKL

Wow you think it's cheap to run this resort. Different Strokes for different folks, but I highly doubt this is a penny pinching resorts, those animals must be quite expensive to look after.

Compare the AKL to the Grand Floridian
Wilderness Lodge
Yacht and Beach Club

These were all resorts build when Disney was coming into good times (read Eisner’s Bio)

They are all first class resorts!!!

Now it seems that Eisner and his wonderful board cares more about money than living up to the Disney name.

I know it not cheap to run the resort- but first make it great - it's Deluxe- people pay hundreds of hundred of dollars for a room - make it great- don't let the customer feel like he has been shrewd.

Well.. heheh I got a bargain cause the Caribbean was closed, I know normally it is a lot higher than the rates I got, so OK some, of course I will find out in a few days, so I should wait and see what I think first in person.

I did not stay their – I spent a day their in my aunts room – she stayed their with her kids and her husband.

We stayed at the Coronado but don’t judge me yet
First I been their countless times looking around the resort and eating their.
Second seeing how small here room was compared to my own room at the Coronado.

I felt bad. My aunt swore that she would only stay at a Vacation Club resort again.

One last thing – I paid 99 dollars a night
She paid 220 per night

I got my moneys worth!
She did not!

(Ps. Thanks for the debate- I love to debate)

P.P.S.
spider-man don't take anything I said to heart- enjoy the resort- make the decision for your own and don't remember what I said-
Enjoy

Ok, I'll debate ya' :D I love the AKL. Just a friendly debate, not interested in starting a flamming war here.

First- you pay way too much for a room.

Not if you use discounts. I've seen savana rooms for less than $140 a night, sometime in the $120-$130 range.

Second- the rooms are smaller than Moderate resorts.

I didn't think they were small. They have huge beds in them, but I have not problem with the size. Each there own.

Third- the resort is dark as can be.

Not sure how to debate that one. Turn on th light? :animwink: The decore is mostly dark woods, and the only natural light in the lobby is a few windows and the big glass wall by the main savanna, so on a rainny day, I guess it could be. But then again, this is what was intended. They modeled the look and feel off of real African type lodges. Maybe they are darker than say...the all white GF lobby.

Fourth- the balconies are small as can be

They were fine for me and my wife. Two seats, a table for our drinks, and live animals to watch.

Fifth- the resort looks cheap from the outside. – Guys are we in a Deluxe resort or Moderate?

Your opinion. I love the look.

Sixths- the food court down stars near the pool also looks cheap.

Hey, most of all the food courts at all the resorts look like that. I eat in Boma most of the time anyways.

Seventh- I do not feel like I worth a lot when I walk through the doors.

Not sure what you mean by this sentence, can you rephrase it please.

Eight- the pool looks like something that out of a savanna. The slide stinks. The Coronado Slide is way much better

I think the pool looks nice, but I've never used it, or the one at Coronado, so I have no really input either way.

Ninth- I’m sorry but I just don’t like it.

Well, I'm sorry but I do like it. :D

Tenth- I know Eisner went cheap on this resort!

I doubt that one.

I've got a question for you though. Have you ben over to WL? Do you like it? They are very similar. I personally like the decore better at AKL over WL, but they had the same achritect, so there are alot of similaries to the two.

I've never stayed at Coronado. I was going to last year, but when I learned about AKL, I switched the reservations, and I do not regret it. I've visited Coronado, an it ok, but it felt way to spread out to me, just my opinion.

Everyones got there favorites, your seems to be Coronado, mine AKL.

AKL has a welth of things beyond a room and pool. The artwork, the african people that work there, the little extras like storytelling, cooking classes, tours, not to mension the reason everyone stays there...the animals.

We find ourselves spending much more time in the resort than we ever have in the other resorts I've stayed at. It's almost a mini attraction to itself.

Just my $.02

JCRB response: Did you mention that is the Florida Discount- usually it a whole lot higher.

====================================
JCRB response: Are the beds not full size?
Most moderate resort seem to have bigger space

====================================
JCRB response: Why do we have to talk about Black Africa like that – Why cant their be light.
“Let their be light”
WL is a whole lot lighter and it sort of similar.

Remember this is a family resort.

Your opinion. I love the look.

====================================
JCRB response: Yeah I know it my opinion but look at the outside. Outside of the left part of the building looks like a 4 story moderate resort

Hey, most of all the food courts at all the resorts look like that. I eat in Boma most of the time anyways.

JCRB response: Yeah but why can’t it be nice looking and themed like Roaring Forks?

====================================
JCRB response: When you go to the Deluxe sometimes you feel like your worth something. That maybe your better – Maybe like a star or something else. Heck that what I felt like when I first went to the Yacht club in 94

====================================

JCRB response: It ok. I just thought it would be better maybe like “Storm Along Bay”

Well, I'm sorry but I do like it.

====================================
JCRB response: I have stayed at the WL many of time. I stayed their five days after it open. WoW. The first time I went their I had an awesome experience. It was great! So beautiful. Some much theme. I want to go into the AKL and have the same experience. I just don’t know why. I thought about and just did not like what I saw.

I know Disney could have done better!
Heck remember they built the AKL when the company was going finically south.

====================================

====================================
JCRB response: No Coronado is not my favorite- That my favorite Moderate resort.
Wilderness Lodge and it Villas , Yacht & Beach Club and it Villas, Vero Beach and Hilton Head are my favorite resorts.

====================================

AKL has a welth of things beyond a room and pool. The artwork, the african people that work there, the little extras like storytelling, cooking classes, tours, not to mension the reason everyone stays there...the animals.

====================================
JCRB response: Yeah but do you know that the savanna area is not the same as the Animal Kingdom Park. It is 14 acres – that Disney takes the Animals from the other park and puts them in this area.

Your paying to see animals. I rather go to Metro Zoo in Miami.

====================================
We find ourselves spending much more time in the resort than we ever have in the other resorts I've stayed at. It's almost a mini attraction to itself.

====================================
JCRB response: Well that great- if you find a resort that does that – then by all means stay their. If that what makes you happy don’t listen to an A whole like me.

Just my $.02

We stayed at the AKL in March and we loved it. It is a very unique resort, I also stayed at the Cornado Resort a year ago, and in my opinion, there is no comparison, yes the corando is nice, but it is NO where on the same level as the AKL. I think you really need to stay there to appreicate all of it. The staff treat you much better there than any value or moderate resort, I would love to go back, tho i think i may try WL next

No- the discount code we used last week could have been applied to the AKL for as low as $119. We live in Illinois.

The code we used was for $130 a night and we live in New York state, so the discounts are not just for Florida residents.
As far as the rooms being smaller than the moderate rooms, well that's just not true. There is no way two queen sized beds would fit in a moderate room, two doubles barely fit.
