(Idea) Battleship Interactive 4D Attraction

This is more of an imagineering idea; any feedback is appreciated.

First off, when I heard Universal was making a film based off of Battleship, I thought it was some sort of bad joke. Battleship?? The game I used to play when I was 7...being made into a sci-fi adventure film?? Yeah, I was pretty underwhelmed at the thought.

Then I saw the theatrical trailer... Needless to say, this thing looks amazing. Sorta a mix between Transformers, Terminator, Independence Day, and Tron all rolled into one film. I'm sure the 3D/Imax effects will be superb.

Then I started thinking: If this film is a success for Uni at the box-office, this could make for one stellar attraction at the theme parks. Here's a thought:

The premise of the film is basically good guys and bad guys firing at each other (very much like the game), trying to destroy one another, etc. What if Uni made an interactive attraction, with elements of Spider-Man, T2, and MIB all thrown in? Picture this:
-Guests entering the attraction are divided into two teams.
-Teams are split up on two sides of the soundstage/building which houses the attraction, with a giant 3D screen in the middle, separating the two teams.
-Once seated, guests put on their 3D glasses, and each seat comes equipped with a firing joystick (think Mission: Space at Epcot, but instead of being cramped up in a small area with one small screen for each passenger, you are sitting in a large theater such as T2). And unlike T2, there are actually two sides, as the other team is facing the screen on the opposite side of the building.
-When the show starts, you have to fire at targets which will impact the other team. If you are hit, your seat shakes, rocks, etc. There are plenty of surround sound speakers to really make you feel part of the show. Very much like MIB, you earn points for your team every time you fire & hit something which impacts the other team. There will be no shortage of lighting and smoke effects as well.

Basically, you're part of a dramatic fight from the film, as the screen is showing scenes of battle, making it appear as if you're in the movie itself. At the end, the team with the highest score is declared winner, and players that contributed the most to the high score are acknowledged, etc, using actors on screen from the film.

What do you think? And where would something like this fit at the Fla or CA studios?

While it might make an interesting attraction, I seriously doubt this movie is going to do well. I've heard nothing but negative comments from people in regards to this movie, and I personally see it tanking. It's up against the Avengers, soon against Men in Black 3, and so on...it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Your ideas did sound interesting for an attraction though.

Yeah, that's the problem if it ends up being a flop. It doesn't even open here until next Fri. For better or worse, I'm gonna give it a try.

Another idea to add for the attraction: Have the seats labeled/numbered in a grid-like fashion: B4, C7, D9, etc. Opponents on the other side can choose coordinates to shoot toward, and the final player remaining wins.

It made big bank overseas - it's been out internationally for a couple weeks, incidentally. Problem is, the movie reportedly cost $200 mil to make - not including advertising yadda yadda. If you ask me, it'll barely break even. Snow White & The Huntsman is Universal's blockbuster to watch... I think that has a potential to be a real hit (though it all depends on the momentum of the surrounding movies).

I actually really like the idea, though it may be hard to execute in terms of the total guest interaction and perhaps capacity. With some tweaking it could work - but unfortunately, much like the Land of the Lost river raft ride that never was, I think an attraction based on this film is dead in the water.

Capacity would be an issue, especially on slower days when not every seat would have a participant. Though it could be programmed similar to Mission: Space where the "autopilot" takes over in the event a seat doesn't have a player.

And yes, Snow White & The Huntsman looks great. It reminds me somewhat of the twisted, darker version starring Sigourney Weaver (Snow White: A Tale Of Terror).

I also think this movie is gonna flop, but I LOVE your idea for an attraction! For one thing it's not just another "dark ride" that we've all seen a million times, and it wouldn't need a large footprint- just the theater and queue. Plus it sounds like a lot of FUN! Here's hoping!:sohappy:
