R.I.P Thomas Kinkade!

Oh what a shame. My mom was a big fan. Gosh, he was young. She has some of his pieces...just smaller one's and some older postcards. I'm guessing his work just jumped in value. Really wish I would have gotten that Peter Pan print I had been eyeing - and the Snow White cottage one.

Very Sad News.

Was only blogging the other day about Disney collectables and Lulabell1972 has a few of his prints,I even went onto his site to check them out.

I moved this here because this is a grey area. He wasn't a WDW employee, nor does this affect the park per se, but he did have many paintings of Disney themes for sale at the parks, so the thread really didn't belong in Chit Chat, either.

His work was so mass produced it never had any resale value and likely never will.

Sad he died so young but I could never get past his disturbing personal life.

I hadn't heard or read anything about his personal life, so I went to the Wiki article and found this:

The Los Angeles Times has reported that some of Kinkade's former colleagues, employees, and even collectors of his work say that he has a long history of cursing and heckling other artists and performers...mentioned his proclivity for ritual territory marking through urination, once relieving himself on a Winnie the Pooh figure at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim while saying "This one’s for you, Walt."[27][28]

Yeah, there's more stories where that came from. He also scammed the owners of his "art galleries" out of millions of dollars, among other things.

Yes, his private (or not so private) life was a little...um...distasteful :lookaroun

When I told my BF that he died his first response was "Did someone kill him?" But, as you said, still sad that he died so young.

I asked my mom if she still had anything by him and she doesn't - I think she yard saled it all quite a few years back but she said that the wallpaper border in the spare room is a Thomas Kinkade print - I told her she can never get rid of it now.

I was never a fan of his art or his personality, but his death at such a young age is sad nevertheless.

I grew up in northern California near Kinkade's hometown. From 2002 to 2006 I worked in a frame shop that was two doors down from one of his signature galleries. I never really cared for his style, and I grew to detest it after framing so many of his prints and canvas transfers. His work kept me busy, though, and I think it's very sad that he died so young.

If you read up on him he was actually not a good person at all.

and that's ignoring his bland paintings that he tries to pass off as "art"

sucks that he died pretty young, though.

DH and I enjoy the Disney series. He ironically just had the one latest released shipped to our home today.

Sad that he died at 54 and even sadder that he did not seem to be a stand up person. I did not know of his "antics" only that we enjoyed having a few pieces of Disney in our home.
