WDW trip without MK?

We have our annual 5-night trip to WDW coming up between Christmas and New Years (crazy, I know), and we did our usual inventory of family interests to see how we should arrange our time. Our results:

- 1 day in Epcot to eat at the San Angel Inn
- 1 day in DHS to try and get a few rounds on the new Star Tours, as well as the Osbourne Family Lights
- 1 day at SeaWorld to check out Manta and the park's copious holiday offerings (seriously, no place in Orlando gets decked out like SeaWorld)
- and at least 1 day off... so we have a day off. ;)

The result is that we're looking at a trip to WDW without going into the MK. Obviously, this seems bordering on blasphemous, but after going there every year, it seems like it's not worth taking an entire day out of our schedule when we have priorities elsewhere. I guess I'm wondering just how bad this is going to hurt, though.

Anyone else ever tried this, or are we just crazy? :ROFLOL:

God bless the "Ignore" button.
If you can go frequently enough, more power to you. My personal concern is that it wouldn't even feel like I went to WDW without visiting each of the parks.

Yea thats a bit blasphemous! mk IS disney, I can skip all the other parks, but I atleast need to see mk once if I am doing a trip like that for a couple of days. None of the other parks can compare to the feeling I get at mk. You feel special just for being there, walking down mainstreet.

I love it, and couldnt do it. MK is the only park I can spend a full day in and not get tired of it.

I have to agree that for us, personally, it just wouldn't feel like a complete trip without multiple visits to MK. We can skip AK or HS, but never MK or Epcot. But I also feel that everyone needs to plan their vacation as they see fit. My priorities may not work for everyone. As long as you are having fun and you come home happy with your vacation, that is all that really matters. Have a great trip.

I did it once -- was spending my vacation on the Gulf Coast but took a couple days in Orlando. Went to Seaworld one day, and Animal Kingdom the other day. This was a few years after AK opened and I hadn't been there yet.

I can't really imagine a WDW-focused trip without a Magic Kingdom trip. But then again, if there's nothing new that you want to see and your time is limited, prioritize how you wish...

Going to WDW and skipping MK....I really can't imagine that. Kill the day off and go to MK, you can relax anytime!

Now Idk you or anything about you but why do you need a day off on a 5 day trip? WDW is not the same without a trip to MK IMO.

If you go frequently enough there is no issue with skipping MK. IMHO considering all the construction and the inevitable phased closures of MK during the week you will be there, skipping MK is completely rational.

Never thought of that....

Very Valid point

Did it once as well (as the earlier poster); had three days (at the World), after a Disney Cruise and ended up at the three other parks. (We go often enough that it wasn't that big of a deal for us). Do what feels right (to you).

In 1993 I was 13 and we went to Florida as a family. It was the only time I have been down there and never hit a Disney park. I mean not just MK, but none of them. We did Universal Studios for the first time and maybe Busch Gardens. But I do remember going to Mystery Fun House. Anyone remember that place? I loved it, still wish they hadn't closed it down.

I guess my folks figured we had been to MK in 1991 and wanted to try something new. Epcot wouldn't have suited me at that age but I don't know why we never went to DHS. Oh well.

But either way, if you are asking me, I wouldn't skip MK for a trip. That is the flagship park.

Coming from England we're in Orlando for a minimum of 2 weeks at a time (nearly always 3) and so it's easy to see all the parks. We would never not visit the MK, if we had to skip one park it would probably be the AK. It's not that we don't enjoy it but it's probably the least 'magical' of the lot.

Totally agree. On our next trip, we are skipping MK until the construction is over. We will still, however, watch the fireworks from the beach at the poly. Just need to take a break from those crowds and the crazy transportation issues there for awhile.

Mystery Fun House was the best. Great memories!

Sea World is always a good idea.

I'm from Europe, so I usually spend two weeks in Florida. I can not imaganie not going to the MK. If I were a more regular visitor, easily though.

I would never take a day off on a four day trip. I'd hit a park, anyone. Disney is relaxation for me, apart from sleeping in. Which can still be combined with a day in the parks. Sleep late, have a little swim, go to a park in the afternoon.
