Our family will be in Disney in Sept. We have the free dinning, and I am trying to get the most out of it. I have been looking at all of the menues trying to find places where we would all like. In everyones opions where would be the best places. We are going to the castle for lunch, that is a given. This is just a list of where looks good. Chef Mickeys, 1900 Park Fare, Boma for breakfast, Coral Reef, Ohana,Tony's Town Square, San Angle Inn. Our kids are 4 years old and 14 months old.

I'm not particularly fond of Tony's and Coral Reef many people have had bad experiences at, including me. In Epcot I'd recommend Le Cellier or Chef de France, both are excellent. In MK, my favorite place for dinner is Crystal Palace and many others like Liberty Tree Tavern (I just don't care for the food selection, but the food is good).

Liberty Tree Tavern at the MK is our favorite! Lunch is great but we tried dinner last year and loved the all you can eat, bring it to your table and visit with the characters!

We have also made a custom of eating dinner at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary the first night of our stay! We love the desert bar as well as the food and characters!

We will be trying Le Cellier this year and Tony's as well as those listed above! Can't wait!

I had a very good experience at the coral reef we had a great table up against the tank and the food was good.
The Concorse steakhouse was very nice and the food was great. My daughter(4) loves when the monorails come through the restaurant.
And Moma melroses at MGM was good if you like Italian food.

It Depends

on if want great food or character dining because the character dining is just average on all of them. I would avoid Coral Reef and Akershus, the food is terrible at both places. Jiko, Narcoossee's and Victoria and Albert's are fantastic. The Prime Rib at 1900 park is better then Cinderella's RT but not great.

Jiko and Narcoosee's are two points each on the dining plan. And V&A's isn't on the dining plan and since there is no children's menu, unless you want to pay $95 per child, I don't think they'll be going there. This is V&A's way of keeping kids out of the restaurant.

As someone else suggested, Le Cellier and Les Chefs De France are my favorite restaurants and they're great on the dining plan because you really get your money's worth! Restaurant Marakesh at Morocco is pretty good and great choice for Cinderella's Royal Table, def. a must!

For great character dining: Top Kudos goes to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner....the character interaction was just fantastic, and the food was very good. We also really enjoyed Garden Grill in The Land.....again good character visits and the restaurant revolves. At both of the places the food is brought to you so easy with little ones and a good way to rest your feet. At Crystal Palace, the kids love the Pooh characters.

Another place is Whispering Canyon Cafe in Wilderness Lodge. A really fun (but loud) place for families, they have all you can eat skillets plus you can order off a menu. My boys loved it (ages 6 and 9).

Have a great trip!!

Introduce yourself and the kids to something you might not have had, or cannot come across as easly/often - try Marrakesh at the Morocco pavilion in Epcot.

If you care about points then V&A is not the place for you. But some people like me don't care about points:lol: If you bring children to V&A make sure they don't act up or run around or you will get kicked out. I enjoyed CRT but my kid liked CP the best because of Eeyore,Pooh,Tigger and Piglet

My favorites and ones that I try to frequent every time I visit WDW are:

Biergarten in the Germany Pavilion (although I do not know if that is on your meal plan). My Girlfriend is of full German ancestry and she can vouch the food is pretty good for German faire. I like the atmosphere, they have a German band playing (at certain times) and bell ringers and other lil entertainers on stage. A good ole time, I feel.

Cosmic Ray's Starlite Cafe - I know, I know... counter-service. But after you get out of the hustle and bustle of getting your chow (which, of course, is not half bad), you can take a seat on the deck overlooking the WDW hub and Cinderella Castle. This is a great lunchtime spot, nothing like relaxing, checking out the park map, and looking out over the ponds and landscaping, with Cinderella Castle looming overhead.

I have been to Boma once. Although I was timid at first, being a lover of all things Americanized *grins*, I thoroughly enjoyed the different flavors of the Boma experience. Be prepared to sample a lot of different flavors, spices, and textures. Fun experience, I would recommend it, but just be ready for something a lil different then generic American faire we get used to.

You'll get as many different opinions on restaurants as there are posters, but here are our favorites:

MGM
Sci Fi Dine In (Campy fun)
Prime Time Cafe (more campy fun)
Hollywood and Vine (buffet of very good food)

AK
Tusker House (counter service that is as good as table service)

Epcot
Marrakesh (interesting tasty food)
Biergarten (Oompah fun and good buffet)
Akershus (we actually liked their food)
Never been to LeCellier but that is definitely on my list for next time
Coral Reef we were not thrilled with but others do like it
Rose and Crown was too crowded and not thrilled with the food
St Angel Inn we thought was overpriced and not that good (although the atmosphere is great)

Resorts
Chef Mickey's would be a must if I had little kids - Good buffet of All American food plus a lot of characters and the monorail
We LOVE Boma
'Ohana is fun and good
Whispering Canyon Cafe has good barbecue and is a lot of fun

Of course a meal in the castle is the classic Disney experience

Some folks like to stick with what they know they like, but we always try to eat things we can't get back home. Every restaurant will have some "safe, normal" choices, so I'd mix it up at least for the atmosphere. And I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. Even the things we said weren't great are stil way better than most restaurants.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
In no particular order,

Bomas
O'Hanahs
SciFi Drive In
Whispering Canyon
Biergarten
San Angel
California Grill
Trails End
House of Blues
Tepanyaki Dinning Room
Spoodles

Jurys out -

Tonys Town Square - put off by low flying birds
Crystal Palace - menu a bit boring

I wouldnt go back to -

Brown Derby - terrible service
Mama Melroses - everything was poor
Wolfgang Pucks - poor service attitude sucked
Cinderellas Royal table - over priced menu poor
Planet Hollywood - not Hard Rock standard

Im trying this trip -

Jikos
Le Cellier
China
Hollywood n Vine (never had dinner)

In our two trips to WDW, we've eaten at:

Flying Fish, Spoodles, Microbrewery (I forget the name), and ESPNZone at Boardwalk Inn

Le Cellier and Japanese Sushi lounge at Epcot

Brown Derby and Sci-Fi at MGM

Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge

We LOVED Flying Fish, but it will cost two meal credits on the meal plan. That said, a good meal there would easily cost you $50 per person, so it's still worth using two credits. My wife and I will be while we're there for a week over Thanksgiving.

Spoodles is also good, but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to eat there. We're staying at the Boardwalk, so we're definitely planning on going back. They have a variety of good appetizers or small plates that we ordered almost like a tapas restaurant, but they also have good regular entrees. It's also a large room, which means it's easier to get in on short notice.

I found the microbrewery on the boardwalk to be just OK. The food was pretty much your typical pub fare and the microbrews actually weren't that great in my opinion, and I do love microbrews.

ESPNZone is what you would expect - no more, no less. I'm kind of a sports nut so we stopped in there a few times after the parks closed to catch the end of that night's Red Sox game.

Le Cellier is a nice steakhouse with food that could be considered a little pricey depending on your budget, but the food is worth the price, unlike some restaurants. It's a good pre-Illuminations spot. Since you're on the plan it's a good spot to get "value" out of the plan, since a good dinner would likely run you $35-$45.

We found the sushi lounge in Japan to be a little limited in its selection, and wouldn't really recommend it for sushi.

Brown Derby is good. We've gotten the Fantasmic Dinner package the past two times we've gone, but decided against it this time, more for variety's sake than anything against the restaurant. I believe you can get that package on the plan, and it normally costs around $35-$40. We had no complaints about the service there. It was our first anniversary, and my wife was able to call ahead and get them to make a replica of our wedding cake top, since we obviously couldn't cart it down for the trip, (it probably tasted a little fresher too).

Sci-Fi is a good sit down lunch at MGM, more for the atmosphere than the food really. We usually go for lunch and sit in a car and order burgers and milkshakes and feel like we're in the '50's.

Whispering Canyon is probably great for families with kids, but likely an annoyance to any adults without kids. When we were there they had a couple of annoying rituals, like not stocking every table with ketchup, so that if you needed it you were supposed to just yell out "Ketchup!" and another table was supposed to bring theirs over to you. They did some other kid friendly interaction with the diners, which I'm sure was great fun for kids, but not for someone just looking for some food.
